(Scene 1, blast from the past -13-year-old boy lying down on the tiled ground, bruised being beaten up to a pulp by an older boy named Jandro being accompanied by who seems to be his friend, Kim)

Boy: Wait, please! I’m sorry!
Jandro: *kicks him in the leg* You? Sorry? For what? For not being able to pass my project on the deadline? *kicks him in the arm*
Boy: *Whimpers in pain* I’m sorry... I’ll make you another one next quarter!
Jandro: Hm! How insufficient can you be? You useless little rat. *picks him up in his sleeve and punches him in the face, blood gushing out from his mouth* I’ll give you one more chance. Value it.
Kim: Jandro, you’re too harsh. Please stop. Help him up, C’mon.
Jandro: Shut up, Kim! Let’s leave this useless dog here. We’d be lucky enough if he gets caught by the guards after curfew.

(Scene 2, Jandro walks out with his friend, but the boy was able to gather a little more strength to stand up and attempts to push Jandro, but Kim notices him and screamed, and Jandro turned around and pushed the boy instead. It was too hard, and he fell on his feat, and his head hit the wall, which caused an impact)
Kim: Jandro!
Jandro: *speechless* I... Is he okay?
(dark, sticky blood oozes out from behind the head of the boy)
Kim: *whispers* we just killed... We just killed him...
Jandro: I... I...

(Scene 3, Mayang, sister of the boy, appears, calling out for him)
Mayang: Dong, doooong-AHHHHHH! *screams in terror after seeing the sight of her brother*
Mayang: Dong? Dong? Please... Who... Who - *turns around and looks at Jandro and Kim*
Kim: We didn’t kill him... we accidentally pushed him too hard!
Mayang: This is both your fault! You killed my brother! Even my mother knew about you two bullying our Dong! You animals, you bastards!
(Mayang proceeds to run to her brother’s corpse and caresses him, blood sticking on her uniform)

Film Analysis of Before Sunset

...Name Course Professor Date “Time is a Lie” – The Essence of Before Sunset Before Sunset is a spectacular film that tries very hard to restore one’s faith in lost connections. The movie has many interesting aspects to it. Quite a few interesting conversations are struck up by Jesse and Celine. But one aspect of the movie that really struck a chord was the cinematic realism in it. Linklater, the director, takes his time with the shots, letting the camera roll. “Time is fleeting”, as a caveat, has never been better portrayed. The movie plays with time at every turn, and the dialogue-heavy structure gives the character space to unfold. Jesse is trying to buy more and more time with Celine. He first takes her to a coffee shop, then a walk through the Parisian streets, followed by a boat ride down the river and finally some more time in the car ride and her apartment. Though the background changes continuously, the movie is essentially an 80 minute dialogue between the two characters. The fact that Linklater has not fast forwarded time in any of the scenes gives the movie a strong sense of realism. Nothing has been hurried. The characters take their own time to revive their lost connection. Throughout the movie, Linklater has played with time as a concept. As Jesse puts it during his book signing, “Inside every moment is another moment happening simultaneously” (Greco). The one exception to the on-screen realism takes place when Jesse is talking to reporters at the...

Zagat's Dilemma

...To Pay or Not To Pay: Zagat’s Dilemma Source: Laudon, KC & Laudon, JP 2013, Essentials of Management Information Systems, 10th Edition, Prentice Hall, New Jersey Founded by Tim and Nina Zagat, the Zagat Survey has collected and published ratings of restaurants by diners since 1979. Zagat publishes surveys for restaurants, hotels and nightlife in 70 major cities. Today, as more people use their smartphones for information on the go, Zagat is moving its content online and onto the mobile platform. It has been a struggle. Zagat has come a long way from its roots in the early 1980s when the food loving Zagats started compiling lists of their favourite restaurants for personal use and to share with their closest friends. To generate the first survey, the Zagats polled 200 people and increased that number over time. Executives, tourists and New York foodies alike found the list to be indispensable. Spurred by this success, the Zagats decided to publish a book with their survey themselves. The few booksellers that took a risk in stocking the book were rewarded with sales so robust that the Zagat Surveys became best sellers. The pair also published similar lists for other major cities, including Chicago, San Francisco and Washington DC. In addition to print books, Zagat opened a unit that creates custom guides for corporate clients, like the ones at Citibank. For a long time, this business model was sufficient to ensure that Zagat Survey was successful and profitable...

A Contextualization of Nina Revoyr's Southland

...Sunshine and Noir in Historical Los Angeles: A Contextualization of Nina Revoyr’s Southland Nina Revoyr’s novel, Southland, provides a glimpse into the injustice, scandal, and struggle in Los Angeles from the 1940s to the 1990s due to its racial composition. The novel contains a unique cast of characters who, although often times interact with conflict, are forced to live side-by-side one another in their separate attempts to attain the American Dream. Southland takes its readers on a journey through a history full of trials and tribulations, with Los Angeles as its stage; throughout this story, the reader begins to understand that there was much more to this place than what was originally promised by the boosters. Revoyr makes it clear that Los Angeles, or Angeles Mesa to be more precise, during the time of the boosters, was not solely a place where one could find utopia, or sunshine – but also a place that was plagued with dystopia, or noir. Southland proves to be a story that illustrates how ethnic, racial, and gender differences can play a major role in one’s actions, behaviors, and perceptions of others. This novel uncovers the fact that Los Angeles was a socially stratified city, which was full of inhabitants who were governed according to their differences. Whether one was white, black, or Asian during the 1940s-1960s (especially in Angeles Mesa, as relevant to Southland) determined how others perceived and treated them. In a cyclic rotation, most of the time it...

Animals

...A Voice for the Animals It should be against the law to have a license or even to buy an exotic animal to have as a pet. Having exotic animals as pets is an inherent risk to human health and safety. Owning these animals is also a risk for them they need to be able to roam free not caged up like a prisoner. They may seem cute and cuddly but they have a lot of responsibilities, they can turn on you, and expensive to have. Some owners have these animals and neglect them and that’s just an un humane thing to do. When people get these animals they don’t think about their health. Some of these animals carry diseases and people don’t know it till they have it. Experts have studied that at least one in three reptiles’ harbors salmonella and shigella. Salmonella is a bacterium that can kill you it is found in animal feces and contaminated food. People who have animals such as: Reptiles, baby chicks and ducklings, and small rodents such as hamsters are particularly likely to carry Salmonella. Shigella is also a bacterium that can infect the digestive tract and cause a wide range of symptoms. When someone has a monkey and chimpanzee, they can get this virus because it’s contagious. These animals should be in there natural environment instead of someone’s home or backyard. The animals are used to roaming around freely for hour’s even days depending on the animal and type. For example tigers travel about 6-12 miles a day and they hunt at night how can you take their routine...

...you move mountains? Struggling photographer Nina Mosley (Nia Long) and struggling writer Darius Lovehall (Larenz Tate) have a lot in common, but they aren’t exactly prime candidates for a serious affair. The consummate ladies man, Darius’ silky smooth presentation promises more sell than substance. And Nina’s recently jilted heart isn’t looking for anymore of love’s kind of trouble. love jones begins with Nina and her good girlfriend Josie Nichols (Lisa Nicole Carson) packing up what’s left of Nina’s disappointing relationship. Fearful that the scars left from this failed romance may be too deep for her to heal, Josie takes her to a night-time poetry-slam at the Sanctuary, where she encounters Darius for the first time. The Sanctuary is the local haven where poetry is the prime draw, and a favorite night spot for Darius and his friends Savon Garrison (Isaiah Washington), Eddie Coles (Leonard Roberts), Sheila Downes (Bernadette Clark, and Hollywood (Bill Bellamy). “The romance dies between couples,” we overhear Darius telling his friends from his intellectual set, “because they’ve (people) given up on the possibility of it.” In an awkward introduction at the bar, Nina catches Darius off-guard and, uncharacteristically, he fumbles and spills his drink on her. He recovers minutes later when called to the stage to recite one of his poems. He makes the most of the moment by calling his sensuous creation “A Blues for Nina.” Flattered but embarrassed, she informs...

Distinguishing Fantasy from Reality: Comparison Essay Between the Things They Carried and Fight Club

...Don DeLillo’s book, White Noise, tells the story of Jack Gladney and his family. Throughout the book, Jack takes on a professional, fictional persona resembling that of Hitler, being the Chairman of Hitler Studies at the College-on-the-Hill (DeLillo 4). Jack turns his professional persona into this fictional character, something he could transform himself into, as if he was filling a Hitler mold. Jack relies on this Hitler-esque persona to sustain his own personal identity and self-worth, although in his mind, this fake persona is only subsidiary to his own personality. Jack struggles with ascertaining the importance of himself as compared to the importance of his own made-up persona and this notion of fabricated reality becoming more important that actual reality is offered throughout White Noise. While in his role of Chairman of Hitler Studies, he refers to himself as J.A.K. Gladney and dresses in sweeping, dramatic robes while teaching. Jack also takes into consideration the advice of the chancellor, “He wanted me to “grow out” into Hitler. He himself was tall, paunchy, ruddy, jowly, big-footed and dull. A formidable combination. I had the advantages of substantial height, big hands, big feet, but badly needed bulk” (DeLillo 16). This impression of J.A.K. Gladney differed greatly from Jack’s own character, and the fact that he does not know German only adds to the plasticity of his fabricated self. The idea of false reality overtaking actual reality is shown by Jack and...
