...North Carolina Climate Change The intensity of the debate about environmental and economic impacts of global climate change has increased over the past few years. Many state governments are encouraged to develop policies that address climate-related issues. Most of the policies are focusing on the mitigation and reduction of greenhouse gases through state-level climate action plans. “In North Carolina, the “clean smokestacks” legislation passed in 2002 states that a commission is to be established to study policy options for reducing carbon dioxide emissions. In 2005, the General Assembly passed the North Carolina Global Warming Act. This act established a Global Warming Commission that evaluates potential impacts on the state from rising temperatures, creates goals on reducing global warming pollutant, and prepares the economy to enhance economic markets associated with global warming” (“Cordato”). After passing this act, North Carolina became the first state in the Southeast to meaningfully step forward in the fight against global warming. North Carolina is one of the most vulnerable states to the impacts of global warming, but it can position itself to take advantage of opportunities that come along from the development of new technologies. The decisions we make today can affect the impacts of global warming on North Carolina, the opportunities for North Carolina to address the issues on global warming, and the recommendations that are established to fight against...

...The lost colony was a failed attempt from Queen Elizabeth to settle on Roanoke Island, which is located in present day North Carolina. There were many problems with the settlers, they aren’t use to living like that and the colonists were not very clever. The colonists also antagonised the Indians by kidnapping them and holding them hostage. The colony was low on supplies, so John White sailed back to England for supplies. He thought it would take 3 months, but it took 3 years. When John White came back, the colonists were gone and the word, “Croatoan” was carved into a fence and the word, “CRO” was carved into a tree. The lost colony has been a mystery for a long time. Everything was neatly packed up and taken with the colonists. It even puzzles...

...LITERATURE REVIEW The concept of food security refers to a situation in which there is access to adequate and nutritionally quality food through socially acceptable means. The concept of food security comprises of four different domains: qualitative, quantitative, psychological and social. The quantitative aspect refers to the lack of adequate food for the households. The situation leads to a person or household having to eat less than what they would prefer to consume (Taylor and Francis, 2015). The qualitative aspect of food security entails access to food of preferred nutritional value depending on the age or health requirements. The Psychological domain of food security denotes the anxiety and worry that people tend to exhibit when the food situation in the country is unpredictable. Its other facet is the concern over the absence of the preferred quality of food (Edward et al., 2013). The social aspect entails the socially approved ways people use to access for their consumption. These could include buying on credit, borrowing or even some socially unacceptable means such as stealing. Several types of researches done on the issue of food security consider it from the mothers’ perspectives. It is in conformity with their traditional roles of engaging in acquisition and management of household food reserves. The tool used in the determination of food security is the U.S Household Food Security Survey Module, HFSSM. The toll was devised in 1997. The model investigates both...

...Teacher Salaries in North Carolina Teacher salaries are swiftly losing ground in North Carolina. There are single teachers who have to live with their parents because they do not make enough to support themselves. The state legislature passed sweeping changes to public education in order to give more control to local school districts. Many of which affected teachers directly. The General Assembly, which is controlled by Republicans, ended teacher tenure, halted a salary increase to those with a master’s degree, and eliminated a cap on class size. No state has seen a more drastic decrease in teacher salary ranking in the past 10 years. Teacher tenure has been replaced by a merit-based system that rewards long-term contracts to the top 25% of teachers and shorter contracts to the rest. Because of this, teacher morale is down. At this point, teachers are questioning whether they want to teach, especially in North Carolina. They are having a hard time taking care of their families. Right now, there are educators who qualify for government assistance. It used to be that teachers with a master’s degree would get an increase in pay, but not anymore. There has been a halt on these increases. This goes back to merit pay; they have to prove themselves. Teachers are no longer limited to a particular class size. Now there is no cap. So a teacher may have to teach an unlimited number of students in a classroom; it no longer matters the size. Because North Carolina is a right-to-work...

...North Carolina is one of the northern states that has similar practices of the southern states legal systems and have lessened African American. The white mobs, in North Carolina, continue to believe in racism. The white mobs believe they are superior to black people, and fear that the black voters would lead to miscegenation concluding that “black men threatened white southern women” (Roark, 538). So the white mobs practice lynching (executing black men by white mobs) such as hanging them on trees out in public and dragging them on roads. During the 1890s after the African escape from segregation and persecution in the North, the white southerners start the Jim Crow’s systems plus lynching African American men. Jim Crow system is the law...

We also learned about some advantages, disadvantages, the environmental and physical costs of using this energy source. Throughout our paper you’ll see that this source of energy is the most efficient and reliable source for North Carolina. ...experiences during the elementary and secondary years have important implications for their citizenship in a globally interactive world. Some schools of education have acknowledged the urgency for developing culturally competent teachers, while others grapple with ways to fit appropriate programs into their curriculum. University of North Carolina in Greensboro has a study with teachers over the past decade. The goal of this research is to help teachers—especially new or preserves teachers and those who implement multicultural science education because of district mandates or changing classroom demographics—understand the importance of multicultural science education and to provide teachers with a list of resources they can refer to for additional information and activity ideas. East Carolina University’s teacher preparation program at the beginning of 2007 consisted of using eight key questions to guide their inquiry of how ECU’s teacher preparation program relates to multicultural education priorities. The major multicultural teacher education themes found in ECU’s program related them to the current issues of public education in North Carolina. The state is experiencing one of the highest population growth rates in the country, and is facing a severe shortage of teachers over the next decade. The University reflects the high population growth seen in the state....

...Assignment #5 Facts The facts as they are presented to us state that Richard, a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, files a lawsuit against Brad, who lives in Durham, North Carolina in North Carolina state trial court for illegal and felonious assault and battery, as well as being unlawfully confined and bound in an area. These acts caused Richard great physical and emotional suffering, at the hand of Brad. Richard is seeking compensatory and punitive damages against Brad. Brad moves to dismiss the action on the grounds that the complaint was not specific enough. Issue Our issue here is whether or not the complaint fails to state a claim upon which relief can be granted under North Carolina case law. Rules “In reviewing a N.C. R. Civ. P. 12(b)(6) motion, a court must determine whether, as a matter of law, the allegations of the complaint, treated as true, are sufficient to state a claim upon which relief may be granted under some legal theory, whether properly labeled or not. The trial court may grant this motion if there is a want of law to support a claim of the sort made, an absence of facts sufficient to make a good claim, or the disclosure of some fact which will necessarily defeat the claim”. Rule 8 of the General Rules of Pleading, also states that there must be a short and clear statement made in the claim that the party is if fact, entitled to relief. Pursuant to affirmative defense, if Brad introduces evidence found to be credible, regardless if he committed the...

...North Carolina has one of the most interesting histories of the original thirteen colonies. Being one of the first colonies settled, North Carolina has been an important player in the history of the United States. The Waterman’s Song, by David S. Cecelski, educates the reader about the role of slavery in North Carolina, more specifically, in the maritime or coastal region of the state. Cecelski examines the lives of the slaves, as well as, free black men who labored on the water as fishermen and deck hands. The book studies the culture from the colonial period thru the end of the Civil War. The Waterman’s Song offers different views on the treatment of slaves during this period. Cecelski presents a broader, more detailed, view of the African American population living in the maritime region of North Carolina during this time....

The North Carolina department of children and families is called the North Carolina Division of Social Services. The website is http://www2.ncdhhs.gov/. Their mission statement is ”The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with its partners, protects the health and safety of all North Carolinians and provides essential human services. (NC DSS).” This website has a lot of different services. Some deal with giving your child up and getting them adopted. They have Medicare and Medicaid reform links; adult protection, nutrition, disabilities, and homeless services. There are a lot of different programs for people of all ages and different conditions including blind and deaf individuals. They don’t specifically have a service for children who get in trouble a lot or act out a lot, but they have counseling programs. This is a good resource to have. They have numbers and names for you to call, and I’m not sure if you can apply for benefits online. I know you can receive help for problems over the phone. I looked everywhere on this website and found that they don’t have a social media presence. All they have is a bunch of numbers for a variety of different services. In their list of services, they actually have a lot of different numbers for adult and child abuse and neglect. Assistance Programs SNAP There are...

...Tribe Robert W. Dockett SOC/262 October 6, 2015 Veretta Nix Cherokee Indian Tribe The Cherokee Indian Tribe has a long and rich standing in North America. The Cherokee Indians were one of the first non-European ethnic groups to become citizens of the United States. The Cherokee tribes have dealt with attempts to relocate them to less desirable lands in North America along with being in wars such as the French and Indian War, and Cherokee-American Wars. Cherokee tribes were quick to latch on to European and American ideologies and used them to their benefit. The Cherokee Nation has been a large part of the Native American tradition in North America. The Cherokee Indian Tribe has dealt with their fair shares of ups and downs in the United States. It is believed that the Cherokee Indians were originally settled in the Great Lakes region of North America, and then migrated south. They did so knowing that there were other Iroquoian-speaking tribes in the south. Early Cherokee Indians were primarily found in what is now Georgia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina. In the 1830’s the Indian Removal Act forced many Cherokee Indians into Oklahoma and Arkansas. Today the Cherokee Nations headquarters is in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. There are also satellite communities within the Cherokee nation, many of them being in the southern states in North America. This resulted due to the forced relocation of the Cherokee Indians. In the 1800’s many different Indian tribes were forced from the...
