My clinical question is “how is nursing residency program beneficial to new graduate registered nurses? Nursing residency program is a program designed to increase retention and provide essential tools to promote graduate nurse success and productivity. (Welding, 2011). Nurse Residency program gives the nurse who is a novice the learning base and expertise set required to move to clinical nursing practice competence while giving the skills required to meet the mission and objectives of the organization, the program gives nurses the administration abilities to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team. The process of hiring can be concentrated on assessing the attitudes and values of new nurses and how they fit with the organization. The idea of values, attitudes and general behavior patterns are very difficult to change, while skills can be taught. The cost in nurses’ time is the regularly cited hindrance to nurse residency program. the report of new nurses’ inability to ensure patient safety as a result of low job satisfaction is primarily related to heavy workloads, relationships dissatisfaction with interprofessional colleagues, peers, managers, and insufficient time with patients are being reported by new nurses. There is also an expression of disillusionment about scheduling, and the lack of intrinsic and extrinsic workplace rewards by new nurses. (Twibell, Pierre, Johnson, Barton, Davis, Kidd, & Rook, 2012). The newly licensed registered nurses’ turnover is reported as high as 40%–60%, compared to 10% or less turnover with a nurse residency …show more content…

b. Databases used: A thorough review of the literature was made using EBSCOhost, Google Scholar databases, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL). These databases were reviewed to ensure that it contains the appropriate information needed for the research work and they met the search criteria.
c. Refinement decisions made: Goal of the nursing residency program was to increase residents’ comfort with clinical skills, thereby enhancing their critical thinking abilities and communication with the health care team. The employers should reduce the workload of the new nurse residence in other to enable them do a good job.
