Brief Overview This observation took place at an elementary school located in southern central Maryland. The school is set in an urban community, where most children qualify for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program through the government. The observation group is a group of first grade students. Students in this group are approximately six years old to seven years old. They are of African, African-American, or Latino decent. There are 15 females and 6 males within the observation group. This group of students have varying home lives. The home lives range from a typical home to being homeless, to having only one parent, to having no parents, or to having little to no income. Observation Overview The students were escorted outside to recess at eleven-thirty in the morning. The students were walked down the sidewalk toward the equipment. Once their feet touched the grass, they were allowed to run. Students took part in various activities. They played on the different types of equipment, ran around in the field, played football as a group, or socialized with each other near the slides. Key Points I noticed several instances during the observation time that caught my attention. The first noticing I made was while watching a group of male students play football in the...

...Child raising Engelsk 1 1) The first texts is about a very strict Chinese mother of her 18-year-old girl. The essay is written by the mother’s 18-year old daughter because her mother published an essay called “Battel Hymn of the Tiger Mother”. This essay got many negative responses from the readers and the daughter explains her childhood for the readers of “The Wall Street Journal”. In the essay Sofia, the daughter of the Tiger Mother, tells about how her strict mother handled her as a child and “how Chinese parents raise such stereotypically successful kids”. This Chinese mother raised Sophia this way; if Sophia didn’t do her best her mother would say it to her. As an example, Sophia writes in the text that once she gave her mother a birthday card, and how her mother didn’t approve it, because she knew the Sophia hadn’t tried her best. Sophia had a lot of rules example she couldn’t be with her classmates after school, have playdates in her early childhood, watch TV, play computer games or play any other instruments than piano or violin. Sophia didn’t mind, for her it was to have goals in life and she didn’t care what people thought of her strict Tiger Mother. For her it was the perfect child raising. In the second texts, a parenting guru tells that he think that children should be allowed to watch more television and eat pizza, he believes that parent try to hard raising there kids. ...prestigious organizations within American sports today. It is also home of one of the most controversial rules in all of sports, which is known as the “one and done rule.” The one and done rule restricts high school basketball players from entering the NBA Draft straight out of high school (Zegers). According to this policy, anyone who wants to enter the NBA Draft must complete at least one season and school year at the collegiate level or be at least the age of nineteen. This policy created by NBA Commissioner David Stern went into effect for the 2005-2006 season of the NBA (Medcalf). The creation of this rule between the National Basketball Association and the players union caused immediate backlash from many players who all felt that the policy was very unreasonable. The one and done rule should be changed to either go play in college for two years or be able to head straight to the NBA, because coaches have difficulty recruiting players who only want to play one year and it could be bad for players to have to go to school first if they were to suffer any problems that could occur due to their decision. Millions of Americans including myself are huge fans of college and NBA basketball. I love to watch my favorite college basketball players go to the NBA and follow their career of playing professional basketball. Prior to the creation of the one and done rule, the NBA allowed high school basketball players to choose if they wanted to go directly into their league or go to college since...

Mark Emmert, the President of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, states that the current rule in place for one-and-done basketball players is ineffective and insufficient to the business efforts of both the NCAA and the NBA. “They’re not stupid kids. But they’re deluded about what their future holds in basketball” (Emmert 14). The current rule created by the NBA and NBA Players’ Association in the collective bargaining agreement that became effective in the 2006 NBA Draft stated that all players entering the draft are required to be either 19 years old or be one year removed from high school (graduating class). ...my sisters and I went outside to play four square with the neighbors. After they beat me several times, I ran down the street with embarrassment. While running down the scorching hot pavement, I saw my friend Jacob playing whiffle ball outside with his friendly father. I asked him to talk a walk with me. We complained about our typical sixth grade problems. Jacob complained about his xbox breaking, while I complained about school plus girls. I really didn’t have any problems with girls besides wanting them all to myself. I never understood the point of school. I knew I had to get good grades, go to highschool, go to college, get a good job, and make a lot of money. I had to pay attention in class. It was imbedded into my head that soon became a natural instinct. Waking up at 7am to my dad screaming for me to brush my smelly teeth, wash my dirty body, and dress my naked body. Hearing people talk that early angered me. I never liked walking around my fifteenth century school. The walls peeled with gray paint. The dark red and off white tiles made me feel ill. The halls smelled like raunchy old ladies bathing in baby powder. Sitting in a deck for several hours developed into boredom for me. Talking about my hatred for school turned my face more red than an apple. My friend Jacob shockingly said he felt the same way. It was a prison and we were the prisoners of this big scam called ‘school.’ Angrily complaining with hints of screaming, an old lady named Grace down the street yelled...

...to why a teen or child has committed a crime and people seem to want to steer the focus on video games. There are a lot more factors that play into that like bullying, lifestyle, or the environment they live in. Video games play a small part in the development of child behavior. Creators of video games and stores have put age limits on who can buy their products to keep children away from the games that contains drugs, sex, and violence. This method is the most effective way to help prevent minor from seeing adult content at a young age. Companies like Microsoft and Sony have a paternal control system on their consoles that will not let you play certain type of games without a password. Many moves have been made to limit the underage use of adult video games. There is violence everywhere in life there is nothing you can link a school shooting, or rape etc. to a video game. There is not one video game that promotes school shootings or rape. The education system needs to educate the student about what this world is because it is not all sunshine and rainbows. There is ugly and kids need to be taught what’s happening in the world. Most cases of a school shooting is bullying, bombings religion or political, rape is usually someone with a medical problem. Picking up a controller and slicing up some zombies after a long stressful day at school is not going to set you on a killing spree because you died at level 9. There are major parts that...

...The high school has taken out full contact in practice. This should limit concussions in practice by 6% or even more they are thinking. The full speed drills with full contact has led to this happening and now people are standing up for their safety of the kids. In the NFL they are trying to implement rules on having just 2 personal fouls per player to limit concussions. This will take effect in the future years. They are also thinking about putting a timeline on when players can return to play after they have gained the ok to return to game form. A concussion is a type of brain injury. It's the most minor form. Technically, a concussion is a short loss of normal brain function in response to a head injury. But people often use it to describe any minor injury to the head or brain. Most of these concussion injuries happen in practice nearly 2 per team. This was 8 percent of all concussions. They have just continued to climb. Nearly 45% of concussions in football happen on pass plays. There are also studies about going to no Helmets in the NFL. Your helmet essentially is the hardest part of your body and now can be used as a weapon. They are trying to limit this. This action could lead to less hard, less concussions and less injuries. Having no helmets would cause fewer concussions and injuries in NFL and in high school...

...Do you think the National Basketball Association’s rule of making a player wait to be drafted after being one year removed from high school is unfair? Many high school basketball players think this rule is also unfair. They think this rule is unjust because college is not necessary for professional basketball players. Going to college and playing college basketball can be very helpful to the league, but it is not necessary. It is not guaranteed that you will be a well skilled player, or quite possibly a better player, if you go to college for one or more years instead of coming directly out of high school. Many National Basketball Association legends and future legends have bypassed college and has or is having a very successful and tenured career. LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard, and Kobe Bryant are just a few high school phenoms who turned professional and had sensational careers. Turning professional directly out of high school is a great idea, but it is also very controversial. Remember when Taylor Swift moved to Nashville at the age of fourteen to become a country music star and everyone ridiculed her and her parents for the...
