Nehemiah

The Book of Nehemiah is believed to be written by Ezra, with Nehemiah narrating in first person. Nehemiah was written from 444BC-425BC, and is historical in nature. While this book has a few themes, there are three main ones. It is an accurate picture of the Jewish peoples return after Babalonian captivity, renewing the wall of Jerusalem, and reforming the Jewish society. Nehemiah focuses mainly on King Artaxerxes I Longimanus, and Nehemiah himself. In chapters 1-6 the author tells about the construction of the wall of Jerusalem, and the poor condition the wall was in. He also reminds God of His covenant promise to Israel. In chapter 7, Ezra writes about the first Jews who came back in to the city, and how they could now protect themselves as long as they were faithful to God’s Word. In chapters 8-10 Ezra rereads portions of the law which cause the people to repent and revive themselves in God’s Word. The Book of Nehemiah was written to serve as a reminder that serving God is not always easy, but with Him by our side there is nothing that we can not do or get accomplished.

Isaiah

Isaiah was a prophet active in ministry from 740BC-680BC. There is no record of his specific dates of birth or death, however it is thought he was born 8th century BC in Jerusalem and is believed to have died during the reign of King Manasseh in 680BC. His body was found while chopping a tree. Isaiah had apparently been hiding inside the tree, and he was cut in half when they cut the tree down. In his life he was considered to be the greatest prophet, and was an advisor to four kings of Judea. He worked under King Jotham from 740-735BC, King Ahaz from 735-715BC, King Hezekiah from 715-686BC, and finally King Manasseh who reigned from 686-642BC. Isaiah was married to a prophetess with whom he had two sons. Even his sons names were considered prophetic signs confirming his message. It is widly thought that Isaiah is the author of the Book of Isaiah, however there in no concrete evidence to this theory. He did write other books, however they are not a part of the Holy Bible.

Jericho

The city of Jericho was founded in 9600 BC, and is located east of Jerusalem and northwest of The Dead Sea. It sets low in the Jordan Valley. Jericho is one of the oldest cities in the world, and was the most important Canaanite fortress city in the Jordan Valley. It serves as a backdrop throughout the Bible, with some of the key books being Joshua, Luke, and Mark. Jericho is an important city for the Jewish and Islamic people, because they both want control of the city and both believe God intended the city for them. According to the Bible, God intended the city of Jericho for the decendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jericho was destroyed because it interfered with Jewish control of all of Gods Promised Land-just like today- and it lay in ruin for over 400 years before Hiel of Bethel took on its rebuilding in the days of King Ahab.
