...Outline The Primary Skills Used In Counselling Relationships When planning this essay I assumed that I would just produce a narrative of the primary skills and how they can enhance any counselling relationship but after some thought I felt that for the sake of congruence, ‘a core condition’, along side that narrative I would relate it to my own learning experience. I came to the CPPD thinking that if I wanted to be a therapist, then trying to find a solution to my client’s problems was my only goal. I gave little thought of how I would achieve this and even less thought or credence to the relationship I would have with the client and what power that relationship holds. I have since discovered that we should try and treat the relationship that develops as a living breathing entity, which has the ability itself to shine a light on the client’s blockages. Rogers, in ‘On Becoming A Person’ says that: “ If I can create a relationship characterized on my part: by a genuineness and transparency, in which I am my real feelings; by a warm acceptance of and prizing of the other person as a separate individual; by a sensitive ability to see his world and himself as he sees them; Then the other individual in the relationship: Will experience and understand aspects of himself which previously he has repressed; Will find himself becoming better integrated, more able to function effectively; Will become more similar to the person he would like to be; Will be more self- directing...

Long-Term Management and Leadership Skills of a Facility Administrator The director of nursing (DON) holds one of the most crucial organizational positions to affect the quality of care and daily operations in nursing homes. The relationship between DONs and administrators influenced DONs’ leadership style and effectiveness. Interestingly, across all three groups, strong relationships supported the DONs efforts to sustain and initiate improvements, mitigated organizational resistance to change, and set the tone for the expectation for teamwork and adoption of changes to improve resident care. Demonstrate Quality Leadership Skills With growing expectations for DONs to address and sustain needed change, the findings from this study add to our understanding of factors that facilitate or impede DON...

...Overview This paper offers the non-subject specialist an overview of the literature which has influenced the development of listening and interpersonal skills in UK higher education. It refers to articles, seminal texts and writers within the field. In order to provide some context, the first section of the review covers some issues relating to the definition of listening and interpersonal skills and some examples are presented to demonstrate their interdependence. The importance of these skills within occupational and educational domains is also highlighted. The review then goes on to place listening and interpersonal skills in context by exploring historical perspectives, factors influencing current developments and providing an indication of issues which may affect future development. The paper introduces different approaches to listening and interpersonal skills within some key disciplines and considers the extent to which the teaching and learning of listening and interpersonal skills has been integrated within these discipline. In conclusion we consider emerging themes relating to advances in technology and widening participation, including the cross cultural agenda. A glance at the definitions section below will reveal the substantial overlap that exists between this topic and some of the other LearnHigher learning areas, most notably those relating to oral communications and group work. ...Introduction There is an increasing need for better management of Long Term Conditions (LTC) within Primary Health Care (PHC) that requires practice development processes and adaption to models of care that are person centred. Within my clinical setting implementation of a pilot scheme is underway with a common vision to work alongside the accompanying community pharmacy for better sharing of knowledge and information to enable optimum care for our mutually registered LTC patients. Analysis of evidence based practice, facilitation of roles and responsibilities, and appropriate health care frameworks will support how a plan is being developed that reflects nursing management and integrated service collaboration towards best health outcomes. Important to note that throughout this essay, reference will be made to Long Term Conditions, Chronic Conditions and Chronic diseases, these terms all relate to the same context. Evidence Mismanagement of chronic conditions is the leading cause of hospitalisations in New Zealand (NZ) (National Health Committee, 2007). The mantra ‘better, sooner, more convenient’ targets the role that primary health care in NZ must assume in order to reduce acute hospital admissions, through better management of patients with chronic conditions and, active support of high needs populations (Ministry of Health, 2011). The World Health Organisation (WHO, 2005) define long term / chronic conditions as having one or more of the following descriptions...

...illness about which there is currently much disagreement among medical professionals regarding its classification, aetiology and recommended treatment. Estimates of it’s prevalence in the UK for example have ranged from 6 to 2600 in 100’000 across 10 years of study (1). Estimates by national health organizations say 450’000 people in the UK suffer. it occurs more often in women and is less prevalent among children and adolescents. Most research done has been on the assumption that they’re the same and this is gives good enough information at least for therapeutic purposes. CFS didn’t gained acceptance as a bona fide illness until 1988 because it is a ‘diagnosis by exclusion’ illness that can’t be tested for directly. Also the primary symptoms of fatigue, lethargy and muscle aches are similar to psychological conditions like depression, leading it to be dismissed by many as ‘all in their head’, a viewpoint is still held by some authorities. The Centre for Disease Control does in fact legitimise C.F.S. (2) For a diagnosis the they require that it not be a life-long condition and that they have experienced at least six months of Unrelenting, unexplained fatigue that is described as ‘chronic and severe mental and physical exhaustion’ Also at...

It refers to a relationship between an experienced person and a less experienced person for the purpose of helping the one with less experienced one, known as “the protégé”. The protégé seeks the advice and support of the more experienced person. The mentor provides proper guidance and counselling so that the less experienced persons can advance in their lives, careers or education. According to Scandura, Tejeda, werther & Lankau (1996, p. 50), in the mentoring process, mentors speedup nurturing environments wherein protégés many grow faster and more professional than their peers and are therefore better prepared to compete in the organization and as leaders. ...were viewed by the medical profession as ‘soft sciences’, interesting but unimportant. With the advent of research into the links between physical and mental states in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries it is now possible to demonstrate that psychology can make a fundamental difference to physical as well as mental health. In this chapter, we explore the nature of psychology and its relevance to health and social care. We outline the different schools of thought and methods of inquiry in psychology. We seek to distinguish between psychology as an academic discipline and popular notions of psychology, and identify professionals whose practice is mainly concerned with the application of psychology. In order to show how psychology can be applied to health and social care, we introduce a family scenario whose characters appear in examples throughout the book. What is psychology? Psychology is the study of human behaviour, thought processes and emotions. It can contribute to our understanding of ourselves and our relationships with other people, if it is applied in an informed way. It enables a shared understanding of the actions that can be taken to improve health and wellbeing. It also provides guidance about embedding a health promotion approach into all planning processes, programs and service development across the NT. While this framework is intended to be used within the health sector, we strongly encourage other sectors and agencies outside of the health domain to use the framework. This framework should be used in conjunction with health promotion audit tools and other health promotion resources available in the NT, such as the Public Health Bush Books and the Quality Improvement Program Planning System (QIPPS). It is also designed to be used as a guide, together with other local, regional and national frameworks, policies, strategies and resources. Why Health Promotion? The World Health Organisation (WHO) acknowledges the growing evidence that health promotion and preventive health approaches are effective in improving overall health and wellbeing, reducing the burden of chronic disease and injury, addressing health inequities, facilitating the better use of resources and enhancing...
