Changing Our Lives

At this time in my life, after thinking long and hard about what I’m doing and where I’m heading, I came to the conclusion that going to college would be the best thing to do for myself and my future. I was living on a small island in Greece playing soccer for a professional team. I loved playing soccer because it was fun and it made me happy. While I was playing in a game I got seriously injured to my knee and needed surgery. After my knee surgery I wasn’t able to play the same way and after much thought I decided to stop playing soccer. A friend’s friend offered me a job as a waiter in one of the hotels on the island. I didn’t like working as a waiter and I didn’t see myself doing it for the rest of my life. My salary was not enough to live on, especially for what I had to go through with customers and other staff on a daily basis. Working as a waiter wasn’t for me. Living on a small island with tourism as the biggest source of income providing just a few months out of the year as a time where you can find employment was difficult. For the rest of the year, work was hard to find and so I spent the rest of the time on unemployment which was not enough for me to make a living. After realizing I was getting nowhere I wanted to be I decided to go to the United States of America and live with my family already living there. Once I came here, I decided to enroll in college in order to improve my life and to become a better person. This was one of my best decisions of my life because I believe I will have a better and more fulfilling life giving me many more opportunities leading to a better and happier future for myself.
