...Executive Summary (art of war) Sun Tzu was an ancient Chinese military general, strategist and philosopher whose teachings are based on the principles of the Taoist religion. He is the author of one of the most prominent pieces of literature during the era of the Warring States in which China entered around the first millennium B.C.E. In this work of art Sun Tzu takes a rational approach to the problem of conflict and dissects every aspect of it. He details how to overcome a conflict using specific procedures and methods. The main objectives when engaging in war, according to Tzu, are to evaluate your environment, identify your strengths and weaknesses as well as those of your opponent, and develop a full proof strategy based on these assessments. He defines and calls the reader to actions such as planning sieges, effectively forming your army, using force, maneuvering your army, using espionage and fire attacks, and a host of other related behaviors. Although contradictory to the title of the book, Sun Tzu’s primary message is that the peak efficiency of knowledge and strategy come from either avoiding conflict or making it unnecessary altogether. He writes, “To overcome others’ armies without fighting is the best of skills.” In conveying this message Sun Tzu does not attempt to persuade one to back down or run away from conflict. He is instead suggesting that if one strategically assesses the situation effectively, one should be able to defeat the opponent with one’s mind,...

...Quotes: James Madison: If men were angels, no government would be necessary. Theodore Roosevelt: Order without liberty and liberty without order are equally destructive. Benjamin Franklin: They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Questions: 1. What do you think that Theodore Roosevelt meant by the above quote? I think that Theodore Roosevelt meant that that even if people are free, but without order, then there will be total chaos. Also, even if there is order with no freedom, there will be total chaos. For example, Adolf Hitler had order among his people, but the people were not free and did not like him. 2. What are the 3 branches of government and what does each branch do? The three branches of government are judicial, legislative, and executive. The judicial branch is in charge of the court systems. The legislative branch makes the laws. The executive branch enforces the laws and policies and the administration of public affairs. 3. What is the term which describes this division of power into the 3 branches of government? The term that is used to describe the separation of power into three branches is called checks and balances. 4. Questions about interpreting the Constitution are decided by which branch of government? Questions about interpreting the constitution are decided by the judicial branch. 5. ...even forced sterilization accompanied second or subsequent pregnancies. It is not an all-encompassing rule because it has always been restricted to ethnic Han Chinese living in urban areas. Citizens living in rural areas and minorities living in China are not subject to the law. However, the rule has been estimated to have reduced population growth in the country of 1.3 billion by as much as 300 million people over its first twenty years. This rule has caused a disdain for female infants; abortion, neglect, abandonment, and even infanticide have been known to occur to female infants. The result of such Draconian family planning has resulted in the disparate ratio of 114 males for every 100 females among babies from birth through children four years of age. Normally, 105 males are naturally born for every 100 females. Recent Effects of the One Child Law Now that millions of siblings-less people in China are now young adults in or nearing their child-bearing years, a special provision allows millions of couples to have two children legally. If a couple is composed of two people without siblings, then they may have two children of their own, thus preventing too dramatic of a population decrease. Statistically, China's total fertility rate[->0] (the number of births per woman) is 1.7, much higher than slowly-declining Germany at 1.4 but lower than the U.S. at 2.1 (2.1 births per woman is the replacement level of fertility, representing a stable population, exclusive of migration)...

...meeting about getting more work to do. My boss hired 3 more people for now. He put me in charge of who was getting the workers and giving out the work load. This is what I said I will take one new hire , you take can take two. Then we will split the work load. My co worker said no that’s not fair. Then ran to the boss telling him I was putting the entire work load on him. I was not clear to him about what I was saying. I was not giving him more work; the work load was going to be 50 to 50, with or without the extra help. 6. How could this misunderstanding have been avoided? Should have said this is the work load, we are getting new workers I will take one and you will have two, and we will still have the same work load. 1. Who was the Sender? Hotel guest 2. Who was the receiver? Myself 3. What was the message? No one cleaned there room today. 4. What channel was used to send the message? Face to face 5. What was the misunderstanding that occurred? ...People http://www.marketingteacher.com/lesson-store/lesson-people.html People as part of the marketing mix People are the most important element of any service or experience. Services tend to be produced and consumed at the same moment, and aspects of the customer experience are altered to meet the individual needs of the person consuming it. Most of us can think of a situation where the personal service offered by individuals has made or tainted a tour, vacation or restaurant meal. Remember, people buy from people that they like, so the attitude, skills and appearance of all staff need to be first class. People have an important role in service delivery, they are relied upon to deliver and maintain transactional marketing and people play an important part in the customer relationship. People deliver services in all sorts of settings. It is an important element of the services marketing mix. If you go to an organized event such as the Olympics then everything about the experience is underpinned by people. Behind-the-scenes there are project managers, chefs and accountants. The people deliver the service and this is the same for restaurants, hairdressers and auto mechanics. People are the transactional interface between the company and its customers so people deliver the service and they collect money i.e. get paid on behalf the company for the service. So if you go to a restaurant the waiter will greet you, take your order and serve your food and finally he or she will take...

...ese drives might be transformed to a desire to organize children’s activities or to clean up the local riverfront. In regression we return to earlier, safer stages of our lives. This defense mechanism is most easily seen in children. Rationalization is a mechanism involving post hoc (after the fact) logical explanations for behaviors that were actually driven by internal unconscious motives. Psychoanalysis well recognizes that the explanations we give for our behavior are not necessarily even remotely related to the true causes. Freud explored the unconscious in exquisite detail, but he was relatively unconcerned with possible cultural variations. Mechanical medical models saw people as influenced by internal fluids. Psychoanalysis Sigmund Freud’s approach to understanding human behavior; also, Freud’s psychotherapeutic techniques Psychoanalytic approaches to personality are generally difficult to evaluate as scientific theories. They often are not disconfirm able because there is always another postulated hidden mechanism ready to explain any observations. Controlled studies are rarely employed. Psychosurgery: operating on the brain in an attempt to repair personality problems—has a long and horrific history. In the 1940s, the prefrontal lobotomy was the technique of choice. The surgeons would drill holes into the skull, insert a dull knife, and slice the brain lobes until the patient (who was under only local anesthesia) seemed totally disoriented. ...I was a precocious kid, the kind that’s remarkably well-spoken for a 6 year old, and everyone thinks it’s cute. At that time I figured, since I got along with adults so well, I must be pretty much on par. I knew I had facts and figures to learn, but obviously I operated on a similar level. But then I turned 10, and I could plainly see how much sophistication I lacked when I was only 6. I’ll skip the montage, you get it, this is an ongoing process. But think about this. Now that you’re an adult, when is the last time you can remember being young and dumb? What is the oldest you can remember being, when you were a categorically different person? I remember turning 18, and I’m talking to this girl online for a couple months, and fast forward a year and I’ve eloped with her. That was dumb. I’m 21, I’m spending a lot of my week as an officer in this “business fraternity” at my third tier business school because I have this vague idea that it’s a “great networking opportunity,” whatever the fuck that means. That was pretty dumb. It gets fuzzier at that point. As an adult you have fewer growth experiences than you do as a child, so it takes longer. The gap between now and when you were young and dumb gets longer and longer. That’s a bad thing. I have a theory that you should strive to keep that gap as short as possible. Every year you should look back and think about what a dumbass you were a year ago. That way, you know you’re growing. To phrase it another way...
