Tchaikovsky Symphony 5 Essay

...that this was created during Tchaikovsky’s falling off point before of the 10 year period that took place between his 4th and his 5th symphony. Despite the creator’s resentment felt towards this piece, it still became one of his most popular works, and for good reason. This symphony has four movements, beginning with Adante. The orchestra consisted of three flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, and strings. The lights in the room eventually dim once again, showing an indication of what is soon to come. The main things that are immediately apparent in the first movement are the strings and woodwinds that play in a seemingly rubato and allegro tempo. Beginning with piano dynamics it eventually becomes mezzo forte. This movement presented me with the feeling of warmth and happiness, knowing the events that this movement is setting up will be...

Winter Concert Analysis Sartell High School

...interesting and entertaining variety of music and effectively brought the spirit of the Christmas season to the auditorium of Sartell High School. The Wind Ensemble began with Robert Buckley’s piece, Arctic Fire. This piece was especially impactful because dynamics were used effectively. This piece attempts to depict a colorful sunrise over the frozen northern tundra. It opens with giant suspension cords to illustrate the shooting rays of light over the mountains, and then moves into a quieter and more complex section in m. 18 to illustrate the snow covered ground. The dynamic difference between the first 17 measures and the middle section from measure 42 to 62 was important because is was the primary musical element that was used to paint the clear picture of the North for the audience. The Wind Ensemble was able to execute the written dynamics...

...CONCERT CRITIQUE Constructive Critique of Your Choir’s Performance: -What are (minimum) three (3) constructive criticisms that you can make of the performance of each of the pieces your ensemble performed? While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks 1. I think because the sopranos were missing three people (handbell), the sopranos were not very strong compared to the other parts. 2. The sopranos also did not really have great posture during the first song. 3. I think that have both alto and soprano for the echo parts were much more over powering than the mens. The Christmas Song 1. At the end of phrases the notes sounded flat to me. 2. We should have worked more on the crescendos, to give more depth to the song. 3. We also should have worked on the tricky notes, such as when the sopranos sing, “every child is going to spy”. The Manger of Bethlehem 1. Breathing was defiantly hard for this song, and we took breaths in places marked no breath. 2. Although this song was well sung, giving it more crescendo would have gave it more depth. 3. The guitar and flute was not really heard over all our voices. :( Hodie 1. We could have used more forte when singing Gloria in excelsis deo four times. 2. When we fist came in, I felt that men where to weak. 3. ...many different lights and light sources. The stage lighting itself would be fairly dark, consisting of thin beams of varying colors that move around the scene, giving a sense of motion. As the scene calls for it, there would be a large white light spotlight to highlight the main action on stage. More interestingly, the light sources found in the scene would vary dramatically. With the help of some fog, a light show of streaming colors would dance around the set, framing the dance floor. The dance floor itself is the quintessential dance floor in a disco club, made up of many square, multi-colored panels. Bulbs of different colors would periodically fade in and out in the background to maintain a steady rhythm and keep the lighting on stage dynamic. The actors in the background, at the bar, or not dancing will also have prop cigarettes that emit a signature orange dot of light. The actors could subtly choreograph the movement of the cigarette rhythmically with the music to help with audience immersion into the dance scenes. Electronic candles set on tables surrounding the dance floor would provide an “in-universe” light source the highlight character dialog. As characters sit down to have dialog, these dimmable candles will get brighter, guiding audience attention. All of these lights will be in service to a large mirrored disco ball that remains above the dance floor for the...

Jazz Concert Essay

...The jazz performance was held November 10th at 8pm at Harford Community College. It was a cold evening and Joppa Hall was felt empty. The reason for that emptiness was a result of the fact that most individuals who were in Joppa Hall on that cold November evening were in fact all packed into Recital Hall #1 to fill their ears and souls with music. Most individuals in the hall were older and seemed to be there only for the music. The Silvano Monasterios Quartet were set to preform at 8 pm and as that hour approached more people flowed into the small and tightly packed room. The ensemble was an international one with musicians from around the world. Performing that night were Roberto Giaqunto on the drum, Joseph Lepore on the Bass, Troy...

Explore the Convention Used in the Threeperformances.

...The aim of this essay is to show how the three performances in dance, music and drama were influenced by Brecht, Lea Anderson and the various artists involved with the musical genre of minimalism. This essay will also describe the process the ensemble went through while devising and rehearsing the performance as well as the similarities between the art forms, such as the significance of characterisation within dance and drama when portraying stereotypical characters. Devising For drama, the practitioner the ensemble studied was Berthold Brecht, an early 20th century German theatre practitioner who pioneered the theatrical movement of Epic theatre. Brecht is of particular interest given the similarities in subject matter, as the groups subject is about the detention facility Guantanamo Bay; thematically similar to Brecht’s work which also dealt with topics involving the abuse of power, institutional corruption, the effects of war etc. The ensemble initially did a great deal of research into Epic theatre and the techniques of Epic theatre as well as Berthold Brecht and his life. Following that, they then made a mind map of the problems surrounding Guantanamo and focused particularly on the issues that garnered the least attention publically yet posed the greatest threat to the liberty and rights of everyone. Based on this we chose the unlawful kidnaping, imprisonment and torture of individuals without trial, the implementation of secret courts, and the propaganda published by...

The names of the pieces are Toccata for band by Frank Erickson, Held Still in quick of Grace by Jack Stamp and Sun Dance by Frank Ticheli. The first piece I'm going to talk about is An American Hymntune. This Piece started with a very mellow tone and a prominent solo from the Baritone. As the piece progresses the trumpet, flute and clarinet mix for a great loud dynamic. The melody in this piece was amazing, it was really soothing to listen to. I was confused about the identities of the dancers. The explanation next to the clip indicated that the dancers were Philip Glass, Benjamin Millepied, and Gillian Murphy. However, it looked as if the male solo dancer and male Pas de Deux dancer was the same person. The dancers used their hands and abdomen to give images of birds (I interpreted it that way). The movements were animating and vibrating. The dance seemed to have flexible dynamics of yoga. The dancers ran, galloped, bended, and twisted on the three levels of space. La Bayedere

...Feldman Model La Bayadere Houston’s ballet, La Bayadere choreographed by Stanton Welch is a type of world class dance with professional dancers. The beautiful yet plain lighting of the theater gives the audience a perception of how well the performance is presented. The theater is quite spacious and is very suitable for a world class theater performance. The overall look of the theater itself gives off a professional look to it and is quite impressive to the audience. Upon entering, the audience can see a beautiful painted background that represents a palace on water with a scene of the Taj Mahal. The music is based on classical ballet music and grows louder and whenever danger is represented in the scene. For example, the transition of the very beginning than to the scene of the tiger grows much louder. In the opening scene of La Bayadere, the lights are on Solor who kills the man-eating tiger that has been causing danger to the village that is nearby. There is a performer wearing red and jumps up and down and the viewer can tell that it portrays the man-eating tiger. Also, there is red fire burning from the centerpiece on the stage. Later on, Nikiya comes out and gracefully thanks Solor in the form of beautiful ballet dancing. Moreover, the viewer can tell the profound chemistry between both Nikiya and Solor. In the beginning, there were about twenty people crouching down, but the audience had their eyes on the main performer in the scene which was the tiger. The use of...
