Personal Ethical Statement

Developing your ethical values and acting upon your developed value is hard to master but over time you begin to see how to use it to your advantage. To master all four ethical lenses is a ongoing process which was hard to think of that way, never an end to it, always improving it, and drawing from others ideas and viewpoints is great way to start developing your own ethical lenses.
My personal ethical viewpoint on this simulation was it all boiled down to maturity, the maturity to tell mark he copied my research paper and turned it in for credits risking both our credentials in school and risking his getting expelled, basically not thinking ahead of his actions and not using his own ethical lenses thus throwing us both in a bad spot legally, personally and ethically. I just found it highly childish and risky of a friend to copy your homework and risk both your reputations like that, very irresponsible. In this simulation I swayed towards, rationality, but not excluding equality for mark and Lisa's situation. I can use most lenses to my advantage moving fluidly among them to adapt to certain situations.
My blind spot, well I don't really have one according my ethical lenses inventory, I'm balanced, I see both the strengths and weaknesses of each lens and I actually agree with that, my ethical lens actually does feel like its explaining who I am as a person and how I react to certain situations regarding my whole life, and even on this small ethical course we did I felt like my ethical lens played strong and true. My risk is inaction, in this ethical course I did consider taking inaction and let it ride out to see what would happen, maybe I could just rewrite the essay if he didn't get caught! ...Ethics Professor Fumerton November 30, 2012 “Ethical judgments are social instruments” In his essay “The Emotive Meaning of Ethical Terms”, Charles Leslie Stevenson (C.L. Stevenson), a professor of philosophy who taught at the University of Michigan, theorizes that the function of ethical statements is not to describe, but is rather to prescribe. He claims that language carries a type of meaning which he calls ‘emotive meaning’, rather than descriptive meaning and uses many examples of the term ‘good’ to establish his belief. He aims at showing that the notion of ‘good’ is equivalent to taking favor of something (“X is good”= “I like X”). Stevenson’s in-depth analysis of the concept of ‘good’ ultimately shows his readers the reality that the disagreement over whether something is good or not is just simply a disagreement in attitude. The first method used in determining the emotive meaning of ethical statements is to first address ethical questions in answering the question ‘Is X good?’ by what Stevenson calls ‘substitution’.
