Diversity is an important part of the 21st century society that we live in today because it brings an abundance of different views and opinions to the world. Personally diversity is a very important part of my life because of the exposure to different cultures, varied ways of thinking, and friendships I've made with others over the years. Therefore, diversity has brought a great change in the way I live my life today. In the time I've spent at school I've met a great number of people that practice different customs and cultures. For example, I had a few friends that were catholic and took part in lent which is the season of penance, reflection, and fasting that starts on Ash Wednesday. This experience was worthwhile because it became part of a lesson I had in my world …show more content…
Varying opinions and beliefs are just as important as a person's upbringing and culture because a person's thoughts and ideas are what make them who they are. It's a given that not all people share the same opinions on various topics but because of what they've grown to believe and the information they've gathered makes a diverse group of people a very special thing. For instance, in my AP Government class my teacher Ms. Petit will often ask the class what they think on certain political issues so that we can understand the difference in each other's views and standings. These types of open discussions help me immensely because I don't always understand the issue at hand or how it should dealt with, but there are always some students in my class that can understand and clarify these problems with me. Now on the other hand if I didn't have a diverse class who always thought the same as each other our collective understanding in the class would fall exponentially because we wouldn't be able to think outside of what we are familiar with. In this way diversity has helped my academics for my

Diversity in Uk Retail Workforce

...Integrity………………………………………7 6.2 Data Protection Act……….……………………………..7 7. Time Plan……………………………………………………………..8 8. References…………………………………………………………….9 1. Introduction This paper focuses on workforce diversity management by reviewing past studies and theories and applying it to the UK retail sector. ‘ The basic concept of managing diversity accepts that the workforce consists of a diverse population of people consisting of visible and non-visible differences… and is founded on the premise that harnessing these differences will create a productive environment in which everyone feels valued, where all talents are fully utilized and in which organizational goals are met’ (Torrington et al, 2011: 476). 2. Literature Review According to Ellis and Sonnenfeld (1994) and Brenda (2010), the main purpose of diversity management and its primary function is to increase employee performance and to avoid quick-fix solutions (Trennery and Paradies, 2012) allowing maximizing advantages and minimizing disadvantages of a diverse workforce. Diversity was usually expressed only in the form of age, gender and ethnicity until the middle of the 20th century (Kosek et al, 2005), viewed simply as an obligation to follow the human rights legislations imposed by the government, However, due to globalization and demographic changes the diversity...

...Health Care Provider and Faith Diversity: Peer Review Ryan J. Bartholomeo Grand Canyon University Spirituality and Christian Values in Health Care and Wellness April 25, 2013 Health Care Provider and Faith Diversity: First Draft Knowledge and acceptance are one of the two most important factors when discussing the diversity of faith expressions and belief systems of patients as a health care provider. For this assignment, I decided to research Christianity and one other diverse faith group; interviewing said friend about her faith, Naturalism. In the health care industry, health care providers whose spiritual beliefs differ from their own personal beliefs are a common issue. Learning how to appropriately and respectfully handle each individual’s diversity and faith or belief system is of the upmost importance within the health care industry. Interview Assessment Analysis When conducting my interview with my close friend, Asyia Aanandi, asking a wide range of questions on her faith was required for further assessment; furthermore, the best way to incorporate Asyia’s beliefs of a Naturalist toward her philosophy of providing care from the perspective of her faith. Asyia Aanandi’sAanandi spiritual beliefs are that of a Naturalist, believing in only one single notion; Homo-sapiens feel, think, and act on, due to “chemical reactions” inside ones brain and body. Naturalism is the belief that as humans, acting on...

Multicultural Education

...develop along with it. Progress in education depends on the quality of teachers. With the constant changing demographics in the United States it has become important to realize that it was not the minorities who needed to adapt, but the teachers. Classrooms today are becoming increasingly diverse. This growing diversity has caused a myriad of challenges for the practicing teacher. This increased diversity has presented challenges for the practicing teacher, and while there has been an immense effort to provide these teachers with professional development to meet this challenge, many issues still exists. It became evident that preparing teachers for this change was of extreme importance. In turn, the awareness to prepare pre-service teachers for multicultural education has become a main focal point of this reform. Works Cited Ameny-Dixon, Gloria. ...Diversity in the Workplace / Wal- Mart Case Shirley Nolan October 30, 2011 Class #: 1109MGMT Section: 610514 Turnitin Score: 14% This Research paper is about diversity in the workplace. It also talks about how management handles diversity in the workplace and how they view it. The case that I will be talking about is the Wal-Mart case. This case will also show you how leadership played a very important role in this case when it comes to the managers that work for this company. This case had a big in pack on the retail organizations around the world. Woman that works for Wal-Mart are not given the same advances that the males are in the same position in this company. I also talk about some suggestions that managers at Wal-Mart could have done different to stop this case from going to the Supreme Court on June 20, 2001. One of the most significant issues that management faces today is diversity in the workplace. “Diversity means employing people without discrimination on the basis of gender, age and ethnic or racial background.” (Graves, 1993, p .4). Diversity has important implications for the values of an organization’s culture and for organizational effectiveness. Management is the process by which a person in a supervisory role focuses on planning...

Background and introduction Students had written card to their tutor; ‘Merry Christmas’ was the message and in a variety of languages: English, Italian, Chinese, Polish, African, German, Malaysian, Spanish and others, which remained unidentified (tutor’s limitations). It was touching, but more than that it was a sharp reminder that for teaching to be relevant and meaningful to students, course design and teaching has to take into account the issues, needs and opportunities presented by learner diversity and increasing globalisation. An inclusive definition of diversity A personal, anecdotal recognition of the importance of student diversity is backed by weight of evidence and research. The Higher Education Statistics Agency (2005), identified that of all first degree students in 2003/4, at least 6.4% were known to have a disability, c. 56% were female and 16% part time. Numerous references, projects, papers and discussions are dedicated to the topics of diversity and its stable mate ‘widening participation’. They have emerged, not only in specialist HE channels such as the HEFCE website but also, as...
