This summer I would like to go on a mission trip to Los Angeles, California. I want to go on this trip for many reasons: the first being the chance to volunteer at Homeboy Industries. Ever since freshman year when Father Greg Boyle spoke to us, I have been interested in learning more about Homeboy Industries. On their website, I read a few stories about people who were formerly incarcerated getting their lives turned around due to Homeboy Industries. These countless stories made me realize that stigmas aren’t always correct. One of the things I struggle with, and would like to changes, is the blind belief to the notions of these stigmas. These stories opened my eyes and made me realize one of the goals I have for this trip. Which is to be able to truly see the world from a different perspective. I have been very blessed in my life to have had all of the opportunities I have been given. However, I realize that others are not as fortunate. I am not a minority and have never been worried about my parent’s financial situation. Through no fault of their own, the kids at St. Dolores Mission are both. I have had the privilege of having more opportunities than them, and what I don’t want to do is take what I have for granted. In my life, I’ve felt entitled to a lot of things because I’ve always had everything I wanted. In fact, the most recent thing I feel entitled to is my own room. I really think it’d be good for me to be around and work with kids less fortunate than I. I think it would allow me to put things into perspective and really find out what matters most to me. I hope to connect with these kids, and truly get a sense of what their lives are like. I want to become more gracious and make sure the privilege I have doesn’t turn into
