The perception an individual holds of the life they're leading is the foundation of personal success; it is the amount of contentment or happiness with what they have created for themselves, obtained for themselves, or the goals they accomplished in their lifetime. Satisfaction one feels with who they are as a person, as well as the light they see both various material components and intangible, non-physical aspects of life are ways personal success is measured. A house, the number in your bank account, and cars are all examples of external success measured by physical possessions. Instances of priceless, non-material measurements of success can be family, experiences, and milestones. One example of a combination of external and internal measurements …show more content…
Even though there will be moments in your lifetime where positivity appears an impossible notion, this is doubtlessly the most imperative attribute you will need to embrace. Rotten days or moods are acceptable to have and absolutely normal, however it is at all times essential to look for the brighter side of a situation or occurrence that isn't in your favor because you can always gain something from every experience, if you choose to. This means you will have continuous personal success if your outlook is positive. Nonetheless, your own choices will be one of the biggest determining factors of where you end up in life. Mistakes, hardships, and roadblocks will always happen throughout life which you will be required to overcome and cope with. How you deal with these adversities can drive you forward to become even more successful than you would be without such occurrences in the end. However, they could very easily be your downfall, but only if you choose to dwell or let them affect you negatively. All of these hard times and blunders will make you grow as a person and give you a valuable lesson, if you decide to learn from them and make the conscious effort to see them in a positive light. You can never obtain anything or accomplish goals without being self-motivated enough to do so. There will come a point in life where I, and other figures in your life, will no longer be able to push you. You will need to draw the motivation to start and finish, excel, or acquire the projects you will need to do, the tasks you will need to complete, and both the material and non-material things you want in life entirely from yourself. Without a drive to do that, you won't ever be able to accomplish or finish anything. Eventually you will end up with nothing, or at the most nothing from your own achievements or hard work. It is so vital that you push yourself, since your life is only for you at the end of the day. Yes, you may have a family of your own one day that will be part of your motivation and there will be responsibilities you will have to them, but you will not have what you personally want and need in life if you do not go out into the world and get it. If you can't be ambitious enough to finish anything or work for anything you will never be successful in any

Personal Responsibility and College Success

...Personal Responsibility and College Success Andrew More Gen/200 August 20, 2012 Prof. Cassandra Smith Personal Responsibility and College Success Personal responsibility for me is an important concept composed of three parts. It is a continuous process, starting with the recognizing of social standards, which leads into the formulation of a plan as an effort to comply with these standards, and ends with the acceptance that failures are a direct result of my own shortcomings. These components are every bit as important as the whole, all intrinsically tied in with long term college success. Personal responsibility commences with the recognizing of social standards. People do this automatically without even knowing it. It is the constant desire to fit in, the interpretation of what is socially acceptable or not. This is where I choose what social group I wish to belong to. Each social group has its own different set of standards, yet they are always polarized into success or failure. My understanding of these standards is the basis for my perception of what failure is, and what success is. According to Haskins (2009) “When applied to education, personal responsibility means that students accept the responsibility to study hard and to learn as much as they can in courses that press against the limits of their capacity.” It can be said that students in general wish to be perceived as successful. The first thing I as a student do is evaluate what success means...

Personal Responsibility Is a Master Key to Success

...Personal Responsibility is a Master Key to Many Successes Teri Warrick GEN 200 Dr. Ward July 18, 2013 Personal Responsibility is a Master Key to Many Successes Personal responsibility is something taught and learned. It is accepting and owning one’s own choices and actions regardless of the consequences; to take complete ownership of one’s physically, emotionally, and psychologically self. Acceptance of personal responsibility requires integrity, commitment, and dedication. Possessing the ability to recognize how some decisions and actions can affect the people around you. Parents teach these values to their children at a very early age. Parents teach commitment by encouraging children to follow through with a promise, dedication by encouraging them to keep trying, regardless of how many times they may fail, and accountability if they choose not to. These are all building blocks to learning personal responsibility. As a mother and a college student, I have the personal responsibility to dedicate myself to my children and my education. I have had to utilize all resources available to me to be successful at both, and it takes honest commitment and dedication to achieve that success. Balancing family and school...

Personal Responsibility Is the Fuel for College Success

...Personal Responsibility is the fuel for college success XXXX GEN/200 XXXX Instructor: XXXX Personal Responsibility is the Fuel for College Success Although many people attend universities and colleges, not everyone has a successful college experience. Success in college relies on many things. Dedication, a positive attitude, and good time management skills are just a few of requirements for a successful college experience, but without the one most important component, college success is not possible. The most important component in the equation for s successful college experience is personal responsibility. Personal responsibility is necessary for college success. An example of a car can be used to demonstrate college success. A car may have all of the necessary components to run; an engine, transmission, wheels, etc., but without fuel, the car will go nowhere. No matter how good all of the parts of the car seem to be, without fuel, the car will not move. In the case of college success, personal responsibility is the fuel. Just as a car goes nowhere without fuel, college success cannot happen without personal responsibility. A college student may have everything they need for college; the...

Personal Responsibility and College Success

...Fallon Cooper Gower GEN/200 April 30, 2012 University of Phoenix Personal Responsibility and College Personal responsibility varies for each individual, but for me it encompasses all areas of my life. It determines how I choose to live my life via my moral compass. Education and personal responsibility are two aspects that can sometimes be hard for people to take control of. It is much easier to point a finger when things do not go as planned, such as failing a test or turning an assignment in late. In order for students to be successful in college, they must practice personal responsibility by holding accountability for their actions, identifying educational goals, and using time management skills effectively. I have made mistakes in my college career, and I do not always blame who I should. Sometimes, I would much rather blame the teacher for failing a test or not agreeing with my grades when either turning my assignments late or not turning them in at all. The truth is that I should hold myself accountable for my actions. It was up to me to get the work done and to turn in the assignments. It is also my personal responsibility to study for the tests and to put in the correct amount of time each week in order to pass the course. I appreciate the teachers that do not give in the rules that they have made, and those who hold us students to our lack of responsibility. Learning includes making mistakes, but if we do not learn from our mistakes then that is solely our fault...

Personal Plan for Success

...Neither success nor failure depends on the complexity of a plan. It is quite the reverse. Success depends on the planner and the execution of the plan. An ethical strategy and motivation play important roles in achieving accomplishment. In addition, setting short- and long-term goals, establishing and utilizing a list of resources, and continual improvement are equally important. My personal plan for success is relatively simple. I will not compromise my values or morals to achieve a position in my professional or academic life. By continuing to base my decisions on what I believe is good and right, I will succeed in life as a whole. I would rather fail in both by treating people with the same respect and extending the same courtesy I would prefer, than to succeed at either. Honest failure is far more rewarding than deceitful or manipulative success. By carefully analyzing various opportunities, I will consider the possible impact on all who are involved. The main source of motivation is my family. Earning my degree will create openings that will allow me to provide a better quality of life for them. Setting and achieving goals will also help me stay motivated. The short-term goal of finishing my classes thus far successfully has motivated me to continue with the pursuit of a degree. My long-term goal is to become debt free long before I retire. To stay motivated during the process of achieving goals, I will manage my time to avoid stress. I, like many other...

Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility is being accountable for the decisions made in life. The choices we make affect the outcome, and we are liable for those decisions. Smart and rational life choices will result in success in life. Even if life leads down an unsuccessful path, personal blame is the correct choice and not the blame of others. By understanding that concept, one can turn the unsuccessful path into a successful one. The connection of personal responsibility and success is prevalent in many parts of life, from work to personal life to school. Accepting personal responsibility is a key element for success in school. “Responsibility is ‘response-ability’ – the ability to choose your response to any event, even when the event itself is beyond your control”. (Ellis, 2011, p. 171) Elements exist during school that will be beyond control, such as group work and other team members completing their part of the assignment. By studying hard, participating in group work, collaborating with other students, and doing honest assignments, one can work toward personal success of the highest grade achievable. The work put into assignments will reflect the outcome of success. If there is no effort, the grade will reflect the lack of work. “There is another way, called taking responsibility. You can recognize that you choose your grades by choosing your actions. Then you are the source, rather than the result, of the grades you get”. (Ellis,...

Define Success Definition Essay

...Definition of Success Throughout Life In the Meriam Webster dictionary, success is defined as a favorable or desired outcome (Success). Despite this, success’s perceived meaning is accomplishing one’s goals or making one’s dreams a reality. It is important to note that one’s personal definition of success can determine one’s maturity and ideals. However, on a personal level success is tricky to define as it changes through one’s life. Another bump in defining success is that it is different for every individual. It largely depends on the circumstances of one’s upbringing as well. For a child, success is generally small scale and achievable in a single day. One example is their ability to convince their parents to buy them toys. Friendship is also a big way they define success. How much they learn in elementary and preschool is how they might define success as well. Throughout a child’s early life, this small view of success is largely uniform and does not expand until they enter high school. Success’s definition changes and starts to vary from person to person for the first time when they enter high school. For the scholarly, academics determine whether they are a success. Others, namely the athletes, define success as how well they do in sports. Finally, there are the nerdy who define success, as having more...

Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility The dictionary defines responsibility as an obligation to carry forward an assigned task to a successful conclusion. The quality or state of being responsible: as moral, legal, reliable, trustworthy, and mentally accountable. Personal responsibility is the willingness to both accept the importance of standards that society establishes for individual behavior and to make strenuous personal efforts to live by those standards. Personal responsibility is a life time of choices for which we are solely accountable. If there is something we don’t like about our lives, then we are the only one that can change it. Our lives are what we make of them. If we make poor choices, then we have to deal with the consequences. We have all at one time or another found that it may have been easier to make excuses, or blame other people and things for our misfortune, unhappiness, or lack of accomplishments. I will be the first to admit that I have been guilty of feeling sorry for myself when things didn’t go quite right. This is when I have to step back and eventually realize that my successes have usually come when I took responsibility and was solely accountable. As with our everyday lives, responsibility is very important to our college success. Our instructor gives us, or directs us to the tools we need to succeed; a syllabus, assignments, and reading being just some of those tools. They want us to independently or in teams apply new learning, manage our time...
