First, lets start by explaining plagiarism and by listing the many different forms of it. “To plagiarize is to: to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own, to use (another's production) without crediting the source, to commit literary theft, or to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source”(Merriam-Webster 2012). When you steal someones words and use them as your own, you are saying that the original author had nothing to do with the material and that you came up with it. A good example would be if I wrote a book about a wizard, named Harry Potter, without providing credit to J.K. Rowling who actually wrote the book. That is essentially the most basic form of plagiarism that everyone …show more content…
Type one is the easiest one to commit being that it involves taking someones complete work and submitting it as your own. This is known as the “Copycat plagiarizer.” Type two is the most common and is caused from individuals copying and pasting too much information from the article directly to their paper. As a result of this, the paper will be almost identical to the article itself. Type three is very similar to the previous with the differences being that the writer tries to change a few parts of the article in hopes of not being caught. Type four appears when the writer takes information from many articles, tries to tie them all together into one article, and claim as their own. Type five is much like type two with the lack of citations to the previous owner of the information. Type six is a mixture of type two and type five, where the author hopes that with the majority of their work being cited someone will not notice the info they did not cite. Type seven takes information from many different articles and chops everything up and places everything in a different order with parts from each source. Type eight is a little bit different from the other types in that the author pretty much makes a fake citation. This is most common if the author can not find enough sources to cite for a paper. Type nine involves making a completed paper, with proper citations, and none of the authors actual words. Lastly, type ten happens when the author cites everything properly but makes their own paper similar to a paper they are citing. As small as it may be, this is still seen as theft. “This information comes from plagiarism.org and each type relates the severity of the issue starting with Type

...THE B L A C K SWAN The HIGHLY I mpact IM of the PROBABLE Nassim Nicholas Taleb U.S.A. $26.95 Canada $34.95 is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpre dictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9 / 1 1 . For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. A BLACK SWAN Why do we not acknowledge the phenomenon of black swans until after they occur? Part of the answer, according to Taleb, is that humans are hardwired to learn specifics when they should be focused on generalities. We concentrate on things we already know and time and time again fail to take into consideration what we don't know. We are, therefore, unable to truly estimate oppor tunities, too vulnerable to the impulse to simplify, narrate, and categorize, and not open enough to rewarding those who can imagine the "impossible." For years, Taleb has studied how we fool our selves into thinking we know more than we actually do. We restrict our thinking to the irrelevant and inconsequential, while large events continue to surprise us and shape our world. Now, in this reve latory book, Taleb explains everything we know about what we don't know. He offers...
