Project Plans in the New World
The article reviewed Rosenwinkel opinion on project management and the project planning. In the article he stated that project planning could be a waste of time, money and manpower. It has been implemented. (Rosenwinkel, 1995) It is clear we have a different opinion about project planning. In my experience project planning was essential to keeping the project on track and the team focuses. The plan has so many benefits that I can see limited projects that a plan may not be necessary. The projects that are small and have limited people working on it and the project manager is very focus and knowledgeable of the project. I think another consideration is the cost of the project work is money and the success of project is imperative, so a project plan would be the logical way to go. I work for the government and review contract and have sat in on phrase reviews for the various project and I could not see these project progressing without a plan. Now that I have addressed the importance of a project plan I will discuss the project variables and people variables that affect a project.
The various variables that a project may have are: Are the project expectation clearly defined and stable; the relative time frame for the completing the project; has a project with similar expectations and similar requirements in expertise been successfully completed before in the same organization by the same people; is the organizational structure within which the project is taking place stable or undergoing change. (Rosenwinkel, 1995) From experience I have dealt with a project that we worked on which entail a new medical device that would service our wounded warriors. The project expectation was clearly define we knew who the project manager was,
