Time For Positive Change
Introduction
Organizational change occurs when business strategies or major sections of an organization are altered. It is defined as a change that has significant effects on the way work is performed in an organization. Innovation is more important than during this present day. Rainsoft a local company exhibits the positive benefits of change as the company continues to grow and expand with the current market.
Company Overview Rainsoft is a water treatment company that has been operating since 1953. The company serves to improve the quality of drinking water. RainSoft started with one location in Bensenville, Illinois. Today RainSoft, a division of Aquion Inc., is an international company with dealerships in the United States and 20 other countries. The company headquarters are located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. RainSoft produces a host of water and air purifiers ranging from small household sizes to large industrial sizes. The company also produces portable purifiers and filtration systems for use in hotels and hospitals. Rainsoft has been cited for its customer service and superb quality products offered to its customers. The RainSoft company's products are sold, installed and serviced by more than 150 independent dealers in the U.S. and in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. A RainSoft dealer is an independent businessman or woman with exclusive rights to sell and install RainSoft water treatment equipment in a specified area(s). Each RainSoft operation is a ran by an independent person.

DIAGNOSIS RainSoft provides a service that most people would like to have in their home however the price can be a little overwhelming. There are several water purification system providers in the business. Culligan®, Ionics®, Kinetico®, Rain Soft®, Hague®, Water Resources, Rayne®, Eco Water® etc. RainSoft is sold by independent dealers so its products are not generally available at a local store. Whereas some of the brands mentioned above are available at local stores such as Home Depot and Lowe’s. One major benefit to purchasing from one of these retail stores is that a consumer can make purchase using their personal credit card or a credit card issued by the store for purchase of items that store sales. When purchasing a treatment system from RainSoft the consumer must either finance the system through their bank or credit union or they can finance the unit through the dealer. The down fall to this is that financing a unit through a dealer or the company has proved to be costly.

KOTTER’S 8 STEP APPROACH For change to be successful everyone must want it. According to Kotter’s research, 70% of all major change efforts in organizations fail, because organizations often do not take the holistic approach required to see the change through. By following Kotter’s 8 Step Process, organizations can avoid failure and become adept at change. By improving their ability to change, organizations can increase their chances of success, both today and in the future. Without this ability to adapt continuously, organizations cannot thrive Develop a sense of urgency around the need for change. This may help you spark the initial motivation to get things moving.
The first step in Kotter’s approach is to create a sense of urgency. It is imperative for a company to identify what aspects of a company need to be changed. In the case of Rainsoft the need for change is the payment methods. The product needs to be more accessible to consumers. The idea is to get the product to my customers. If the product is on the shelves in stores then more people will be able to purchase the product. A meeting should be conducted with key management personnel initially. Zeroing in on the most effective change leaders , the development of a schedule that everyone must adhere to would be done. Any leaders who were unable to meet the schedule or are on the fence about the change process would be dismissed, as for this team only a influential people are needed. Creating a presentation demonstrating how the future will be different from the past. If a water filtration system is moving from an independent dealer to a chain the chances of the profit increase are much greater. After presenting the plans for the future it is important to continue to communicate the vision. Daily meetings regarding the new plans to get our products to the stores will be held at the beginning of the shifts so that we could brainstorm ideas. After the change leaders are established and a the plan in in place, it is time to weed out individuals or practices that are not beneficial to the company. At this point it is time to revamp all process and make sure that the future will be prosperous. To begin with placement of a few filtration systems would be placed in a few stores. The goal would be, to have maybe ten leave the shelves in the span of a month. At the end of the month the team would gather together and verify the results If the goal was met there would be a party celebrating the success. Each week we could continue to increase the goal. At this stage more change would be implemented. Employee demonstrations would also be considered and extra time off or gift cards would be awarded to the person with the most demos in one month or the person that generated the most sales in a month.
The idea to launch more products should be introduced after the company has seen a success with implementing change, At this stage a new filtration system should be introduced to stores as well as other countries. Hopefully with the success of other changes this new product would be successful as well. Setting a goal of having ten of these items leave the shelves in a month would be the start. With a steady increase to the goal on a monthly basis, weekly meetings will still be help and weekly voting on the addition of change leaders and empowered employees would continue to take place. The ability to keep change leaders fresh and vibrant is a benefit to the company. The last step is to take all of the practices during this process and make them procedures. The continual support of all employees and managers are needed. Kotter states that for any change to be sustained, it needs to become embedded in the new way.

You have to work hard to change an organization successfully. When you plan carefully and build the proper foundation, implementing change can be much easier, and you'll improve the chances of success. If you're too impatient, and if you expect too many results too soon, your plans for change are more likely to fail.
Create a sense of urgency, recruit powerful change leaders, build a vision and effectively communicate it, remove obstacles, create quick wins, and build on your momentum. If you do these things, you can help make the change part of your organizational culture. That's when you can declare a true victory. then sit back and enjoy the change that you envisioned so long ago.

Positive Behavior Change Research Paper

...What is my positive behavior change? My main positive behavior change is learning to stop biting my nails. I’ve been biting my nails for a very long time and I haven’t really had any infections or anything of that sort. My grandmother has been telling to stop biting my nails ever since I was about seven years old and still haven’t stopped. Soon, as she sees me bite my nails she says, “I’ve been telling you stop and just won’t stop doing it”. Now that I’m older I felt it was time for change and why not stop the bad habit I been doing for ten plus years. I researched about nail biting and seen there’s more harm than good from doing it. To accomplish my goal of stopping I must stay positive and mentally focused on the task at hand. My secondary...

...Lessons What would you give for another chance at life? What do we consider changes? Well for some will give up what they have worked so hard for; their entire life, while others would give up the bare minimum for it. If anyone wants to improve their life, then they must learn how to change and adapt to their new surroundings. When we think about changes, we usually think about taking something negative and turning it into something positive. With every lesson learned there must be a price to pay in order for that improvement to happen. In the novel Life’s Golden Ticket by Brendon Burchard, the protagonist learns how to change his life, to put him on the right path. Dwelling on the past negative events of the past only made it hard to move on, but prevent him from moving on presently. This is an important lesson that the protagonist learns, but he also needs to learn about going forward with a positive attitude, and I will teach him this lesson through my attraction of the rollercoaster. When someone is being a negative person, they are opposed to changes. In the beginning of the novel, the protagonist starts out closed minded with a negative attitude. The protagonist already decided that the world is a dark and dangerous place, other people are unfair and hurtful, and you yourself are inadequate. He was living his life in a dark and as a puppet to society. He would come home from work in misery, sensor out his fiancé, and added a disclosure sign to his life. In chapter 10...

Significant Events

...Significant Events Intro to Psychology 8/25/2012 One significant event that changed my life before I reached adulthood was my grandmother passing away. My grandmothers passing definitely played a life-shaping effect on my life. My grandmother passing was something that was very unexpected and shocking. This was something that no one in the family expected and left a lasting impression on me and my siblings. The reason my grandmothers passing was so significant event was that before her passing I was heading down a bad path in life and associating with negative factors. While in last days before her passing speaking with her and promising to change my life was something that has molded me into the person I am today. Now as I think back on the event, I believe this event to be the most accurate memory that I have from my past. But the more I think about it and try to relive the memory the more I find myself questioning the details of the event. When I first thought about the memory years later I recalled the conversation that we have happening in the evening, when in actuality our conversation took place in the morning during visitation hours. I also believed that I was the only person in the room during our conversation when truth is that my two cousins were also there. Even though these details I believed to be true were false, the actual conversation between my grandmother and I, I remember clear. I actually can recall the conversation word for word with tone...

...Week 1 Discussion Question Assumptions about technology driving the new skill set. What are the assumptions about technology driving the new skill set? (i.e. – all things are wired – will this really happen?) 03/21/16: In my opinion, using technology in the workplace and educating employees on technology can have positive impacts on their job. Technology can help move a company forward by enabling the organization to run smoothly and efficiently. In order for positive impact to work, employees must be open to adapting to new skills and understanding the value the skills will add as they become more proficient in the areas outlined in the map of skills. I feel that organizations should offer mandatory training in an effort to further increase the employee’s knowledge of the product or service the business provides. As the organization continues to grow and advance in the area of technology, through mandatory training sessions and/or workshops, the employee will also be able to grasp the technological advances. Although there are several positive assumptions, there are some negative impacts as well. Some employees are reluctant to change. Also, some employees are technologically challenged, and it is difficult for them to grasp new skills and other forms of technology. Even if training programs are offered to employees, some may prefer old-fashioned methods of technology. Improving employee’s skill set in the area of technology might force certain individuals...

According to Robbins & Judges Organizational Behavior

...Behavior, people resist change because of habit; the need for security; economic factors; fear of the unknown and selective information processing. Individuals rely on habits to cope with life problems. When threatened with change it becomes a source of conflict. People who need a feeling of security feel less safe when change occurs. When job obligations or habits are changed people fear they cannot perform the new duties as well. This particularly worries them if their pay rate is connected to the amount they produce. People are naturally fearful of things they have not experienced. Individuals hear what they want to hear and disregard information that challenges the niche they have created for themselves. Organizational sources resist change because of structural inertia; their limited focus of change; group inertia; threat to expertise and the threat to established power relationships. Organizations have built in methods such as selection strategies and official directives to keep the organization steady during change. Changes in subsystems are prevented by the larger system. The group may prevent changes from occurring even if some members want it. The proficiency of specific groups may be threatened by change. Power relationships can be threatened when the decision expert is restructured. One of the main examples I can describe was the need for our Respiratory Care Department to change the structure of shifts. The change would have been from...

...The effect of voluntary changes in accounting procedures on earning is also used to test the implications of the theory. Reported changes in accounting procedures are available from two sources: the sample of depreciation switches used by Holthausen and changes reported by accounting trends and techniques. Accounting changes are collected from these sources for the sample companies. Procedure changes are decomposed according to the type of change. This table presents for the full sample 342 changes. There were 242 changes disclosed in the footnotes about changes on effect on earning , but the other 100 cases described the effect of the change as immaterial or not disclosed. These are coded to indicate whether the effect is positive or negative. We had 2 tests to certify the theory, the first one is contingency tests. The contingency tests are replicated using the effect of changes in accounting procedures on earnings available for bonuses as a proxy for discretionary accounting decisions. If the effect of the accounting change on this variable is positive, the change is classified as income-increasing. According to analysis, the results don't support the theory. However, there are several potential explanations of this findings: 1. It is more costly for managers to transfer earnings between periods by changing accounting procedures than by changing accruals, and 2. Changes in accounting procedures affect earnings and the bonus plan lower bound in the current and future years...
