Voodoo is thought to have originated in West Africa. Because of the slave trade between the 16th and 19th century voodoo was brought to America. Practitioners in New Orleans were heavily suppressed because they were forced to conform to roman catholicism. Modern media portrays voodoo as something menacing, but voodoo itself is not a bad thing. It is the practitioner that may use it in a negative way. Believers of voodoo may worship multiple gods depending on the specific part of life you need help in.
