...After reading part 1 of Passing by Mark Haddon I was left with a bunch of questions. For example why is the English so poor in this novel? Mark Haddon is an English novelist, and the writing is very sloppy and all over the place. Also, the main character Christopher John Francis Boone seems to have some sort of disability. Most importantly what happened to the first chapter of this book? Why does it start on chapter 2 and who killed the dog? I want answers to all these questions in order to figure out Christopher’s Identity. This book begins with a boy named Christopher stumbling across a dead dog with a pitchfork in it. Just from reading the first paragraph I could tell that the main character had something different about him. I was trying to understand why this book sounded like a 5th grader wrote it. The next passage with Sioban kind of answered my question as to why the writing is so poor. Sioban is Christopher’s best friend, and she was showing Christopher faces with emotions on them and having Chris tell her what it meant. Christopher was having a lot of difficulty interpreting the emotion Sioban was showing him. This made me believe that Christopher has Asperger Syndrome or something that makes it hard for him to understand body language and other forms of human interaction. The sad part is that I can’t really see a clear identity in Christopher. He doesn’t know how to communicate with people, and that is key to having an identity. He is very socially awkward and...

...‘Without Love’ is a song from the 2007 musical ‘Hairspray’. It is sung by Link Larkin, Tracy Turnblad, Seaweed Stubbs and Penny Pingleton, in Act 2. The song explains the troubles the teens have gone through to find love with each other, as they all come from different worlds, that normally shouldn’t be together, Tracy being a plus size teen, contrasting with Link being a teen actor, and Seaweed being of a race, who wasn’t allowed be with Penny, a Caucasian teen with an overbearing mother. This song fits into the Greek category of Eros. This is the sexual type of love that was often looked down upon by the Ancient Greeks, as being dangerous, irrational and loss of control, which is contradictory of what today’s love is described as, falling...

...Malcolm Evans Professor Schutte ENGL 102 CFA 04 April 2012 Passing I believe when Irene was with Clare in Chicago, they both experienced a dramatic time period in both of their lives. Since Irene’s memory is emotional with sharp remembrance of being humiliated, I think that both, Irene and Clare’s, true identities were exposed. The reason why I’m assuming that happened to them “that time in Chicago” is because they both suffered from an emotional event that caused Irene to have a flashback memory that took place two years prior to her reading the letter, and because of the title and information given on the cover of the book. By Irene looking at four words, she was able to create a sharp image of that moment like it happened the previous day of her reading the letter. The only time a person has a flash back memory is when an unexpected event in a person’s life occurs that has strong emotional associations, such as fear, horror, or joy (233 Ciccarelli). With that being said, Clare could also be talking about the time when she and Irene saw her father being brought in after dying in a saloon-fight. With them experiencing an unexpected emotional event like that in both of their lives at a young age, it makes that situation hard to forget. “Seen across the long stretch of years, the thing had more the appearance of an outpouring of pent-up fury than of an overflow of grief for her dead father (2 Larsen). I think with Clare having ivory skin, a scarlet mouth, and a green...

...by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and colour of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake.Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every colour and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene. One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days, weeks and months passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch,...

...everyone started to develop as the recording of the film came through; the acting skills, leadership and teamwork. This was some of the features you could see during one of our recordings. For my personal development I could see some very positive things during the recording. At the start I had the idea of doing a comedy, but I missed one lesson and my teammates changed the whole idea of the subject. I needed to give up for my idea, this is something I really don’t like to do, but I did it for my team. After the first recording I realised that it was a really easy paper to play and a good story. Throughout the recordings I felt that my drama skills got better in some ways. For example there was a scene were there were a lot f small children passing by and we needed to speak really loudly for the camera to hear us. It was an opportunity to project my level of voice; this was something I never had a chance to do before. I think that a good teamwork is something very difficult to gain, especially in a group of people you don’t actually work a lot with. This was a good way of gaining patience and learning what every over teammate had to offer. The ways in which the team was divided was seen very fast; Emilia had the power about organization, doing everything good and quick, Alexa was like the one that helped with everything, recording, doing the script, etc. Alexis and me were...

...As the readers know, Nella Larsen’s Passing took an abrupt ending. It left the audience in an array and struggling to figure out the “5-W’s”. Who pushed Clare or who let her jump? What lead to the peak of this tragedy? Did this happen when Irene blacked out? How did this happen? However, obvious reasons reveal the why of this tragedy. From my interpretation and evaluation, I have come to the conclusion that Irene pushed Clare out of the window. Irene despised that Clare was successful in passing, had such a dominating influence on her, and Irene believed she committed adultery with her husband. All of which gives motive for Irene to murder Clare. Clare was determined to have a progressive life as a white woman. She was the definition of a successful Negro who thrived through passing. Unlike Irene, Clare was married to a white man and disguised herself as white their entire marriage. She was able to pass as white with and without her husband. As for Irene, she married a Negro man, and was not fortunate to experience passing with her husband. Irene also had black sons, and had to live with the constant fact that her children would endure discrimination because of their skin color. Not only was Irene jealous of Clare’s...

...In Passing by Nella Larsen , the author’s overall purpose is to discuss. Jealousy ,Betrayal , and Envy. Ultimately she asserts that when someone is jealous of another person they envy what others have which leads to hatred and betrayal in their relationship. She does this by using Conflict ,Characterization , and Irony. She does this while discussing John knowing Clare was Black, and Irene pushing Clare out the window . Irene jealous of Clare talking to Brian and flirting with a bunch of guys including Brian during the Christmas party builds the theme of Jealousy. Irene says , " It was like a live thing pressing against her. In a quick furtive glance she saw Clare clinging to Brian's other arm. She was looking at him with that provocative...

...Failures POS/355 August 26, 2013 UOPX Failures Distributed systems emerged recently in the world of computers. A distributed system is an application of independent computers that appear to work as a coherent system to its users. The advantages of distributed systems consist of developing the ability to continually to open interactions with other components to accommodate a number of computers and users. Thus, stating that a stand-alone system is not as powerful as a distributed system that has the combined capabilities of distributed components. This type of system does have its complications and is difficult to maintain complex interactions continual between running components. Problems do arise because distributed systems are not without its failures. Four types of failures will characterize and the solutions to two of these failures will address on how to fix such problems. Before constructing a distributed system reliable one must consider fault tolerance, availability, reliability, scalability, performance, and security. Fault tolerance means that the system continues to operate in the event of internal or external system failure to prevent data loss or other issues. Availability needed to restore operations to resume procedure with components has failed to perform. For the system to run over a long period without any errors is need and known as reliability. To remain scalable means to operate correctly on a large scale. Performance and security remains needed...

...A person's sense of identity is crucial in their well-being, shaping their behavior and their overall content state of life. Nella Larsen’s Passing clearly depicts the main character, Irene’s, struggle with her identity. Thereby, Irene continually allows Clare Kendry, a girl from her past, to affect her, despite the several occasions when Irene claimed she was finished with Clare Kendry. Irene Redfield relies on Clare Kendry to maintain her sense of her own identity because she used Clare as a foundation. If Clare Kendry no longer continues to pass as a white woman, she will be just like Irene, potentially causing her to lose everything important to her. These important factors include her family and her social status. Further proving, Irene Redfield is an incredibly unstable character, for her own sense of sanity, she needs Clare Kendry to continue to pass to help her maintain her own sense of identity. Before Clare and Irene reunite at the Drayton, they had a civil relationship during their childhoods before Clare drifted apart from her old community after her father’s passing. After lunch, Clare becomes desperate to see Irene again and continues to assert her presence in not only Irene’s life, but her family, and her social life. Clare’s authors a letter to Irene at the beginning of the novel, shortly after their...

...usage of off-the-shelf hardware, dramatically reducing the cost for creating what can be supercomputer performance, at least for tasks that work well with clusters. Beowulf clusters work best for computational tasks that can be divided into relatively independent pieces. For example, a lot of weather prediction and graphics ray-tracing for movie special effects fit well into Beowulf-style clusters. One of the neat things about the clusters is that the software can work on older PCs, turning boxes relegated to boat anchors and door stops into computation engines. Beowulf, though, isn't just one software package. There are several packages you can install to make up parts of a Beowulf cluster such as Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM), Message Passing Interface (MPI), or, Local Area Multicomputer MPI (LAM/MPI). Different sites will require different packages and configurations. This complexity has given rise to a number of commercial solutions. On top of the open-source Beowulf software, Scyld adds simplified integration and installation, improved administration, commercial support, and...

...Grid computing Modern society as a large-scale scientific and engineering computing need, forcing the computer must constantly improve its computing speed and storage capacity. History has shown that development of the computer, in order to achieve better processing performance, in addition to improve the speed of the hardware, the system must continue to improve the structure, especially when the components of the speed limit, which will become the focus of . Thus, the super parallel computer has become the master of complex scientific computing. However, the super computer-centric computing model has obvious deficiencies, and is currently being subjected to challenge. Although it is a super computer processing power of the "giant", but its cost is extremely expensive and usually only a few state-level sectors such as aerospace, military, meteorological and other departments have the ability to configure such a device. And as people encounter in their daily work more and more complex business computing, there is an urgent need for data-processing capabilities more powerful computers, while the price of supercomputers clearly prevented it from entering areas of work of ordinary people. So, people started looking for a low cost and superior data processing capability computing model, scientists have been trying to find the ultimate answer - Grid Computing (Grid computing). Grid is an integrated computing environment and resources, or a pool of computing resources. Grid is an...
