...Have you ever looked in an aquarium and seen a bright green plant that made the aquarium look very pretty? Don’t let this plants pretty color fool you; it is an invasive species in the wrong habitat. An invasive species is essentially an invasion altogether. In terms of ecology an invasive species is when either a plant or animal is introduced to a different area from their natural habitat and cause environmental or economical harm. Giving this definition I will discuss Caulerpa Taxifolia. Caulerpa Taxifolia is a macro algae invader that is a multicellular plant native to warm saltwater. It is one of the most invasive green alga in the seas. It is considered invasive because it has the ability to spread over large areas in the ocean while forming dense mats, causing ecological and economic issues such destroying sea weed, sea grasses, fishes, commercial fishing, boating. Caulerpa is a salt-water plant with structures that look jut like roots, stems and leaves. The roots of Caulerpa are called rhizoids, which grow into the ocean floor to absorb water and nutrients. Caulerpa have leaf like structures that stick up called fronds, which are a bright green color and are photosynthetic. The stems of Caulerpa are called stolon, which grow above the ocean floor; the stolon when fragmented grows a new Caulerpa plant. Its normal habitat is in tropical waters around the world such as the Indian Ocean. Caulerpa taxifolia is not invasive in its native habitat and reproduces sexually. Grazing...

...Cajun Thanksgiving There's Thanksgiving, and then there's a Cajun Thanksgiving, which means a table spread of almost ludicrous proportions - at least two meats, not necessarily including generous chunks of boudin and andouille; seafood gumbo; sweet and white potatoes; dirty rice; macaroni and cheese; cornbread; Spinach Madeleine; green beans; something with eggplant; pies and cakes; and coffee and tea and maybe a little rum punch to launch the meal. Yes, like the Pilgrims, Acadians, as they were known before the British drove them out of Nova Scotia's Acadian province and into Louisiana swamps, are annually thankful for their survival, and the bounty nature provided them in their new Low Country home. They had rice, wild turkeys, crawfish, shrimp and alligator, and they found...

...networks, radio, websites on the internet, music and film. Another type of medium is “outdoor media” which comprises of billboards, signs, advertisements on planes, buses, trains, and cars. Mass media have the ability to influence the way people think. Although it may not be true, many people don't do their research and end up believing what their told. Major news networks such as MSNBC, Fox News, and CNN tend to be either left or right wing. Left-wing politics are “political positions or activities that accept or support social equality, often in opposition to social hierarchy and social inequality” (1). Right-wing politics “are political positions or activities that accept or support social hierarchy or social inequality” (2), and is pretty much the opposite of left-wing. Many news networks tend to spew out government propaganda. Propaganda is defined as “information, esp. of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or Rahim 2 publicize a particular political cause or point of view” (3). However, there is such a thing as good propaganda but most people tend to view it as a negative thing. During the 20th century, countries at war would use radio, television, posters and other means to “define the enemy”, often passing off a dehumanizing effect. Consequences of war such as shortages could help gain support for military action (4). Even today, propaganda is used to shape opinions about other countries and the “enemy.” A modern day example of government propaganda...

...this paper I felt these ideologies and feelings were better left in the past. However, I now understand these experiences shape my current beliefs and will affect my identity as a counselor. Therefore I must address these experiences and deal with them emotionally. As I relive these moments I will correlate my development with the research of the following theorist: Piaget, Erikson, and Seltzer. By showing correlation of my development with their theories I will prove many of experiences as an adolescence were typical of an American teenager. Looking into the mirror I was frustrated. Why isn’t my hair pretty? Other girls wear their hair straight. Why did mine always have to be braided? Why couldn’t I have a relaxer to smooth out my curls? I shook my head in frustration and began to look for the hot comb. On my first day of middle school I was going to look pretty like everyone else. I was going to have my hair straight and laid to the side. My mother usually kept the hot comb under the kitchen sink along with the straightening grease and heat tester cloth. All these tools would help me achieve my sleek look. I carefully turned on an eye of the stove, placed the hot comb on the eye and waited. When I saw smoke arise from the comb, I took the comb off and placed it on the white cloth. If the cloth turned brown it was to hot. If it made no mark it was ready for my tresses. On this...

...to survive in. Their dreams seem foreshadow to upcoming chapters of the novel. The bad dreams represent that they are still accepting reality and good dreams are a sign of distraction and destruction. The boy and the man have a conversation showing that they still have a small piece of privacy left to themselves. "You have stories inside that I don't know about." He said "You mean like dreams?" The man questioned. The boy confirms, "Like dreams." The boy and the man are all each other has and and they pretty much share one life together. The dreams seem to be the only thing they can have for themselves now. But at other times, the dreams show the things they fear in the world they live in and the fact that the things they want most in life will never come to them. Overall just showing that they still have humanity in this post apocalyptic and cruel world by having the emotions to feel the pain and the joy of having dreams. “In dreams his pale bride came in and out of a green leaf canopy.”(18). The book is describing one of the man's good dreams, but then, continues to describe how the only thing the man got out of them was the fact that good dreams are bad and they are a sign of giving up. The man has a relationship of somewhat distrust with the good dreams. “He said the right dreams for a man in peril were dreams of peril and all else was the call of languor and of death”(19). The bad dreams don’t seem to be too big of a deal to the man when the boy tells him he’s has had them...

...“It's delightful when your imaginations come true, isn't it?”(M. Montgomery, 15). Anne of Green Gables written by Lucy Maud Montgomery is a novel which focuses on the theme of conflict between imagination and social expectations. Montgomery represents her passionate sense of creativity and imagination through the unique yet queer character of Anne Shirley whom is present in a series of her novels. Montgomery develops this character in her written work by making many connections and similarities relative to significant memories of her own childhood. As a Canadian author, Montgomery uses a variety of Canadian landmarks in her writing which contributed greatly to Canadian literature. It has also been recognized that a wide collection of writing devices are used within the author’s work to enhance the development of the novel. The theme of this novel presents significance to the character of Anne whom continuously struggles to subside her unique imagination and submit to social expectations. There are endless examples within Anne of Green Gables that demonstrate the similarities between herself and the beloved character of Anne. To conclude, the character of Anne Shirley is merely a reflection of Montgomery herself. A Canadian with roots in Scotland, Lucy M. Montgomery was a regional romantic novelist best known for Anne of Green Gables (1908)( Castriota, Lucy). Montgomery was born in 1874 in PEI where she was raised by her maternal grandparents after her mother passed away due...

...REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURES (RRL) Literature About the Malunggay Leaves Extract Against Staphylococcus Aureus Staphylococcus is a group of bacteria that can cause a number of diseases as a result of infection of various tissues of the body. Staphylococcus is more familiarly known as Staph (pronounced "staff"). Staph-related illness can range from mild and requiring no treatment to severe and potentially fatal. The name Staphylococcus comes from the Greek staphyle, meaning a bunch of grapes, andkokkos, meaning berry, and that is what Staph bacteria look like under the microscope, like a bunch of grapes or little round berries. (In technical terms, these are gram-positive, facultative anaerobic, usually unencapsulated cocci.) Over 30 different types of Staphylococci can infect humans, but most infections are caused byStaphylococcus aureus. Staphylococci can be found normally in the nose and on the skin (and less commonly in other locations) of 25%-30% of healthy adults. In the majority of cases, the bacteria do not cause disease. However, damage to the skin or other injury may allow the bacteria to overcome the natural protective mechanisms of the body, leading to infection. And one of the cures for staphylococcus aureus is vitamin c which is found in malunggay. Called "Malunggay" in the Philippines, "Sajina" in the Indian Subcontinent, and "Moringa" in English, it is a popular tree. Many Asians use the leaves of Malunggay (Sajina) like spinach and also the fruit...

...transportation vehicle for everyday use and can be recharged overnight. Why electric car India has millions of people to house, power grids to expand and factories to fuel. They all involve hydrocarbons. How, then, is a developing economy to grow sustainably? One answer may lie in a small electric car. The advantages of electric cars are multiple and compelling. Instant torque for good initial acceleration, quiet operation, low local pollution, and ease of operation (Reva -a car with automatic gear shift)are among their many compelling virtues. The principal advantage for everyone in adopting electric cars is virtually eliminating urban air pollution. The civil advantages of electrics were recognized early. Thomas Edison created a pretty good nickel-iron battery a hundred years ago, and his good friend Henry Ford was on record as planning to make inexpensive and practical electric cars as early as 1915. It didn’t happen because the Edison battery was not quite good enough to allow electrics to prevail over the clear advantages of gasoline engines then. Today’s battery technology is vastly better, and advancing rapidly. A wide variety of efficient, lightweight electric...

...There is massive amounts of waste being thrown into landfills, much of what can be recycled or composted. Landfills are running out of space. Statistics show that ninety percent of waste in landfills was deposited there in the mid 1980’s. (Master Composter) In 1989 Americans disposed of 3.5 pounds of solid waste per day. (Master Composter) Estimates show that every Sunday, more than 500,000 trees are used to produce eighty eight percent of newspapers, much which is not recycled. (Master Composter) Estimates show that American’s throw away enough office paper to build a twelve foot high wall from Los Angeles, California to New York City. (Master Composter) 2.5 million plastics bottles per hour are used by Americans in which only a small percentage is recycled. (Master Composter) There is enough iron and steel thrown out to supply all of America’s auto markets and enough aluminum to rebuild the entire air fleet every three months. (Master Composter) Americans dispose 24 million tons of leaves and grass clippings every way, which by the way can be composted. (Master Composter) Much of this space taken up could be limited if everyone would just recycle what can be recycled and compost what can be composted. Composting in Vermont is making substantial headway since the passing of the Universal Recycling Law which calls for all food scraps to be out of trash by July, 1, 2020. Many companies have already started to compost to adhere to new regulations put into place. Wayside restaurant...
