...Problems Facing Human Service Clients and How They Are Helped Amanda Blue BSHS/305 February 23, 2015 Joanne Schrock Problems Facing Human Service Clients and How They Are Helped There are many problems in the world today that human service clients are faced with, and are not limited to just a few. There is no one person with one single problem which is shy it is so important that the “whole person” is helped. Some of the problems that plague clients today are innumerable, but I will attempt to elaborate on a few. Human Service workers ensure that children live in safe homes and have their basic needs met. Helping parents to take care of their children may include in assisting with applications for food stamps or low-income housing and helping them to locate appropriate childcare. Housing or the lack of housing is one of the issues facing Human Service clients today. Many people are without homes for various reasons, such as not having money to pay, which means they are jobless, or not making enough to cover their living expenses. A client that is homeless can be faced with many other issues simply because they have no place to live. Another challenge for Human Service clients is depression. Depression can come about when a client is not able to adequately live with the necessities of life and seem to have no means in which to acquire them. When a client cannot provide for him or herself, it is detrimental to their well-being and may bring on a bout of depression...

...and as service providers it is our responsibility to change and adapt. As we move forward in life we increase our knowledge and available resources. Technology is constantly changing as well, giving us many tools to work with. In the last decade technology has given us a boost in communications with: text messaging, emails, instant messenger and all the social media venues such as Instagram, Twitter, Myspace, and Facebook. With the use of social media, people have become more comfortable talking about what is going on in their lives. This has led to a more productive environment in some cases. In the last twenty years we have seen social movements that have brought on a rights-based approach to health care. The implementation of HIPPA laws to protect the client’s personal information. The concern for privacy while maintaining the most open flow of communication with a client has become priority. The Affordable Health Care Act has caused quite a stir amongst the people of the United States. Most people don’t understand what it means for them, leading to the need for someone to explain it. With the ever changing population, the Affordable Health Care Act was used to help regulate and make available health care to those that weren’t covered before, same sex partner, dependent children over 18, people with pre-existing conditions and expanding the coverage of state funded insurance. Also the Affordable Health Care Act removed the annual and life time limits for clients. With...

...Client Paper Rebecca Jenkins Barbara Kennedy BSHS/305 07/19/2015 The range of problems facing human service clients is multi-faceted. No one person has just one problem, and there are plenty of clients to go around (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2011). I believe this point is well articulated by Neil Headman, assistant professor of human services at the University of Illinois at Springfield (2011), who stated “It does not matter who your client is, everyone needs help” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2011). Different client problems appear for different reasons and there are various theories used to identify the client’s problems. No one is exempt from problems, this much is a given. Problems are a part of the everyday life, for everyday persons that may wind up unknowingly dealing with them. Individuals have different problems and handle them differently depending on their severity. This is important to understand when a human service worker is working with clients. Being a human service professional there are different skills that can be used while working with clients, in order to help the client effectively. Problems usually indicate something exists that is causing the client to experience trouble or discomfort. (Woodside, 2011) The professional must solve the problem with a positive approach. The client can face a range of different problems. They can be faced with a difficult situation or event that has taken place or a physical condition. Some problems...

According to Chmielewski (2014), “Ethical thinking involves the intricate process used to consider the impact of our actions on the individuals or institution we serve and values involve emotion, knowledge, thought, and ultimately choice of response” (The importance of values and ethical decision making ). Developing values and making ethical decisions is a life changing skill that can help with advancement in a professional career such as human services. These skills are used to deal with ethical dilemmas, critical thinking, and the decision making process. The development of personal values, ethical standards will be discussed based on the human services profession. As well as discussing an ethical dilemma in relation to the ethical stand of human service professionals; experiencing little to no difficulty based on my personal belief system. Furthermore, discuss conflicts or discordance between ethical practice and personal values. I have been in the human services field for the past 6 years and I must say, I was not aware of my values and was never faced with a dilemma that caused me to make an ethical decision. ...Helping and How to do it Rebecca Harshman BSHS305 Rachel Ritchie For this paper in particular we will be discussing the things problems that are faced by human services clients. In contrast, we will also discuss the coping skills that are offered to them to help them address the problems that they face. I think one of the first things that the clients can face is even finding the services within their community to help them with the issues that they are facing. Whether the issue is that the only places near them do not accept their insurance or there is no place local to them. Sometimes there are places that will accept people with low-income and no insurance but it is dependent on whether or not they have received any government funding or community aid to assist with the mental health needs of those local to them. As budgets change, this too can change and cause some to lose the help that they have finally had the strength to try and get. Other issues that could be occurring could be related to the stigma that is often associated with a large number of mental health issues, this might even keep some from seeking much needed assistance. Many people think that people with mental health issues, whether it is depression, bipolar, anxiety, or even Attention Deficit Disorder, claim that these individuals are just lazy and trying to avoid doing what people should be doing, they do not understand that these individuals sometimes struggle just to make it through what...

...Client Paper Client Problems The human services field is comprised of many career choices from doctors to social workers and even volunteers. Those who enter this field are called helpers and they have a goal of helping others by working with them to solve their personal problems. These problems can be numerous or few, they could be problems resulting other problems, or they could be the result of becoming a victim in unfortunate circumstances. The problems that will be outlined in this paper are as follows: Developmental, Situational, Meeting Human Needs, Societal Change, and Environmental Influences. When thinking about the range of problems clients may be dealing with their are many, one such type of problem may be developmental. Humans are constantly developing beginning from the moment they are an embryo implanted in their mother's womb to the time they take their last breath. There are many things associated with the development humans go through and many influences in their surrounding environment. Then there are normal human changes that everyone goes through, such things like puberty may be a traumatic experience for a client even though it is not traumatic for most. The best way to put this into words is " Although everyone goes through the same developmental stages, individuals experience these stages in different ways." (Woodside & McClam, 2011). Another type of problem being faced by the client may be situational. Problems that may be considered situational...

...Introduction The primary objective of social work is to improve the living conditions of human beings by helping meet basic human needs, especially for those who are living in poverty and oppressed (NASW, 2008). As a way to end these forms of injustice, interventions used by social workers become ethically complicated as they involve aspects of social control and change vis-a-vis less powerful clients (Osmo & Landau, 2006). Ethics deals with the rightness or wrongness of human actions (Dolgoff, Harrington & Loewenberg, 2012) and ethical complications occur when we consider the general societal context and that of the agency as well as social workers professional and personal values (Osmo & Landau, 2006). Ethical complications become ethical dilemmas for social workers when a predicament occurs in situations in which the social worker must choose between two or more relevant, but contradictory ethical directives or when every alternative result in an undesirable outcome for one or more persons (Dolgoff et al, 2012)....

...redistributing funds to the poor and provide fairness to all (Delong, 2006, p. 3). Infosys worked in the information technology (IT) market via several strategies, body-shopping and offshoring; however; it turned out creating problems than the company planned for which caused a chain reaction of more problems before management finally realized they “fell from grace” (Delong, 2006, p. 10). Therefore, the following paragraphs summarize and analyze Infosys (A): Strategic Human Resource Management written by Delong, Tandon, and Rengaswamy as it relates to Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM). Case Analysis When Infosys first opened its doors, their strategy known as bodyshop was increasing their labor costs due to the U.S. government limiting distribution on B1 Visas per year. Body shopping is a form of outsourcing in which Infosys recruits IT students straight out of college, place them with clients on project-based assignments until completion (Delong, 2006). Once completed workers are either placed on another project or benched to wait for a new assignment (Darwish, et al., 2010). This is similar to what we, as Americans call sub-contract or contract work; it is done to harness the benefit of low labor cost. During the 80s the company faced another issue; here in the United States some Americans take it for granted – freedom. Infosys did not have any freedom; the company had to face the bureaucratic government to obtain a computer, a telephone line, permission to...

...Problems Clients are Facing Brittney V. Ards BSHS/305 Historical Development of Human Services: An Introduction January 11, 2015 Instructor Tarshis As human beings, we all have some sort of issue or problem but have you ever thought how some problems may affect people. Individuals, groups and communities are facing a wide range of problems and some surely go unnoticed. “Problems for clients are rarely single issues,” (Marianne Woodside, An Introduction to Human Services, 2012) and depending on how many actual problems there are some may go unnoticed. A few of the problems client may face are but definitely not limited to, developmental theory, situational perspective, meeting human needs, both physical and psychological, social change, and environmental influences. Human service professionals are skilled to notice the problems clients are facing and use those problems to set obtainable goals for each client they see. When a client comes in only seeking housing, a qualified helper will recognize the client definitely realizes there are more underline issues. Several underline issues could include the client being unemployed, or maybe the client has children and can’t afford child care. The developmental theory is the process in which humans develop and the stages of life we all will encounter during our life span. Erik H. Erikson major contribution was his “eight stages of man” (Marianne Woodside, Chapter 5: The Client, 2012). Erikson’s eight stages all go hand in hand...
