...School Uniforms: The Pros and Cons in schools (Final Paper) ChaMyra Lewis-Jackson ENG 122 English Composition II Mr. Brandon Bond December 23, 2014 School Uniforms: The Pros and Cons in schools In our country many concerns and issues about safety in our schools have caused a big disturbance which have led school districts to require uniforms for their students. Long ago, some parents seem against or incapable of singling out the "clothes" line with their children, to the point where the new trending styles took a toll and started influencing the kids' attire decisions in a big way. The safety of the students and environment which was surrounded by gang violence and other concerning distractions became an important matter for a lot of individuals within the school districts. School uniforms and dress codes can play a significant role in the drastic change with student in a learning environment (Boutelle, 2008). That’s why school uniforms should be implemented as a policy for students in different districts, because many reports have shown after enforcing this policy students showed a dramatic improvement in their academics, attendance and behavior. Most advocates imply that if all students are required to wear uniforms would give the students an opportunity to find a sense of unity and equality with one another which will help with the confidence of some that didn’t feel like they belonged. Uniforms would also diminish bullying and give students a better frame of mind...

...Introduction to Decision Making Methods János Fülöp Laboratory of Operations Research and Decision Systems, Computer and Automation Institute, Hungarian Academy of Sciences 1. Decision Making Process “Decision making is the study of identifying and choosing alternatives based on the values and preferences of the decision maker. Making a decision implies that there are alternative choices to be considered, and in such a case we want not only to identify as many of these alternatives as possible but to choose the one that best fits with our goals, objectives, desires, values, and so on.” (Harris (1980)) According to Baker et al. (2001), decision making should start with the identification of the decision maker(s) and stakeholder(s) in the decision, reducing the possible disagreement about problem definition, requirements, goals and criteria. Then, a general decision making process can be divided into the following steps: Step 1. Define the problem “This process must, as a minimum, identify root causes, limiting assumptions, system and organizational boundaries and interfaces, and any stakeholder issues. The goal is to express the issue in a clear, one-sentence problem statement that describes both the initial conditions and the desired conditions.” Of course, the one-sentence limit is often exceeded in the practice in case of complex decision problems. The problem statement must however be a concise and unambiguous written material agreed by all decision makers and stakeholders...

...Retiring Outside of the United States The service that I have chosen to discuss is the process of assisting people who are preparing for retirement to do so outside of the United States. What I will essentially be marketing is the countries themselves as a retirement destination for Americans that wish to retire outside of the United States. This service would have a primary location in the United States with satellite offices located in the capital cities of each country. This idea was inspired when I when I came across an article on Costa Rica and how it used to be a destination for retirees. Costa Rica was the first country to make a concerted effort to attract foreign retirees with a program of special benefits. Its pensionado program was responsible for bringing tens of thousands of foreign retirees, mostly Americans, to the country in the 1980s and 1990s. While the pensionado visa is still available in Costa Rica, many of the tax breaks and other special perks it once offerened have been discontinued. Costa Rica has also become expensive, both as a place to live and a place to own a home. For these reasons, while Costa Rica is perhaps the world’s best-known overseas retirement haven, it no longer qualifies as one of the best. This led me to search for countries that would fit the needs of those looking to retire outside of the United States. I am happy to report that I found the three countries of Belize, Panama, and Malaysia which more than fit the requirements...

...The Sources of International Law Article 38 of theStatute of the International Court of Justice, considered by someas the "Bible of the Poor" of those who seek quick answers despite of the com-plexity of international relations, constitutes nevertheless a good starting point forthe understanding of the sources of international law. According to this article, international law finds its origin in the following three sources:- international conventions of general or particular nature;- international custom, as evidence of a general practice accepted as law;- the general principles of law recognized by civilized nations. The International Court of Justice in The Hague, Netherlands. Most international law experts would rush to add the "unilateral acts" to thesethree sources of law and to declare that Article 38 of the Statute has omitted tomention these unilateral acts for which the United Nations'International LawCommission (ILC)has elaboratedGuiding Principlesin 2006. Contrary to thisopinion, other international lawyers would maintain that these unilateral actsconstitute specific expressions of the will of States leading eventually to agree- 6 ments which are then governed by the rules applicable to international conven-tions.Finally, the idea of justice and equity originating in the philosophy of natural lawis not to be discarded as a source of international law, since it is the opinion oftheInternational Court of Justiceitself that whatever the legal argumentation ofthe...

...Trust In Semantic Web Muhammad Arslan Shafiq (081212) Department of Computer Science SZABIST Islamabad, Pakistan _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ Abstract—Trust management is important in semantic web in order to achieve the goals of semantic web vision. In this paper two approaches of implementing trust have been discussed. One approach is strong and secure i.e. Policy based systems, the other approach is more of a social approach which takes feedback from the users in order to build and maintain trust. Also discussed in this paper are pros and cons of both the techniques. Keywords-component; semantic web;Trust; Policy Based Systen; Reputation Based Sytems Introduction The idea behind semantic web seems great and offers a lot but why one should trust in semantic web. Who would trust such a system where anyone can say anything. We say that it is going to be a smart web, it will be intelligent and it will know the semantics. It will know what we are looking for. But what happens when a person says that x is yellow and another person says x is not yellow. Would semantic web fall apart? The idea behind SW is its authenticity of information which isn’t available in today’s web. Information comes from different sources which could be wrong or write and for a specific situation. So how are we going to determine which is reliable and whom should we believe? To tackle these...

...“Assess the merits and demerits of international licensing as a mode of entry into new markets” Disney does not have to produce t-shirts, USB sticks and even waffles with Mickey Mouse’s happy face on it. Instead, it can license the right to use its famous character to different companies around the globe and enjoy the hefty royalties, which in 2010 totaled 28.6 billion dollars (Rorie, 2011). Does it then mean that licensing as a mode of entry into foreign markets is the best option available? Not necessarily so. Given a multitude of foreign market entry methods, all of them being used in practice in some contexts, it is crucial to determine under which circumstances licensing will pay off. The decision factors include the specifics of the foreign market; ownership, location and internalization advantages; resources and capabilities; and the general global strategy of a company. This essay will attempt to analyse what kind of environment would be favourable for the introduction of licensing and use this analysis as a context to assess the pros and cons of this mode of foreign market entry. It is useful to start with the detailed definition of the subject matter. According to Daniels, 2003, “under a licensing agreement, a company (the licensor) grants rights to intangible property to another company (the licensee) to use in a specified geographic area for a specified period in exchange for a fee” (called royalty). The “intangible property” might encompass patents, designs...

They were quietly and actively involved during the class discussion and created a pleasant mood. However, during an exam, their voices were loud enough to be heard by me and other students. One female student, C, who sat next me had strongly adverse feelings about their cheating and she wanted us to go to the professor and talk about them together. However, I didn’t because I felt kind of embarrassed reporting the classmates to the professor and did not mind it since it would not have affected my grade anyway. In addition, their voice was loud enough for the whole class to hear, so I guessed that the professor already knew about them and might punish their behavior later. C reported them after the end of...
