The influential factors that bring me to this place in life of pursuing further education here at
Colorado Christian University at this point in my life are many.
First and foremost is that it has been a personal goal of mine to further my education for many years now. I set a personal goal to attain a formal degree by the time I turned the age of 50. I am now in my 50th year of life, so although I might not be successful in accomplishing this goal before my actual birthday, I must say that I am very pleased, encouraged & excited to have at least started this journey before that dreaded number in my life arrives.
It was my initial intention to pursue a degree as RN, and whether it be AA or BS degree made no difference to me, as long as I kept …show more content…
He proceeded to patiently & thoroughly take to his time to discuss my future as a student.
This was a very exciting day for me indeed! As we mapped out the possibilities of my pursuing an RN degree, I found the number of years it would take to accomplish this to be somewhat discouraging and overwhelming. Kevin then educated me on the outline of what it would take to purse my degree in Health Care Administration. When I heard all of the possibilities such a degree, in conjunction with my LPN licensure, could hold for my future I easily shifted mental gears from pursuing my RN to this degree.
And so, this is where I find myself today, this being my second course taken in pursuit of my degree in Health Care Administration here at CCU.
Again, I am so excited and encouraged to be in the academic environment at this time in my life. And I cannot find the words to express how very pleased I am with the core values of the
Vision, the Mission & the Strategic Objectives here at CCU. To not only have the tremendous gift of actively pursuing a degree, but to be in a structured learning environment that is centered around Christ-based values & ethics is such an amazing blessing to my heart, to my life and to my future.
Thank you God!

...Decision to Pursue MBA Degree Dorothy Hall MGT/521-Management August 5, 2010 Professor John Quesnel Decision to Pursue MBA Degree Deciding to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degree is an important decision that should not be taken lightly. The master’s program is challenging and will take time from an individual’s personal life. An MBA can further a career, begin a new career, or fulfill a personal goal. In contemplating whether to obtain an MBA degree, I had to decide what value this degree would afford me. In obtaining this degree, it would further my education and could definitely be an asset to any future career choice that I may undertake when I retire from State Farm Insurance in a couple of years. In constructing and supporting this argument on whether to pursue an MBA, as a choice, I used the Jungian Personality Self-Assessment to foster insight into possible career paths and how other individuals perceive me. The self-assessment of the Jungian personality gives an individual through 16 personality types a better understanding of him or herself. The assessment measures thinking styles of individuals, modes of dealing with information and interactions for potential managers in group settings. My personality type was the INFP result that describes individuals reserved, creative, and highly idealistic with a possible career as an architect, journalist, educational consultant, missionary, actor, artist, and poet. I agreed with some...

Personal Responsibility

...on Personal Responsibility and Academic Success Personal responsibility is important in life, especially while going to college. In order to be a successful student, personal responsibility is essential. It is accepting accountability for one's actions and is vital when pursuing an education. Personal responsibility and college success are dependent upon one another. Personal responsibility is accepting accountability for one’s actions. As personal accountability expert Linda Galindo defines it as, “When you’re personally accountable, you stop assigning blame, “should-ing” on people, and making excuses. Instead, you take the fall when your choices cause problems,” (Galindo, 2010). Personal responsibility is not about blaming others for what has gone wrong. For example, if a student received a bad grade on a project, the student can not blame the teacher for giving the bad grade. The teacher did not do the project, the student did; it was the student’s work. The student would need to accept personal responsibility and accountability for the work, and take it as feed back to work harder to get a better grade. Accepting failure is a part of accepting personal responsibility for what has taken place academically. Referring to data collected, 85 percent of an individual’s success is from steps the individual takes for themselves, rather than 15 percent being from other people (Galindo, 2010). Personal responsibility is important when pursuing...

After discussing my options with my parents, we came to an agreement that I would finish my degree because it would give me a solid foundation with a technical education. The biochemistry curriculum exposes participants to high levels of proficiency in math, logic, and problem solving. Additionally, the curriculum promotes the development to work independently and think creatively about potential solutions. Mba Pursuit

...MBA To some, pursuing higher education is a waste of money and time. Others, such as me, may argue that it is an accomplishment and the benefits from acquiring a degree are worth the efforts and hard work. With the current national unemployment rate at 9.7% (US Department of Labor, Feb 2010) and steadily rising, it seems improbable that finding that “ideal” job is likely. During these tough economic times, I find myself with a bachelor’s degree at a low paying job with a child to take care of. It is because of this situation that I have chosen to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) degree with an emphasis in Accounting; receiving higher education could be the answer to my problem. According to the job outlook by education 2006-16 (Occupational Outlook Quarterly), increased earnings and lower rates of unemployment are trends associated with additional levels of education (Liming & Wolf, 2008). After taking the Jungian 16-Type Personality Self-Assessment test, scoring ISTJ, I found that my results support my decision to pursue my MBA with an emphasis in Accounting. A person scoring ISTJ are found to be organized, compulsive, private, trustworthy, and practical people. Their possible career choices are office manager, accountant, business manager, tax agent, and public servant (Pearson Prentice Hall, 2007). I recognize that I possess these characteristics in regard to my professional and personal lifestyle. I will argue that pursuing and obtaining an...

Arguementative Paper

...trying to convey, is truth. The point that I am arguing is the reason why pursuing my MBA degree is important to me. My goal is important because no one in my family made a decision to go this far with their personal goals. My brother went to college, but he stopped at a BA in Economics, and he is now trying to go to law school to become a lawyer. Which makes the trek of obtaining my Master’s even more important to me. The recognition that I hope to receive when I complete this degree, is important to my personal goal. I want to show my children the importance of diligence and hard work. Diligence to me is the thoroughness that comes with completing your goal from start to finish and receiving that much needed appreciation for the sacrifices that you made while getting there. Pursuing my MBA to me is an accomplishment that I have wanted for quite sometime. One of the first things that I need my MBA for is to start a new career. My second reasoning for wanting my MBA is for the obvious reasons, like stature, better compensation and of course advancement in my future career. Stature in relation to a career is the ability to make lots of money, support my family and to just have enhanced opportunities within my chosen company. How many times as children have we looked up to someone and wanted to be just like them? Personal Respnsibility

...Personal Responsibility GEN/200 November 13, 2001 Instructor - Charlene Beil Personal Responsibility When people undertake an endeavor like attending college, that individual needs to first define their goals. By understanding what they want to achieve they can direct their actions, to the best of their ability, to meet those goals. Personal responsibility is the way in which individuals make their actions match who they believe they are and who they want to become. There are many tools and techniques which can aid students in their college journey and assist them in being personally responsible for their success. A combination of these tools and proper application of them can lead a student to success. For people to gain satisfaction with their life, they must think about whom they are and who they want to become. Individuals need to act in a manner that is consistent with their self-belief. Doing this means you have personal responsibility to be true to the person you believe you are. This motivation to be a successful student must come from within. According to Brecke and Jensen (2007) “Motivation in the classroom, and life in general, must be authentic and therefore related to what students see as interesting and worthwhile.” (pg. 261). When students are pursuing goals that are important and meaningful to them intrinsically, they will be more successful. In order to be successful in college or any endeavor you must first define what success is for you...

...Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Proponents of modern education have touted the necessity to help children build their future apart from imparting skill and knowledge. However, a close examination of methods of education in various educational institutes reveal that the latter has been achieved, but the former is yet to be materialized and thus it requires that educational Institutions strive diligently and help students to identify their successful fields. Today’s educational systems have done a commendable job in opening up students to different fields like science, philosophy, literature, arts etc...But mostly, students choose what they perceive better and a field that can assure them a good job with good remuneration. Very few have sought their passion. Let me illustrate this. In today’s world of computers and with development of information technology, students pursuing studies in IT field and computers have increased exponentially from those eons ago. These concentrations come up due to their promising factors. But are these fields sought by the students with genuine interest? The consequences being job dissatisfaction, unsuccessful careers, frustration and guilt. Finally are we not compromising on the productivity of the nation? To avoid the consequences mentioned above, educational...
