...Running head: ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSE VS BACHELOR OF SCIENCE Associate Degree Nurse vs Bachelor of Science Nurse Associate Degree Nurse vs Bachelor of Science Nurse The nursing profession is unlike other health care professions. It has multiple education levels of entry into the nursing field. Many states have recently started to propose legislation to make registered nurses obtain their bachelor of science in nursing within ten years of becoming licensed registered nurses. This proposed legislation is aware of the associate degree nurses level of education and offers solutions for continued pursuit of furthering their education to the bachelor of science nurse. It is believed with the combination of the associate degree nurse furthering her education to a baccalaureate education, nursing will become a stronger profession and thus improve patient care outcomes and quality of care.(Lane, 2010) North Dakota became the first state to require the bachelor of science be obtained within the first tens years of obtaining the registered license. For many years the nursing leaders have discussed the idea of advancing the nurses education to the bachelor of science degree. North Dakota, New York and New Jersey were the first states to propose legislation for this to occur. North Dakota overturned their legislation and New York and New Jersey did not pass this legislation. According to the ANA many states have passed legislation to mandate required continuing...

...what extent is the knowledge’s perspective essential in the pursuit of knowledge? If we were to see this essay as a voyage, we could say that the knower is the vessel, perspective is the leg of the course and knowledge is the destination. But before departing, it would be wise to understand the phrase ‘the Knower’s Perspective’, as well as, the knowledge question in a deeper level. A knower is a person or a group of individuals, who have acquired facts, information and skills through experience and/or education. Perspective is an evaluation or analysis of something from a specific point of view. The knower’s perspective is how an individual’s mind capacity, education, experiences, etc. influence the use of ways of knowing in the formation of personal knowledge, or knowledge claims. The knower’s perspective contributes to the formation of personal knowledge, but is in turn also influenced by the individual’s personal knowledge, being part of it. However, knowledge can be produced by one or more human beings. “It can also be the work of...

...Brian Schimpf Vehicle Pursuit Tactics Police vehicle pursuits are a very controversial issue amongst regular citizens and law enforcement experts alike because of all the risk that is involved. There are many deaths that can be attributed to dangerous chases that go out of control; unfortunately many victims happen to be innocent bystanders of police officers. Every police department across the country has their own specific rules and protocols that must be strictly followed by their officers regarding when and how to engage in a pursuit. Milwaukee Police Chief Edward A. Flynn, states: "Every pursuit risks the lives of our officers and of innocent members of the public due to the recklessness of those who refuse to stop for the police. I have an obligation to my officers, despite the risks they are willing to take, to limit their risk of injury or death, to make sure that the danger represented by the suspect justifies the risk of violent death. All too often it clearly does not justify that risk." Milwaukee policy indicates that an officer is allowed to engage in a pursuit only if they have probable cause to believe that the occupants of the vehicle have, are or will commit a dangerous felony such as armed robbery, recklessly endangering safety and any other crime against a person in which violence is present; officers may also pursue if “The occupant(s) presents a clear and immediate threat to the safety of others and therefore the necessity of immediate apprehension...

...Abstract This paper will outline the reasons I chose to pursue an MBA. I will construct and support an argument for my pursuit of an MBA. I will support my decision of pursing an MBA with references and data of individuals who have written articles regarding the pursuit of an MBA for African Americans. This paper will include my Jungian results from the 16-Type Personality Insights questionnaire to see if I have the qualifications of a manager. Why I Chose to Pursue an MBA I decided to pursue an MBA to start a new career and to achieve a personal goal. I have a best friend who persuaded me to further my education. She would tell me, “Seles, this world is going to require that individuals who seek employment have a Master’s degree.” I began to think how my goal would be achieved and what university I attend. Wondering and worrying about the cost of this type of education caused me to have many sleepless nights and much stress. My concern was finding the time between allocating times with my six year-old son, working part-time as a volunteer and taking care/assisting my parents who are 70. Also my biggest issue I had was who would hire a recent graduate who is almost 50, African-American single parent of a six year-old son and who have never worked in the corporate world. So I prayed and asked GOD to authorize my pursuit of a Master’s degree. I talked with my advisor Lance Thorsen and he eased my mind and encouraged me to take that leap of faith. I’ve...

...Pursuit of an MBA Pursuit of an MBA Today’s job market seems to be a free for all. There seems to be fewer jobs and millions of people applying. That being said, it seems very important in times like this individuals do all that they can to try and set themselves a part from the next person. Experience is an important factor to do this, but when that is not enough they must turn to school. An associate degree and a bachelor’s degree is sure to set individuals apart from someone with just a high school diploma, but what about those off us that need to be set apart from the others with college degrees. With this my pursuit of an MBA comes to play. In 2003 roughly 1.2 million college students competing with roughly nine million people who are unemployed. Seven years later I am sure these numbers have changed since then, this is a huge reason to why we need to pursue graduate degrees. In my case, I am very lucky to have a job; however it is not what I am looking for. I constantly apply for other jobs and never even receive a call back on anything. I knew if I wanted to change things and eventually provide for my family I was going to need to stand out. I feel going back for my MBA will instantly separate me from the millions of others who have Bachelor’s degrees. I feel with my MBA and with my experience I am sure to catch the attention of employers. Once their attention is caught, I am able to have the chance to sell myself to them and why I am the guy...

...At 52, I have decided to return to a pursuit of higher education. It is not a decision I have taken lightly. I agonized over whether I would have the bandwidth, stamina and focus to achieve what has long eluded me. It is a dual motivation for me. First, after being laid off after a company merger, I found myself less prepared to re-enter the workforce than at any other period in my life. I found the career experience and stability that had served me well the last time I was unemployed at 38, did not get the attention of recruiters and managers who were hiring in the kinds of fields I was accustomed to working. I had already realized a few years prior to the layoff that I had hit a ceiling in my career. Though I had achieved relative...

...Introduction Personal Goals Playing to Your Strengths Building on My Competencies Conclusion School is a tool that allows you to be in control of your success or failure. You must match your pursuit of your degree based upon your strengths and not allow your weakness to hold you back. With goals, interest, and competencies guiding us into career development, I had to ask the hard question, “am I qualified to own a business after getting my Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting?” In the pursuit of our dreams, we have to remember to keep our integrity intact as the college environment will present many opportunities that will force us to choose. Make sure to use every resource and opportunity available. Allow mentoring by instructors, classmates, academic advisors, and people in your field of study that can help guide you to your goal. I had to make the correct decision for me because I was in control of success or failure. Being married with a stepson and working fulltime meant that the traditional college road was not the one for me. The University of Phoenix was the perfect choice for me in pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Accounting. It would allow me to continue to work and get a degree in an online setting. I knew that there were not many opportunities in my area for a career in a large corporation. And while I could work at a local firm, my plan was to own an Accounting firm. A gigantic step I was undertaking but had believed that I could do it. It was that...

...Ain’t…enough! Pursuing an MBA is simply another way of saying, “My Bachelor’s degree just Ain’t enough!” Obtaining a Bachelor’s degree should be considered an amazing accomplishment. However, many have come to the realization that it is, in fact, inadequate. The status of the current economy is a leading indicator that something beyond a Bachelor’s degree is needed. A potential stepping stone beyond a Bachelor’s degree is an MBA, which opens up a great deal of opportunity compared to a Bachelor’s. Many reasons exist for an MBA to be sought out and why a bachelor’s just “Ain’t enough.” Some of the top reasons to pursue an MBA are that a Bachelor’s degree does not provide the potential to make enough money, give the education to be marketable enough, or give enough prestige to the degree holder. A study in the Journal of Marketing for Higher Education led by Lynn Dailey, MBA, PhD, marketing professor at Capital University, Columbus, OH, showed that career advancement, financial security, and elevated social status/prestige (see Table 1) are within the top 5 reasons to pursue an MBA (Dailey 148). Because of the current trend and these economical times, a Bachelor’s degree is just not enough. Pursuing and obtaining an MBA is an excellent way to make more money in the long run, to make one more marketable, and to give one more prestige than with a bachelor’s degree. One of the top reasons heard most for the pursuit of an MBA is for the potential to make more money, basically money in one...

...An Analysis on “Are Too Many People Going to College” Charles Murray’s essay proposes that American colleges are being flooded with individuals who are either unprepared for higher education or who are simply forced into attending college and can’t succeed because of the lack of certain innate abilities. Murray’s essay goes on to take issue with the idea that the pursuit of a traditional college education is somehow strategically creating a separation of the American class system. While Murray makes many salient points with regards to America’s obsession with college education as a standard into a class of the intellectual elite, the essay fails to take into consideration the various motivators that can lead to student success, despite where that student might be on Murray’s ability ladder (Murray Paragraph 13). This essay seeks to analyze Murray’s claims about why the pursuit of a traditional, four-year college education can do more harm than good when it comes to defining success for the individual learner. Rhetorical Analysis The main thesis of Murray’s essay is that the unrealistic pursuit of a college degree, propagates to children at an early age and does more harm than good. Murray claims that many students do not have the ability needed to enjoy and complete a four-year college education (PARAGRAPH 13). Murray further supports his thesis with his reasoning that more people are going to college because they are indoctrinated, regardless of their skilled ability, to pursue...

...The Pursuit of Happiness and Success Angela Morrow MGT/521 May 5, 2010 Donald Wicker “Success is not the key to happiness, “Happiness is the key to success; if you love what you are doing, you will always be successful. (Albert Schwetzer). Happiness is defined as a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure or joy. Success is defined as an event that has accomplished its intended purpose in mind. Happiness and success is what I am aiming for in life. To be able to have a life that is full of happiness is the ultimate achievement and I feel that if I am happy in what I am doing I will truly be successful. In saying that I feel that earning my Masters of Business in Administration degree will enable me to both be happy and successful. About 15 years ago while working for the federally funded program Head Start, My love for children was established and I just knew I wanted to teach, however there was one major road block in my way; no degree. So I returned to school to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education. After I received my degree I was promoted to a teaching position. I was so happy but not satisfied; I once again returned to school and this time I obtained a bachelors degree in Psychology. I chose these two combinations because I always envisioned myself owning and operating my own preschool that would afford opportunities for the lower socio-economic spectrum of children in our society to engage...

...The Stress-free Pursuit of an MBA Anonymous Student MGT/521 March 27, 2011 Phoenix Instructor The Stress-free Pursuit of an MBA The decision to pursue a postgraduate degree can turn into a decade-long odyssey. In my case the competing factors of time and finances always seemed to have the upper hand. In fact, it would be significantly easier to present all of the arguments against going back to school at this time. One could argue strongly that several significant life-changing events experienced recently would be reason enough to delay the initiation of the Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) program. Issues related to family loss and job change could be used as evidence in favor of postponement. Financial strains could also be presented as yet another reason that the time, effort, and expense required for an MBA would not be a necessary use of resources. However, despite all of the very valid arguments supporting a delay or abandonment of this goal, now is the time to begin my pursuit in earnest. In presenting the rationale for my decision, particularly related to all of the major life change I am going through, I am confident that the reader will concur that I am prepared to face the challenges of a postgraduate degree. According to The American Institute of Stress (n.d.), Dr. Hans Selye defined stress in 1936 as "the non-specific response of the body to any demand for change” (para. 2). Whereas the causes of stress and the responses to it...

...days a college degree is something that’s essential to be successful. It will provide an opportunity for a better life by earning a better salary unlike someone without a college education or degree. As said by John. F. Kennedy, “Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest ability, because in each of us is a private hope and dream which fulfilled can be translated into benefits for everyone and greater strengths for our nation. These makes me want to strive for a better life for me and my family and for a brighter tomorrow for all. We have gone without many things we would love and enjoy today. I would love to purchase a house of my choice, drive a better car, going away for family vacations among other things. Going for a summer cruise is one of my dreams, therefore I know that once I graduate from college I can get a great paying job and start making some if not all of the dreams a reality. A college education for me would provide inspiration for my children and other members of my family that haven’t been to college. As a mother, I realize that with a college degree and a good paying job, my children will want to have a comfortable life of their own once they grow up because of the kind of life I provided for them. It will also be better and easier for me to encourage them to further their studies if I use myself as an example. As said by George Shaw, “what we want to see is the child pursuit of knowledge, and not the knowledge in pursuit of the child”...
