...Some say that you got to see black in order to know that white exists. Since I was little, I’ve been raised in a loving and caring household. However, I’m conscious of what violence is and how it surrounds me, outside of my little bubble. I understand white because I know what black is. “Precious” is a perfect movie to contrast my lifestyle and to explain all of this. Being based on Sapphire’s book “Push”, it has a literary background and interesting way of telling the story as if it were a diary. Now, how can we compare these two masterpieces? Lets start from the top, its name. As we the movie lovers know, there’s an action film titled “Push” too. Therefore, we conclude that to avoid confusions, Claireece P. Jones’ film directors and producers decided to change the name. Throughout the book, we can see that the word push is often used to indicate Precious that she has to “push it to the limit”. Situations where it happens are when she is about to give birth to her child and Ms. Rain inducing her to learn how to read and write. Therefore, the novel’s name goes better with the social problem that Sapphire was trying to reflect through her lines. People that live under marginalization or other limitations have to give a little extra in order to survive in this world; society can’t win the battle. The movie was more about the protagonist. Lee Daniels had the job to make us get into Precious’ life, feel her suffer and understand what she went through. That’s why the film name was...

...Push by Sapphire is about a young sixteen-year-old girl who writes a story through her everyday life experience. She has been physically, emotionally, and sexually abused. She lives in Harlem New York and her mother beats her. Her father sexually abuses Precious and only visits when he wants sex. Precious has been abused since the age of three. Her father abused her in front of her mother and the mother does nothing. Pregnant at twelve, she has to take care of her fathers baby. She then gets pregnant at the age of sixteen again with her father being the babies dad. With this, Precious begins to struggle in school and gets herself suspended. Precious’ mother did not believe in an education for her daughter. She believed Precious should stay home with the kids and take care of her mother. She believed that welfare was the way to go. Precious never wanted that to be the life she has to live so she goes to school to get an education and eventually learns to read. She recited the ABC’s to her children for practice for them, but she also by doing this, shows signs of being a better parent than her mother is....

...Push Strategy: Push strategy is where companies forecast demand before ordering based on the willing buyers and also the goods doesn’t runout unexpectedly. For example winter jackets are required by retailers during the end of summer or during start of fall and winter. Companies can predict in their supply chain as they know what will be needed long before their demand actually arrives. So the main disadvantage in Push system is it’s purely based on forecast which is a guess. For example Billions are spent in US on computers and software’s but most of the time demand and forecast differed. So if forecast goes wrong there will be excess of investments and profits will decrease. Sometimes we may runout of inventory and lose customer loyalty. Pull Strategy: Pull strategy is the one which is based on demand data. This is based on the actual consumption at stores and also forecast rather than predicting sales. For example Custom computers are build by direct computer seller only when the order is received from consumer. Cloud technologies these days are providing daily consumer demand for generating forecast. Based on this strategy, a company can manufacture goods based on daily demand and reduce production of goods which are moving slowly so that inventory maintenance cost is reduced for goods which are not in demand. The disadvantage of this strategy is that sometimes we may runout of inventory if demand increases and if we are unable to increase production. Aggregate Forecast: ...

...inspiration, themes, and imagery concerning the appearance and the reality of the poem. Every mother wants to see her child be successful in life through the hardships and the good times. The poem was written from a mother to her young son demonstrating the love and concern a mother has for her son and educating him on how life may be. The overall message is to never give up, although life is hard, one can never give up no matter what your struggles are, keep pushing forward. This poem implies that experience can teach life lessons, which the mother has been through time after time. She explains to her son in a well spoken way that things may go wrong, don’t get content, move forward and never give up. This poem reminds me of a novel named Push, written by Sapphire in 1996, it illustrates the conditions of living in Harlem in the 1980’s and the suffering of a girl, Claireece Precious Jones, who experienced sexual harassment, being committed twice by her own father, having two children by him, but never giving up. The first couple of stanzas show that the son may have asked his mother a question, because she starts with, "Well, son, I'll tell you." The mother then goes on and uses the metaphor “Life for me ain't been no crystal stair,” which can symbolize her spiritual pursue towards Christ or telling her son that life is a journey and not something you can walk through with ease. The mother says it had tacks and splinters which could symbolically mean the life she has experienced...

...[pic] Renae Evans 04-27-2010 “ Push” by Sapphire Enriched and nurtured in the tradition of Toni Morrison and Alice Walker, Sapphire creates a womanist text that depicts a new voice of the African-American woman in Push. It is a troubling and intriguing novel narrated from the viewpoint of an uneducated, sexually abused Harlem adolescent, Precious Jones - ill-treated, deprived, fuming, obese, loathed, ignored and hence self-taught, direct, naive, raw as being sensible, worthy and truly humane. Precious Jones, the teenage protagonist, suffers unbelievable adversities for her young age — raped by her father (when she was only seven years old), ill-treated and badly beaten by her mother. At the start of the novel, Precious Jones is pregnant for the second time with her father's child. She says, “Don’t nobody want me. Don't nobody need me. I know who I am...ugly black grease to be wipe away, punish, kilt, changed, finded a job for"(p. 33). This obviously shows how much has she hates herself. Precious believes her life would be different if she were a white girl. She thinks white girls have all imaginable happiness a girl could possibly have. Precious realizes her physical appearance made people to mistreat her. Even if she sits obediently in class every day, she experiences-"I always did like school, jus' seem school never did like me"[(p. 38). In fact the school principal tells her teacher to renounce her, saying "Focus on the ones who can learn"(p...

...A push promotional strategy involves taking the product directly to the customer via whatever means, ensuring the customer is aware of your brand at the point of purchase. "Taking the product to the customer" EXAMPLES OF PUSH TACTICS * Trade show promotions to encourage retailer demand * Direct selling to customers in showrooms or face to face * Negotiation with retailers to stock your product * Efficient supply chain allowing retailers an efficient supply * Packaging design to encourage purchase * Point of sale displays 2. PULL STRATEGY A pull strategy involves motivating customers to seek out your brand in an active process. "Getting the customer to come to you" EXAMPLES OF PULL TACTICS * Advertising and mass media promotion * Word of mouth referrals * Customer relationship management * Sales promotions and discounts The origin of these two terms refers to the supply chain and how the demand for the product is generated. The term 'push strategy' describes the work a manufacturer of a product needs to perform to get the product to the customer. This may involve setting up distribution channels and persuading middle men and retailers to stock your product. The push technique can work particularly well for lower value items such as fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs), when customers are standing at the shelf ready to drop an item into their baskets and are ready to make their decision on the spot. This term now broadly encompasses most direct promotional...

...Push for Innovation Sergio Saucedo Western Governor’s University Abstract As organizations look for more ways to find success, they are unleashing some of the entrepreneurial personalities in their companies. As you will see there are many reasons for this type of strategy to encourage other companies to do the same. Companies such as, Hewlett-Packard and Rubbermaid that have had great success, and their history has shown that innovation is a key to long-term success. Push for Innovation To begin with one of the reasons why companies encourage an entrepreneurial culture to seek opportunities for innovation throughout the company is because it can unleash creativity. By unleashing creativity it opens doors to develop new products and helps to differentiate ones company from all others. With the ideas to develop new products though comes failure. But as mentioned by Thomas Bateman and Scott Snell (2011, 606),”Failure is the essence of learning, growing, and succeeding. Innovative companies have many balls in the air at all times, with many people trying many new ideas. A majority of the ideas will fail, but it is only through this process that the few big “hits” will emerge that make company an innovative star.” This will show that though ideas at times fail, it’s still a benefit to the company because they learn what will work and what will not work. By pushing new products, it gives the company a significant advantage if they can be the leader of that product...

...Most of the time, there are some characteristics and factors in person’s life that they can’t choose them. These characteristics include race, gender, and class. The film Precious directed by Lee Daniel in 2009 represents life of a young, illiterate girl, who suffers from sexual abuse and home violence as nobody can protect her except her old grandmother. The plot of the film shows that how the main character’s life has been affected by these characteristics. Throughout the movie we see that Precious does not live but exists in the world of a relentless treatment of her family at home and peers at school. Thus, the main idea of the film reveals that race and gender inequality can destroy the life of a black girl, who goes through several stages of human sufferings and, lastly, manages to cope with difficulties to start a new life becoming a real personality. Race, gender, and a particular social class show adults and children how to treat other people, and what are the most important things among them. In the film, a sixteen-year-old girl, Claireece Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) encounters such social issues as racism and gender inequality, but, one of the most significant problems is abuse and misunderstanding in the family. The point is that Precious’ mother is that person, who never supports her daughter and doesn’t pay attention to problems that her daughter is facing. Thus, Precious mother has little concern about her daughter who is raped by her father and constantly...

The producer promotes the product to wholesalers, the wholesalers promote it to retailers, and the retailers promote it to consumers. ...them are located in smaller; remote communities and generally not accessible by all-weather roads. Transportation is a considerable portion of North West’s expenses. With the goal of efficient logistic in mind, ordering was centralized, with input from the district and regional managers, and product was pushed to stores based on historical sales and forecast. Cooperation between North West Company with Giant Tiger Limited in 2001 which applied Pull Strategy System and the stores were growing well; This evidence made us to consider whether this pull strategy system overall would be more benefit than the current one. Based on the above reasons, I as a Director of Procurement and Marketing of North West Company decide to keep the current Push system innovatively such as realigned warehouse processing and shipping schedules, repositioning store location and distribution center on the remote communities and generally not accessible by all-weather road; and some of regional communities retailing that are generally accessible by all-weather road to open Giant Tiger store to implement Pull Strategy System. This report will be used as a basis for discussion in our executive meeting this coming Tuesday, April 10/ 2012. Barry McLeod Director of Procurement and...
