...Adam Buckley Cohen stated, “Sports that use more physical activity such as tackling gives more of a chance to get a concussion.” (Listening to the wisdom from 10-year-old son about his head injury). Tackling in football and knocking helmets against another or even very hard on the ground can cause a concussion. Another one from Adam Buckley Cohen is, “Concussions can lead to extreme brain issues.” (Listening to the wisdom from 10-year-old son about his head injury). Concussions that cause brain issues can put players into retirement even if at just a young age. Jacqueline Stenson informs people on how, “There can be very painful injuries that can happen to young people.” (Pushing too hard too young). Some injuries that can happen to young child is that the injury could lead to being life threatening based on how they got hurt, from helmets clashing to even hitting the ground with force. The opposite side has its own belief on how competitive sports are beneficial, such as for the reasons of competitions. Competitions end up teaching people how to compete in the real world and how to compete in a friendly environment. Even though competitions have the good side, there is the dangerous side as well. ALthough that competitions...

...Give it five minutes I used to be a hothead. Whenever anyone said anything, I’d think of a way to disagree. I’d push back hard if something didn’t fit my world-view. It’s like I had to be first with an opinion — as if being first meant something. But what it really meant was that I wasn’t thinking hard enough about the problem. The faster you react, the less you think. Not always, but often. It’s easy to talk about knee jerk reactions as if they are things that only other people have. You have them too. If your neighbor isn’t immune, neither are you. This came to a head back in 2007. I was speaking at the Business Innovation Factory conference in Providence, RI. So was Richard Saul Wurman. After my talk Richard came up to introduce himself and compliment my talk. That was very generous of him. He certainly didn’t have to do that. And what did I do? I pushed back at him about the talk he gave. While he was making his points on stage, I was taking an inventory of the things I didn’t agree with. And when presented with an opportunity to speak with him, I quickly pushed back at some of his ideas. I must have seemed like such an asshole. His response changed my life. It was a simple thing. He said “Man, give it five minutes.” I asked him what he meant by that? He said, it’s fine to disagree, it’s fine to push back, it’s great to have strong opinions and beliefs, but give my ideas some time to set in before you’re sure you want to argue against them....

Professional catchers are usually lean and quick. As for strength training, studies have shown that baseball-specific programs can increase batting speed and throwing velocity. Power training through plyometric increases a catchers speed and agility. It may also improve throwing and batting velocity. Shoulder injuries are a large concern in baseball. While strength conditioning can help to prevent injuries, weight lifting exercises may not target the correct muscles or the correct movement patterns. A catcher’s pre-season is used for general workouts, such as running. These workouts will gradually shift into more intense workouts. Catchers do not start off too intensely, because that will increase the chance for injury. It is important for a professional catcher to get their body back in shape before they start pushing it too hard. ...Many car drivers find out the hard way that the posted speed limit is meant for optimum road surface and driving conditions. The same is true for commercial or owner operator truck drivers except that there are many more circumstances for them to watch for. Driving too fast for the road conditions or in situations that are adverse to trucks can lead to an accident. Here are three of them: Slippery Pavement This category includes wet pavement as well as snow and ice conditions. Although wet pavement doesn't cause slipping and sliding when walking on it, you will find it slippery when braking to avoid an accident and during swerve maneuvers. Your weight and your trailer increase your braking distance, and if you aren't careful, a jackknife...

...We Are Not Alone Everyone has an experience at some point in their lives that changes them, for better or for worse. It may make them believe in something that they cannot see. Humans live for a short time and are here to question everything that does not fit into a nice neat box. We have a hard time believing in something that we cannot see. Yet, the wind is not seen, only felt, but we rarely think of that. When an event in our lives makes us question everything, we go straight to denial or we try to cling to our innocence. My story starts in 2009. That is when I started to believe in something ‘bigger’ than myself. The setting for this experience is on the coast in Oregon. I was with some of my peers from the group home, where we all resided. It was a beautiful day and we wanted to go swimming. We plunged into the ocean and had fun. Most of us got out after a short while, however, one of my peers and I decided to stay in and have more fun. I was 16 years of age at the time. My peer and I were having so much fun that we did not notice that we were being carried out to sea. I realized this fact when I got tired and tried to touch the bottom. I panicked I could not feel the sand. I was scared and started screaming. My peer looked over at me to see what was wrong and witnessed my sheer panic in the situation. We were both a long way from land. Since I have asthma, the panic sent me into a full-fledged attack which did not help in this situation. My peer made her way over...

...Isaac newton By Ethan Favour “We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” This was said by Sir Isaac Newton, who is credited for being one of the great minds of the 17th century scientific revolution. Isaac Newton was one of the most important and well known scientists in all of history. He was a mathematician and physicist and created several important inventions. Among his many great accomplishments, three significant things that made him well known were his laws of motion, his work in calculus, and his book on physics. The first of his 3 great achievements was his laws of motion. These consist of, the law of inertia, Newton's 2nd law of motion, and the law of reciprocal actions. The first, the law of inertia, is “A body will preserve its velocity and direction so long as no force in its motion's direction acts on it.” An example of this law could be when you aren't wearing a seatbelt (which you should never do) and the car...

...sports today have made the sport less fun for the kids and more about the parent’s dreams and aspirations for their kids. This book is a perfect example of how youth sports have become an obsession for parents more than the players themselves. In Until It Hurts Mark Hyman gives the history of several youth sports and also talks about the relationships between parents and athletes. Mark Hyman wrote this book to help parents realize the mistakes they make when pushing kids too far and to the point of injury. The author uses explanation and analysis to present a subject or to clarify his idea. Hyman interviewed several parents, coaches, athletes, doctors, psychologists, tutors, college recruiters, and former professional athletes in his book telling stories about athletes who are pushed too hard and what sacrifices were made. As a parent it is hard to understand how parents go to these extremes for their children but Hyman does not criticize these parents he is only giving their side of the story. He understands this all too well because he was one of those parents with his own son Ben. Hyman’s son Ben was a baseball player who had played since he was little. In the introduction Hyman talks about finding a picture of his son out in the snow which he describes as being a perfect greeting card except his eighteen month son is outside with a batting tee but he does not remember what he was thinking having his little boy out in the snow practicing. He tells this story in his introduction...

...child. I played hard and fast, not the best on my team, but the most dedicated, the most determined. For years I eagerly anticipated every practice and every game, however, this changed upon entering high school. I soon realized that while I handled the physical components of the sport easily, the social aspect proved nigh impossible to navigate. Criticism from a coach comes with the territory, but daily belittlement from teammates and exclusions from team events strikes hard, and I fell, fast. After holding my own in a socially harrowing season of indoor soccer with only seniors as my teammates, I realized that no matter how much I adored the sport, I could not withstand their tormenting. So I quit. For a few months I drifted, lost, and having cast aside a key component of my life outside of academics I needed to find something to keep me active, engaged, and...

...Hard Work Pays Off In many ways college is the most important stepping stone to one’s future. College is the transition from being a child to being an adult. By being given more freedom, and also a heavier workload, college makes young adults learn how to better manage their time knowing that there is no longer anyone sticking their necks out pushing them to succeed. For many, a college education, and eventually a degree is a goal they set for themselves long ago. For me, my college education, although helpful towards my future, isn’t necessarily being accomplished to please myself. I was raised, as one would consider a privileged child. By showing my parents respect and doing simple tasks they asked me to do, I was provided the best childhood one could ask for. I wouldn’t consider my family rich by any means, but my parents always found a way to give my brother and I some of the finer experiences in life. From travels, to gifts, to a roof over my head, and food on my plate, you could say I lived a very happy life. Growing up my parents always pushed me to do my very best in school. Though they made it seem like a choice, I knew they wouldn’t truly accept anything but my best effort. I pulled as many A’s as I possibly could, spent most my nights skipping social events to study, and sacrificed a lot of “being a kid” to make my parents proud of me. I was always told that my hard work would pay off in the end. Through out high school I continued pushing myself to get the most...

She is on top of you, her hair falling down like a curtain over your face. I can still see you two kissing passionately her full lips crushing yours, your tongues dancing. She pushing her hand up your top to caress your breast, you had completely succumbed to her. She pushed your top up over your head keeping your arms tied up in it. She continued to kiss you, pulling at your lip with her teeth, then biting your neck and burying her face between you soft full breasts. She looks over at me, laid back on the couch, watching her skillfully seduce you. She takes your nipple in between her teeth and tugs, raking it as you arch you back in appreciation. Her eyes still on me, she flutters her silky tongue over your erect nipple before taking it her mouth, your head arched back now trying to free your arms so that you could participate. Once your arms are free you pull her up, your lips lock in a deep hungry kiss, this time you’re...
