This Garasia tribal community has got concentration in several areas of the state of Rajasthan. The Garasia tribal community is considered to be the third largest tribal group of the state of Rajasthan. The people of this tribal community are basically concentrated in different parts of this state namely Kotra, Abu Road tehsil of Sirohi, Bali and Desuri tehsils of Pali districts, Gogunda and Kherwara tehsils of Udaipur. The further division was created by the nationalist movement in between the groups. Among the Garasias, the Bhil-Garasias are the part of tribes who married the Bhil women to maintain peace and harmony. This tribal community is divided in three sections namely the nanki niyat, moti niyat and nichli niyat and these sections have further clan divisions namely Solanki, Mali, Parmar, Raidara etc. The territory of the Garasia people is called patta and the smallest unit of the villages is termed as hamlet or phalia. The word `Garasias` is derived from the Sanskrit word `gras` that signifies the substance. The history says that after defeated by Ala-ud-Din Khilji, the Rajputs took flight...

...A typical dream vacation usually consists of traveling to a foreign country such as Italy or to a more tropical setting such as Bora Bora. Although I would love to travel to these places I have a location completely different in mind. Not a significant amount prefer traveling to what I consider as my dream vacation location. To be completely honest I am not very educated when it comes to this place and I have no idea what to expect if I were to ever travel there. Despite this fact I am confident that my dream location is rich in culture and art, two aspects in life that I am strongly passionate about. Culture is imbedded in every person that walks this Earth and if I have the capacity to learn about the variety of cultures, I shall. I find it amazing how although we inhabit the same Earth each culture adopts different beliefs and lifestyles. Art resides in each culture and I enjoy witnessing the diversity of details in each piece and the infinite amount of culture flowing out of each one. My dream vacation would consist of educating myself about the culture and art of the one place where I am certain it will satisfy my curiosity: India. For about two years I have been growing more and more interested in learning about India. My goal in the future is to travel there and spend about a month journeying through out India learning about the different landmarks and the people who reside there. I have always wanted to experience walking the paths of India dressed in a saree with a...

There I met people from different communities and castes. Brick kiln industry mainly involves three jobs – 1. Paatla 2. Jalai 3. Nikasi. Each work is a Speciality of a particular community. I visited Oad community people who mainly do the third phase of brick making. Most of these labours are migrant labours who work here till season ends and go back to their respective states. Oad community mainly hails from Rajasthan and northern Gujarat. The family whom I interviewed was from Rajasthan. Pics from the site 2. Social status Like other families in this industry Govind’s family is also a group of migrant workers. Although they are supposed to be a Rajput tribe but still they come under lower because of the job they traditionally did. They have no status in Gujarat, in fact only contractor and other families working in the same conditions knew them and others don’t even know they exist. In fact when we talked about government’s acceptance of their existence then I realised that government (Gujarat) do not accept that they are present and thus they are negated of any benefits that a state can give to its people. a. Health benefits They are no health...

...MYSTERY OF MYSTERY Sliding stones Even NASA cannot explain it. It’s best to gaze in wonder at the sliding rocks on this dry lake bed in Death Valley National Park. Racetrack Playa is almost completely flat, 2.5 miles from north to south and 1.25 miles from east to west, and covered with cracked mud. The rocks, some weighing hundreds of pounds, slide across the sediment, leaving furrows in their wakes, but no one has actually witnessed it. 9. Kuldhara — Rajasthan (Ghost Town) village of Kuldhara is a ghost village that has been abandoned since 1800s. It is said to carry a curse of the villagers who migrated to other places. Kuldhara lies about 15 Km west of Jaisalmer in western Rajasthan. The village now lies in ruins. The village was established in 1291 by the Paliwal Brahmins, who were a very prosperous clan and were known for their business acumen and agricultural knowledge. But one night in 1825 all the people in Kuldhara and nearby 83 villages vanished in dark. According to folklore, Salim Singh, the minister of the state, once visiting this village fell for the beautiful daughter of chieftain (Paliwal Brahmin) and wanted to marry her. The minister threatened the villagers that if they did not marry the girl to him, he would levy huge taxes. The chief of the village with those of other 83 adjoining villages decided to abandon and migrate elsewhere as against marrying the girl to Salim Singh. Nobody saw them leave nor did anyone figure where they went, they simply...

...Groups in Rajasthan Rajasthan is a state steeped in culture and history. Rajasthan, or the realm of the Kings, as it is known, is perhaps one of the princely states of all in India. Its history is abundant with stories and legends about its kings and rulers. In its golden age, the region was ruled by the Rajputs, and in their honor the state was known as Rajputana in its erstwhile years. These were the royal people, the Kshatriyas, the warriors and they were known to be fierce fighters, extremely proud of their heritage and position. But the state itself comprised of many other people groups, most of them tribal in nature. The state even now comprises of five major tribal people groups with many other either being the branches of these major groups or minor ones. These five tribal groups are Mina, Bhil, Garasia, Saharia and Damor. Of these tribal groups, the Minas are the largest of the lot with almost a share of close to 50 percent of the total population; Bhils come close with a population of 45 percent and then come the Garasias with a population comprising 3-4 percent of the total population of tribal people. The population of the Garasias in Rajasthan has been dwindling in the recent past because of their migration to North Gujarat. 2.) The Garasias Numerically speaking, the Garasias constitute the third largest group of the state of Rajsthan. Though they are also found in the neighboring state of Rajasthan, they are mainly spread in the state of Rajasthan in the...

...Journal Adventure in India Before leaving to India I was a little bit pessimist about that trip. I was not sure if I would like the country, the culture, the food, and I have to admit that I would have loved staying in Florida and enjoying my Spring Break in South America. Overall that trip had been a success to me. I’ve been travelling since many years with my family. I’ve been really lucky to get the chance to discover new countries and cultures all around the world. India had been an amazing adventure for many reasons. Few years ago I went to Africa, in Mauritania and it amazed me to see how people could leave together even though the poor situation in the country. I felt the same in India and I would say even more. The first thing that I’ve noticed was obviously the fact that the living conditions are terrible for most of the people. I was extremely chocked about it, all those people sleeping outside, begging for food, begging for a simple tee-shirt and candies. It was extremely sad and weird to be confronted to all those kids living in the streets. I believe that the poverty in the streets and the living conditions have been a terrible eyes opener about how lucky I am to be born in Paris and to study in Florida. The architecture was something also very different from France or the United States. It was amazing to see all those old monuments and especially the Taj Mahal. The Taj Mahal is definitely the most impressive and amazing monument that I’ve seen in my life. I will...

...Just when North India thought a nightmarish power crisis was behind them, the Northern ,Eastern and north eastern grids have failed again at 1 PM. Technical snag hit the Northern Grid for the second consecutive day on Tuesday leading to paralyzing of all services in northern region. Along with northern grid eastern and north eastern grid also collapsed simultaneously leading to black out in 12 states. Heavy over drawl by Uttar Pardesh, Haryana and Rajasthan is the likely cause of grid failure. All the three states were overdrawing to the extent of 1200 MW each. The reason for the grid failures in the North and East have reportedly been caused because frequency has dipped below the optimal level of 49 HZ . However officials have been unable to identify exactly where the fault has occurred. The power supply in Punjab and Haryana are likely to be restored late in evening. The supply to thermal plants from hydro station is being arranged and it will take 4 to 6 hours to start thermal units. Earlier on Monday, seven states in the northern region saw power trip off at 2.32 am due to a major breakdown in the Northern Grid. The power failure had hit rail, Metro and road-traffic operations, as well as services at hospitals and civic bodies. Meanwhile CERC in its order said today that in case the constituents do not comply with the directions of NRLDC with regard to overdrawal NRLDC shall take necessary steps to open the identified feeder(s) to the constituent States in order to reduce...
