... direction, clarity, and repetition. If given the opportunity to participate in the cadaver lab, I would take the communication and teaching skills I currently possess and apply them when assisting others in the lab. How I Can Handle the Extra Workload During the Fall Semester, I took a fairly rigorous 18 hour, coursework load including Biology and Chemistry, two lab classes that required weekly reports and immense amounts of time spent studying. Additionally, I participated in the Biology Learning Community Research Lab where I spent the semester studying the effects of algae on the water chemistry, specifically dissolved oxygen, nitrate, nitrite, and phosphate at Nahant Marsh. This entailed weekly canoe trips into the marsh, gathering algae samples from various points and performing detailed biological analysis. Through this lab, I gained an understanding of the basics of research, the discipline and importance of gathering credible samples, the use of lab equipment, how to analyze data and the relevance of the numbers, detailed report writing and the importance of a clear and structured presentation. To complete my research project, I provided a poster presentation to the entire Science Department at SAU. During this first semester, I also ran for, was elected and serve as the SGA Freshmen Class President, was one of five students that organized around 100 teams (over 600 students) and carried out Bee the Difference Day, was (and continue to be) on the...

...Clearly, the future of nursing is heading for some significant changes. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health”, from 2011 highlights the changes facing the medical field, particularly related to nursing, and the obstacles we as nurses must face and overcome to continue to deliver effective, quality care to all patient populations. According to the IOM report, the passing of the Affordable Care Act (IOM report p. 21) will greatly affect the delivery of care, and nurses need to be ready to accept the challenges, “The ACA represents the broadest changes to the health care system since the 1965 creation of the Medicare and Medicaid programs and is expected to provide insurance coverage for an additional 32 million previously uninsured Americans. The need to improve the health care system is becoming increasingly evident as challenges related to both the quality and costs of care persist” (IOM report, p. 21). The key factors involved in nurses having the competency to meet the higher standards being set are based on: the transformation of nursing practice, the modification of nursing education, and the cultivation of nurses taking a more active leadership role. Transforming nursing practice can occur several ways. The IOM report stresses the importance of this transformation to take place to improve care of the more diverse population of patients. It states that, “…the system must undergo and fundamental shift to...

...Director of Education Research. Arum received his doctorate in sociology from the University of California at Berkley. Finally he led Research Partnership for New York schools, giving them solutions to improve the public school system. Josipa Roska is the associate professor and director at the Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. She also is the professor of sociology at the University of Virgin. Both of these authors have high degrees in higher education, and have qualified backgrounds. Their goal in this essay is to target teachers and professionals. The main points of this essay are to give these professionals tool to make education at a higher standard. Although the use of logos is clear there is an underlining essence of pathos, and a lack of pathos. The article starts with talking about how special graduation is, and how important receiving a college degree really can be. Nevertheless it also says that the difficulty of schooling has significantly decreased in recent years. School is more about fun now then about work. Surveys have shown that “Almost 9 out of 10 reported overall they were satisfied with the college experience” (291). This study is showing that more students are having fun in college than actually receiving an education. The article goes on to say that another study was done to follow around students for all four years of college. During this time they had a lot of free time, and minimum coursework. They also noticed that...

...Research Paper Your name: Matthew Turner Your Capella email address: mturner86@capellauniversity.edu The course number: IT3006 Instructor name: Professor Julie Krummen Date submitted: 2/26/16 Title of your paper: PIPA & SOPA Introduction In this paper, the topics to be discussed are what is PIPA and SOPA, prior related acts or laws, impacts on the first and fourth amendment, impacts on e-commence, supporters, and oppositions. This topic may seem old, but it could always come back later. Back in 2011 and 2012, there was a big fight between Congress and the Internet sites. This fight was over PIPA and SOPA which people associated it with censoring the Internet. However, it was much more than just censoring the Internet. It violated not one, but two amendments that are granted to every U.S. citizen. It also had the potential to hurt e-commence. As Wikipedia said on one of it’s blackout pages in 2012 “Imagine a world without free knowledge” and that is exactly what these sites were trying to protect. Yes, they may have won for now, but there is always a chance these acts could show up again. What is PIPA? PIPA is short for PROTECT IP Act or Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act. This bill was introduced to the Senate on May 12, 2011 (U.S. Senate, 2011). This act would “enhance enforcement against rogue websites operated and registered overseas” (U.S. Senate, 2011). Once the Attorney General gets a court...

...General Introduction This THESIS LECTURE NOTE & GUIDE is meant to teach MBA students on the rudiments of research method as a major course in the MBA programme and at the same time serve as a guide and to assist them to successfully complete their Research Methods Examinations and thesis project without difficulty. HOW ARE TOPICS SELECTED OR DEVELOPED? You should not be surprised if a professor gives you a perturbed look or cringes when you tell him/her that you have no idea of what you would like to pursue as a thesis topic. Why might your professor react this way? Because there are potentially hundreds of topics or research questions that can be pursued and your professor is anticipating your next question, which is usually, "Do you have any suggestions?" In addition, the topic is one that is chosen by you, not your advisor, and thus, the responsibility of constructing possible topics is the student's. In essence, your thesis topic should not just be chosen and that's it! The topic must be explored, developed, and assessed. Is it an original one? Is the purpose to replicate previous research? Is the research feasible in terms of access to data, cost, time, and effort? Does anybody care about the topic you have in mind? If you have a topic in mind you might ask yourself these questions: --Does it suit your interests and possible career objectives? --Does it fit your background and experience? --Are you willing to commit the next 6 months (or longer)...

...Organization development (OD) Grand Canyon University Professor: Dr. Kimberly Bennett April 15th, 2015 Organization development (OD) Introduction In today’s world it is almost impossible for an organization to survive and prosper without consequent change. Having the right and diverse culture are as important as having a great brand of products to support the business aspects of an organization. Implementing change is never easy nor resistance free. Change can’t be rushed nor imposed upon. Planning, strategy, risk analysis and hard work are vital elements that an organization should anticipate and be good at. Most of the organizations have difficulties recognizing the effort and planning that is required for an organization change and to withhold the resistance associated with change. Forecasting change before disaster and getting equipped with the change intervention is half the battle the modern era companies face. The company that I will be discussing in this paper is General Motors (GM). GM has a global presence and was growing rapidly in sales and brand value until past decade. Due to recent economy melt down and global economic crisis, GM was left with no options other than to make critical changes to their business model and products for the corporation to survive. Auto industry is deeply rooted in the fabric of American culture, one out of ten Americans depends on the US auto industry for their livelihood. GM can’t go back to the old ways of making profit...

If every organization is preparing its financial reports in their own way, it is difficult for the users of accounting to use the financial reports. (Kirk, & Miller, 1986) Harmonization of international accounting standards as the trend for globalization in business becomes increasingly important for economic success, many issues arise through international business practices for corporations, governments, and investors. There are many potential advantages and disadvantages/challenges associated with harmonization of accounting standards. (John, 2013) Advantages 1) Reduced Reporting Costs Multinationals operating in countries with different accounting standards would incur high costs of preparing financial reports in accordance with each country’s accounting principles, then repeating the whole process for consolidation purposes. Harmonized accounting standards benefits multinational corporations because they can prepare one report rather than one...
