...Resilience and Spirituality In: Philosophy and Psychology Resilience and Spirituality Abstract Through the course of researching and writing the paper some very interesting things about resilience and spirituality have been observed. While one would assume that a person that exhibits great faith would be very resilient, that is not always the case. Resilience comes from an inner strength that can be magnified by a strong faith. In order for a person to truly have a high level of resilience, they must also have a strong faith. That faith does not have to be in God but it does have to be a faith in something that you believe with protect you and see you through life’s trials. While a belief in something other than God many help a person in the short term, it will ultimately fail them as everything falls short of the Lord. What is Resilience? Simply defined, resilience is the ability bounce back or recoil after being mashed, twisted, or bent. This is a fitting definition as I know that when I have been faced with trauma, I often felt mashed, twisted, or bent. It is such a simple word with a simple meaning but putting into action can often feel almost impossible. Putting this into action requires strength. A person needs to have a strong resolve and a strong faith in order to bounce back in the face of trauma. We are faced with some sort of trauma on an almost daily basis (Maddi, 2013). Gardner Brazilian unemployment affected young Brazilians the most by increasing the unemployment rate 2.3 times higher than usual. It will be less developed job skills and work experience for these young adults. Following a rate of steady decline, the youth unemployment rate rose 0.5 percent points to 18.5 percent average in 2009 while the total unemployment rate raised 0.2 percent average in 2009. By sector, the largest decrease in employment occurred in manufacturing due to a sharp fall in industrial production (12.5 per cent), mainly in export-oriented industries. Paid employment in the sector declined 5.3 per cent in 2009 while working hours contracted slightly (0.3 per cent) and real wages rose 2.5 per cent. At the total economy level, over 94,000 jobs were created during the first three quarters of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008. Employment growth by sector was highest in public administration, education and health (130,400 jobs created), followed by financial and business services (19,100) and construction (16,300). In addition to job losses in manufacturing, net job losses totaled 104,600 in utilities and 14,700 in wholesale and retail trade. In the third quarter of 2009, employment continued to decline in utilities (2.4 per cent) and wholesale and retail trade (0.16 per cent), albeit at a slower pace. ...Interview with a Change Agent Interviewee: Khalid Soussou, Data Security Systems In December 1992, Emirates Information Systems (EIS) completed the implementation phase of a strategic re-orientation change process, led by a new General Manager, Khalid Soussou. The outcome of the change process was a radical restructuring of the organisation involving 80% of the workforce being made redundant, a 90% change in the senior management team, and the outsourcing of the entire transportation department. Rather than being instigated in reaction to a contemporaneous event, the change was instigated because the CEO recognised that EIS’s previous growth strategy via acquisition was not sustainable, and believed significant organisational change in anticipation of increased international competition would help create a sustainable competitive advantage. Soussou’s appointment resulted directly from the CEO’s felt need for change. Soussou was essentially ‘contracted’ to review the business in order to develop and implement appropriate changes that would re-align EIS along more efficient and effective business prinicples.
