...rowing up, my parents always told me that I wouldn’t know who I truly was or what I wanted until the age of 25. This assignment intrigued me because I thought maybe I would finally be able to compose an objective image of myself. I am currently 20 years old and planning to finish my MBA in 10 months. I still have almost no idea what I would like to pursue a career in. For this project, I solicited responses to create an image of my “best self.” I hope to learn from the responses and analyze what attributes are missing to create a great manager. The methods taken to solicit responses will be discussed followed by a full analysis of the responses leading to a view at my leadership strengths and recommendations for improvement. ...previously did not elicit a response comes to elicit a response, in reflex—like fashion, after it is paired with one or more trials with a stimulus that already elicits a response” (Gray, 1999, p 100). Having to do with the reflexes, the definition of classical condition can be abbreviated into the idea of involuntary behavior. The example of Pavlov’s dog illustrates this as the dog came to associate the sound of a bell with food, causing a reflexive action of salivating, resulting in salivation even when the bell was not paired with food. Personal experience with classical conditioning My boyfriend has two dogs whom he loves very dearly and spends much time playing with. They are both extremely affectionate and smother people with kisses. However, their over¬zealous behavior often leads to fighting between the two of them, especially over attention from any new corner to the house. They also have two different personalities: one is passive and one is very nervous, and sometimes has a problem with uncontrollable urination when very excited. On one occasion when I was at my boyfriend’s house, I was sitting with the passive dog in my lap, watching television when I saw the other dog approaching. Thinking nothing of it, I remained seated, stroking the fur of the dog on my lap. The other dog, watching this, suddenly ran towards me and jumped in my lap. Immediately after this I felt a warm sensation spreading on my lap and realized the dog had urinated on me. The feeling of discomfort...

...Reading Response Essay At the beginning of the semester when the reading responses were assigned, I really did not know what to expect or how to do any of them. As the semester went on, I slowly figured out how to improve my work on these reading responses. Some of the responses were pointless I thought but others were helpful. No matter how many reading response assignments we had on quotes and citations, I never one hundred percent understood how to do them until I kept on putting them into my work as the semester went on. Those assignments helped me gain a better understanding on how to use quotes and when to use them. This will come handy in classes in the future. The reading responses that aimed towards bibliographies helped tremendously. It allowed me to practice my work so that I knew how to do it correctly when writing papers and not have to look it up or use a special website to help me every time. I never did quite understand why we had to do annotated bibliographies though because personally I don’t know what the purpose of the annotated part is. When the rest of the reading responses were cancelled for the semester, I was very happy. After doing a few of these responses, I just thought to myself that they were just for some extra grades or ‘busy work’. Trying to complete reading responses and a writing project was sometimes difficult but also possible. I would suggest not doing reading responses unless you do them at the beginning of the semester...

...Commonwealth of The Bahamas. Thus, my interview took place on Walderick Wells, a Cay located in the Exuma Land and Sea Park. I had known Ms. Roker, little under two weeks and was intrigue as to why she choose the Bahamas to work instead of America. Every morning she would open the park office and we would start a casual conservation. Her views on life were astounding and to see how her dog Grace interacts with her is just amazing. She always seemed very happy whenever I saw her and always was giving. When I think of what happiness looks like I always think of her. My second choice is Mr. D Bonaby. He is between the ages of 40-50 years and is an active member in the military. He has been deployed to the same sub base as me and he has been my superior for the past 10 years. He is a welder in the military and hopes to open his welding business when he retires from the military. This is the first time we are working hand in hand and he seems content with what he has accomplish in life. He always has a humorous side which never takes a break. Listening to him speak and reflect on the military of yester years brings such happiness to me as it has developed over the years. ... November 3, 2013 First Impressions Summary My immediate responses to the slides were primarily positive, with the exception of slides six and eleven. Some of those immediate responses were because of familiarity with issues or occurrences, or similar experiences. For some my initial response was on target. The positive images were things that made me smile, I recognized, or the assumptions I made were accurate. The negative responses were to slides that made me uncomfortable or sad as soon as I saw them. For example, the black and white photo I immediately thought of Martin Luther King, especially because of all the clergy representation, and I instantly put it all together. I was happy to see I was correct. On the negative side, pictures that I first saw which made me smile, such as the children who looked to be celebrating and playing, felt like a big letdown, when I read the information and found they were in reality, demonstrating, and I was sad about that. My perception changed on a few when I read the information, some of which my positive responses turned negative. I wanted the pictures to say one thing, but some were the exact opposite and that was disappointing. When I studied the photos more closely, I saw things that it should have caught to understand the photo better, and also recognized some of the barriers...

...111 1. Based on the readings and responses I was able to learn more about the design and delivery of speeches. These response assignments help me reflect on different types of concepts that we discussed about in class. The most important piece of information that I got out of the readings and response assignments was how to create a powerful speech. The beginning of the course really focused on what should be used in a speech and what shouldn’t. For example, the readings really helped me open my eyes on the topic of my audience. In order to give a well-designed speech I needed to be able to take into consideration my audience’s interests and how I was going to be able to motivate my audience to be interested in my topic. Not only did I learn about my audience through the readings but I also learnt more about myself as a speaker. The readings helped by giving me tips and suggestions on my design for my informative speech and also my team presentations. For example, the readings helped me through creating my design of my speech. The readings taught me to use nouns in my introduction when I am listing out all of my points that will be discussed throughout my speech. Also, the readings helped me to prepare for some of my team presentations as the content in the readings were used for our design of our presentation. The readings were quite useful as they were used to help us teach the class the content in the textbook. With that we were able to use the readings as material for...

...anything like the class and collaboration. Initially, I thought that it was going to be a bit weird for me because of the male to female partnership, but that changed once I started to understand what the class was about. It was an absolutely excellent choice to have her as my partner. The relaxation class was also an exciting time to attend every Thursday. Not only did I learn so much about relaxation and music, but I also got to end the week with a relaxation session that always started off a great weekend. Outside of that, Corey and I met up every week to practice the techniques on each other resulting into great confidence and engagement. I intend on writing about my experiences, how we have grown, and things that I observed during this wonderful experience. We had a total of 5 relaxation sessions over a course of almost three months. It started with a shy demeanor being the fact...

...Introduction Active listening responses are skills we all possess and are essential for you as a nurse to understand and use while also encountering and learning how to overcome communication barriers with your patients. In this essay we will be looking in depth at three types of Therapeutic Listening responses I have used with one of my patients Mrs Johns and also ways I overcame obstacles that affected communication between myself and Mrs Johns. Therapeutic Listening responses when caring for Mrs Johns Paraphrasing First we will look at three main types of Therapeutic Listening responses that are sometimes used in the field of nursing, the first response we look at it paraphrasing. Paraphrasing is taking what you have heard and repeating it in your own words, paraphrasing is important because it is a way of validating that you have understood accurately what was said and allows the patient to verify their statement (Lippincott Williams and Wilkins, 2008, p. 54). It is more to the point and shorter than the patients initial statement allowing you to focus on the main features of the first statement (Arnold and Boggs, 2011 p. 186). Times when you would use paraphrasing would be just after a patient has told you a statement about feelings or thoughts and you need to confirm what you are hearing is correct, it is important to paraphrase correctly so the patient dose not think you are trying to change what they have said or think you are putting words in their mouth. Below are...

...the Telephone For this project I surveyed and researched the “Telephone Response Violation.” By doing so I would answer my phone and not say a word then I would jot down my observations of the other persons response. However, before I started my violation survey I was really quite worried. It doesn’t matter if you’re in China or America; it’s an impolite behavior to not answer or greet when someone phones you. Perhaps the person calling me might think I accidently hit the wrong button or something, which would potentially lead to them hanging up and redialing me again. I assume if I don’t answer within 5 seconds the person calling me would just hang-up and try again or try text messaging me. The past few days that I have been attempting the survey has been a bit difficult for me because I am use to always answering with “hello.” However, I made a concerted effort and achieved good results for this project. My friend, Savina, and I were planning on hanging out Thursday afternoon. I waited for her to pick me up at the CRCC business building. She called me when she arrived, and I answered her phone call, but didn’t say a word. This (non-conversation) silence lasted for 23 seconds and then she asked “hello Caroline, are you there?” I did not expect this patient reaction from her. After we met, I asked her why she waited on the phone for a whole 23 seconds instead of saying something immediately. Her response to why she didn’t say something sooner and instead waited 23 seconds was...
