...service. A consumer’s motivation is one aspect that Coca-Cola should emphasize to increase product sales. Their motivation, such as a hunger or thirst, will be the deciding factor to drive the consumer to make a purchase. In past advertising campaigns Coca-Cola has aligned the product with thirst quenching or refreshment. This type of marketing will focus on the consumer’s immediate need to remedy their thirst. Not only does Coca-Cola need to emphasize the consumer’s motivation but they must take into consideration the customer’s perception. Perception would be the process by which the customer will select, organize, and interpret the information to act on the motivation (Kotler & Keller, 2012). People are stimulated from the advertisements that will address a current need or that they anticipate. The product advertisement must focus on a remedy of the current yearning that the consumer is experiencing. An advertisement that is focusing on quenching the thirst will address and motive the consumer to purchase the product to remedy their need. Coca-Cola has to not only address a customer’s current need but will need to consider the customer’s selective distortion and selective retention. Selective distortion is a person’s way of associating past experiences or information with a brand or product. Selective retention is the material that forms our attitudes and beliefs. In marketing a product or brand, the packaging, for example, cannot deviate from the past without the consumer...

...Electronic records management (ERM) is the systematic method to managing electronic records for efficient storage and retrieval during their useful life cycle. This includes the creation and implementation of set time frames for the retention and destruction of the record (Brown, DeHayes, Hoffer, Martin, & Perkins, 2012). ERM has become an important part of organizations’ information security for several reasons. First, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act requires all publicly traded companies and their accounting firms to maintain all audits and reviews for a period of five years. The Internal Revenue Service can require a time frame of up to seven years. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) gives individuals access to any disclosure of their public health records up to three years (Brown et al., 2012). Another federal law regarding information security is the eDiscovery amendments to the U.S. Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. These amendments require organizations to follow a set of procedures regarding records retention and electronic information collection (Brown et al., 2012). These laws and regulations impose financial penalties and even imprisonment if not complied with and have triggered an increase in the importance of ERM. All organizations have digital liability, the liability pertaining to the mismanagement of electronic records by their employees. Digital liability management should be based on risk assessment and requires managers to understand...

...Journal of Finance and Accountancy The Effect of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on Auditors’ Audit Performance Tae G. Ryu Metropolitan State College of Denver Barbara Uliss Metropolitan State College of Denver Chul-Young Roh East Tennessee State University ABSTRACT The issue of audit reporting for financially distressed firms continues to be of interest to the public and to legislators. Previous studies have consistently shown that auditors fail to issue going-concern opinions to more than half of bankrupt firms one year prior to bankruptcy. The Enron and Arthur Andersen failures in late 2001 and early 2002, respectively, led to the enactment of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) in July 2002. Audit firms now claim that they have become much more conservative with respect to client retention and acceptance decisions because the risks associated with auditing increased significantly after the enactment of the SOX. The primary purpose of this study is to provide a basis for a proper evaluation of auditors’ performance. We conducted performance comparisons between the pre- and post-SOX periods. Although auditors are now expected to use a more vigorous audit process in deciding whether to issue going-concern or other qualified opinions to financially distressed firms, our preliminary results show that there is no significant difference between the two periods. Key words: Audit Decision, Going-Concern, Opinion, Z-score, Industry Failure Rate The Effect of Sarbanes Oxley...

...of outsourcing to other countries include a possible higher bottom line and more production. These good outcomes have to be weighed with the chance that the general public may have a lower opinion of the company and choose not to do business with the company because of the jobs being taken from American workers and sent to another country. There would also be some political ramifications to the decision to outsource. The United States government may decide to impose extra taxes on those companies that choose to outsource. On top of having to follow United States laws, these companies will also have to follow the laws of the countries that they outsource to. These countries may prohibit or restrict imports of hardware and software. When deciding to outsource to another county, a company should look at setting up an office with the traditional office positions of CEO, CIO, and HR manager. This makes for a more streamlined communication process between the parent company and the international site. There are significant geo-economic challenges for businesses in outsourcing. There are large physical distances between the parent company and the international site. The time difference between sites could contribute to communications problems. There is also a lack of telecommunications abilities and specialized job skills in some countries. The cost of living and labor costs in some countries may also cause problems. There are many countries that restrict or monitor data access...
