...Challenges and Rewards of Teaching/Final Exam Sheila Wright Liberty University INTRODUCTION I know that my first year of teaching will be filled with many challenges and many rewards; after all you cannot have roses without thorns. Just being new to the profession is going to be challenging. I am sure I will be anxious, nervous and extremely excited to finally have my own class. I am confident that the excellent education that I will receive will help me meet the challenges head on and appreciate the rewards as they come. In this essay I will discuss my top three challenges and rewards as it relates to the text and information presented in this course. CHALLENGES The multidimensional aspect of the classroom will be challenging. Having a large number of events occurring at the same time will make it difficult to decide what to deal with first. I will have to be prioritize the events as they unfold, therefore making snap decisions will become an everyday practice. This leads me to another challenge; classroom management. According our textbook from 1960 to 2004, polls identified classroom management as one of teachers’ most challenging problems and from 2004 to present, it ranked second behind only behind school funding. (D.Kauchak, P. Eggen 2011) Lastly, I think that language diversity is a challenge that I may be faced with. As we read in chapter 4 of our text- “immigration has brought increasing numbers of students with limited backgrounds...

...Challenges and Rewards of Teaching Ever since I was a child I have known in my heart and soul that I want nothing more than to be a teacher someday. Being a teacher is one of the most rewarding careers one can have, however, there are also challenges to be faced in this field. Three rewards of being a teacher include student improvement and growth, improving as a teacher, and appreciation, and three challenges include student behavior management, effective communication, and differentiation among students. The most rewarding aspect of being a teacher, in my own opinion, is seeing your students learn and grow each and everyday. Being able to take them from a starting point in the beginning of the year and watch them expand their minds and knowledge as the year progresses is one of the most remarkable things. In my own personal experience working at my local daycare I have learned that it is incredible to see a child light up when they have learned something new as a direct result from your teaching. It provides a sense of accomplishment not only for the student, but for the teacher as well. Another reward of teaching is self-improvement. When most people think of school they probably think of it as a place for just students to learn. The way I see it, however, it is a place for both the student and the teacher to learn. I believe that everyday in the classroom provides an opportunity for the students and teacher to learn something from one another. One way of improving...

...becoming a teacher. “What are three rewards and three challenges that you will face as a teacher?” I'll be talking about these challenges and rewards in the next few pages, on how I feel teaching make a major impact on not only my life, but hopefully the lives of thousands of children to come. At the end of the day I'm hoping to be that one teacher that my students will remember forever. What greater gift could I be given than to make a positive impact in a child's life and future? So, with that said let me begin with the rewards! The first one that comes to mind is the achievements of my students, in more detail student discoveries and the exciting new things they will learn through me teaching in my classroom. In doing so, I can show them how to untangle things they are struggling with, challenges they face, or problems that might occur; by showing them a different light. The smile that comes across a child’s face symbolizing that they understand or I've got it! Is one of the best feelings I feel, a teacher could have. This would show to me that I'm doing my job well and I helped a child cover new exciting things! In hopes that they would not be stuck at a lower intellectual development level; not being able to problem solve. I want to see all of my students excel to their fullest potential! That to me would be one of the best rewards that there could be, because in return I would be given a gift of making a difference. My second reward that I feel is important seems...

...journey bringing both challenges and rewards with reference to ‘Crossing the Red Sea’. A journey brings about both challenges and rewards, without either, a journey cannot exist—there is no purpose. Skrzynecki’s poem ‘Crossing the Red Sea’ depicts a journey of migrants from Poland to Australia after World War II, through the use of such techniques as metaphors, personification and imagery, he conveys to the reader both rewards and challenges the migrants have and will face. The poem title is a biblical reference to the Book of Exodus in which the Red Sea refers to the Sea that Moses had parted and led the Israelites from slavery to God’s promise land, Canaan. The physical journey, the rewards and challenges of the Israelites is parallel to that of the migrants in Skrzynecki’s poem; their voyage from a war-torn communist country to a second chance in life, Australia. ‘Many slept on deck … Stretched out on blankets and pillows / Against cabins an rails’, the beginning of the poem indicate that the migrants are physically on a ship leaving (having left) Poland, the juxtaposition of blankets and pillows to cabins and rails suggests the very first of many challenges they had face; wherein the minds of the reader, cabins and rails creates an image of discomfort as opposed to the comfort of blankets and pillows. Such as there are challenges in a physical journey, rewards are needed to counter and balance such challenges. The poem in its entirety is a challenge in the fact that it is...

...Marketing Anthony Petitte Anthony Petitte Introduction The following case concerns Hilton’s reward program for its guests, the Hilton HHonors, and the possible implications after the introduction of a different reward program introduced by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc. Many companies in different industries use the loyalty reward program as a form of marketing tool to reward their loyal customers. By doing this, they are able to retain their customers and attract other potential customers. The more attractive the loyalty programs are, the more customers the companies get and retain. Customers are attracted based on how they earn points, and the benefits they get when they redeem the points. Many of the industries offering the loyalty programs have a standardized way of doing so because they are more independent and they have definite control. This is unlike the hotel industry, which has no defined control because of franchises and different management. There may be different people controlling the hotel chain despite the chain using the same brand. This makes it hard for the hotels to standardize their loyalty program. The Hilton reward program was effective in retaining and attracting customers, but the hotel chain faced different challenges, which increased its threat of losing its customers. Challenges facing the Hilton Brand The Hilton brand faced some challenges. This came from its competitors, and the small market it served. Although many Americans traveled...

...The Rewards and Challenges of being a Teacher First day of school! First day of teaching! First day to change children's lives! Many first time teachers get discouraged because they aren’t prepared for their first year of teaching. Starting your first job at a new school can be intimidating because you don’t know what that year has in store for you. However it’s okay if you ask other teachers for advice as you work with students throughout the year. Being a teacher comes with a lot of challenges and rewards. Some rewards that I will face while teaching are building relationships with students and parents, influence a child's life, and share my passion for teaching with students. Some of the challenges that I will face while teaching are time management, bullying, and conflict between students. To begin with teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs. A national survey found that teachers are generally satisfied with their career choices and their level of satisfaction has increased in the last 25 years (MetLife, 2009). Teachers have the opportunity to build relationships with students and their parents making their bonds very strong. The teachers spend most of their time with parent’s children and it's important to let parents know that they will be taken care of. I believe that it is important to know each student individually and make every one of them feel like they are important to the teacher and to their classmates. In addition one challenge that I will face is time management...

...of this paper is to examine the compensation challenges within Owens & Minor and create a compensation strategy that will benefit not only the company, but the employee. With the constant change in today’s business world, to have a competitive advantage makes it difficult for employers to attract and retain the most talented employees. Identifying the company’s compensation strategy ensures the organization offers the right pay and manages the pay increases to retain top talents. When we hear the word compensation we think about compensating an employee for their work performed, but there is much more to compensation and a company’s strategy than what a person is paid. Compensation and benefits, “includes not only salary, but also the direct and indirect rewards and benefits the employee is provided with in return for their contribution to the organization. To determine compensation, organizations should develop a compensation and rewards program that outlines an equitable process for compensating employees” (“Compensation and Benefits,” n.d.). This plan is an extremely important piece of the overall HR approach to keep the company competitive and successful in the global market. Throughout this paper we will discuss the compensation and benefits strategy of the organization and recommendations on how to create a well-structured program. As a result of this program; will ensure a good balance of wages, benefits, and rewards as it supports the organization to remain competitive...

...Classic Airlines and Marketing Classic Airlines is the world’s fifth largest airline, but the recent economic situation has affected profits, especially the airline’s customer rewards program. Of all the areas where Classic Airlines’ sales have suffered, the frequent flier program has experienced a 19 percent decrease in members and a 21 percent decrease in flights per remaining member. To ensure the airline continues to be profitable, the Classic Rewards program must rebound. Classic Airlines faces marketing challenges that include changing technology, customization, and customer empowerment. Besides marketing challenges, the current corporate culture at Classic Airlines threatens the success of the company’s plans to revive profits while making budget cuts. Marketing challenges The biggest obstacles to Classic Airlines continued success are rising costs and waning consumer confidence. To recover, Classic Airlines needs to market its customer rewards program, Classic Rewards. Three main marketing challenges exist that contribute to the obstacles and stand between the airline and increased profits: changing technology, customization, and customer empowerment. The digital revolution caused by rapidly changing technology has led to more business being conducted over the internet. Consequently, Classic Airlines has followed suit by setting up an internet based system for customers, which decreased the airlines’ costs by reducing the number of people required to man the call...

...in order to be able to achieve a goal. Motivation can result from a desire or need, rewards from achieved goals, and expectations on oneself or others (Business Dictionary.com). Different things motivate me in the workplace. Three of the biggest motivations that drive me include the need to help support my family financially, the challenges it gives me to better myself, and the rewards and benefits that result from doing a great job. Some days, only one of the factors motivates me, while on other days, it is a mixture of the factors. With the current economy and cost of living here in Hawaii, I feel the need more than ever to contribute to my family’s income. By being able to hold job that offers good benefits and security, I am able to appreciate my job, which in turn motivates me to work hard and produce quality work. Bainbridge’s definition of extrinsic motivation shows that this can be considered as an extrinsic type of motivation since the motivation comes from the outside and the rewards include good benefits and a paycheck (Bainbridge, Extrinsic Motivation). It can also be considered an intrinsic motivation because certain aspects of the job I do are very enjoyable. For example, when I am closing out a project, I get pleasure out of solving the problems that caused accounting errors within that project. My job also provides me with many different challenges. These challenges motivate me to either do better or to learn something new. These motivations come...
