An accomplishment I’m most proud of is choosing to be a STEM major. I’ve always had a passion for technology but I had hesitation. When I started college I was a business major because that’s what I liked and I thought I could be great at it and get a good career. I had my introduction to information technology when I stepped into my digital media class. I had never seen so many MAC’s and I was a bit overwhelmed to say the least about taking that class. I can remember asking myself what had I gotten myself into. Little did I know but this class and most importantly the professors’ guidance intrigued me. ...In the past few years, two conspiracy theories have become major headline issues: vaccinations and global warming. First, there has been a large notion that vaccine usage is linked with the development of autism in children. As a result, parents who believe this theory prevent their children from being vaccinated, despite no clear evidence showing a connection. As Jolley illustrates, the invention of the vaccine was a huge scientific accomplishment that ended diseases such as measles, mumps, and rubella. It is thought that the theory that vaccines cause autism originates from a piece by Andrew Wakefield in 1998 in The Lancet, and his evidence presented since then has been debunked along with his medical license being revoke. Regardless, the anti-vax movement continued strong with clear repercussions, claiming “Big Pharma” attempts to cover up side effects of their vaccinations in the name of profit. Equality of the sexes (in terms of rights) and the furthering of women's rights are seemingly positive aspirations; yet people tend to describe feminism using negative terms, and feminism today has acquired a bad reputation. "Radical" and "extremists" are adjectives commonly applied to feminism as a whole, when, in truth, feminists who adopt extreme positions constitute the minority. Moreover, these "gender feminists," or "militant feminists," as many call them, although they receive the most public attention because of their aggressive tactics and high visibility, alienate people in broadcasting their views.
