The Dali Museum was reviewed on September 27, 2014. The reviewer attended the museum with his father. The museum is located in St. Petersburg, Florida. It is solely dedicated to Salvador Dali. Only Europe has a museum with a larger collection of Dali’s art.
The Dali Museum is located on the waterfront of St. Petersburg, Florida. It is near the Albert Whitted Airport, which can be seen from the museum. Right at the entrance there is the “fountain of youth” and the living wall. On the opening floor there is a store, café, classroom, theatre, Raymond James Room, and a door that leads to a garden. In the store there is the “Rainy Rolls” which pays homage to Salvador Dali’s Rainy Taxi. The theatre is where they show a biography of Dali’s life. …show more content…
He continued to soak in different art through magazines and going to artistic schools. He was expelled from the institution in 1924. He was also imprisoned due to antigovernment activities. From 1929 to 1937 Dali cranked out paintings that enabled him to become world famous for his surreal paintings. “He depicted a dream world in which commonplace objects are juxtaposed, deformed, or otherwise metamorphosed in a bizarre and irrational fashion” (Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica). In 1929 he met his future wife Gala. Gala was married at the time and the two entered into a lengthy affair. It wasn’t until 1934 did the two got married. She was ten years older than he was. He was also born in modern day Italy, though he sailed under Spain’s flag on the voyages that ultimately discovered the new world. At the time Dali painted this there was some arguments that Columbus was in fact Catalonian instead of Italian. The first thing is that Columbus is depicted as an adolescent. He is wearing classical robes as well. In one hand Columbus is leading his ship to shore. In his other hand he is holding a banner of Saint Helena (or Virgin Mary).
