LIQUIDITY Generally, what is the company's ability to meet obligations as they come due? In this case, the company's liquidity position is about average for the industry in which it operates. Having average liquidity means that, generally, there are adequate liquid assets relative to short-term obligations. This does not necessarily mean that the firm will never have trouble paying the bills, but it indicates that as of this specific Balance Sheet date, the company is in a reasonable position. However, it is always important to keep in mind that liquidity is a volatile statistic that can move from good to poor very quickly. For this reason, it is more important to watch trends than raw data in this area. As of these two discrete dates, the company's liquidity trend is downward, so managers will probably want to examine the reasons for this shift and make sure that liquid resources are being used in the best ways for the company. For example, does the company have an adequate line of credit set up? Remember that typically, increasing sales (as this company has done) demands cash resources. Liquidity is the challenge that is never solved. Here are some additional ways the company might improve liquidity: 1) Bill customers as quickly as possible after service has been rendered. There are always ways to streamline this process. 2) Make sure to print and take action on accounts receivable reports each month. 3) Use as much trade credit (accounts payable) as possible. Accounts payable are a form of free credit, since they often do not carry interest charges. 4) If possible, the company might also use a monthly payroll schedule.

The results are based on a sample of 186 announcements of ERP implementations, 140 SCM implementations, and 80 CRM implementations. Our analysis of the financial benefits of these implementations yields mixed results. In the case of ERP systems, we observe some evidence of improvements in profitability but not in stock returns. The results for improvements in profitability are stronger in the case of early adopters of ERP systems. On average, adopters of SCM system experience positive stock returns as well as improvements in profitability. There is no evidence of improvements in stock returns or profitability for firms that have invested in CRM. SYNOPSIS: Different opinions exist with respect to the usefulness of financial information for operational decision making. While academics encourage the provision of accounting information on quality, few companies provide it. This article explores the usefulness (or lack thereof) of Cost of Quality (COQ) and quality-related financial information through the use of a survey and informal discussions and interviews with quality managers. Financial information can be used to flag quality problems, to select and prioritize quality improvement projects and to choose corrective action. The results suggest that financial information has a limited role in supporting these operational decisions. The limitations of current COQ systems, and the lack of relevant, reliable and timely financial information, are among the reasons cited for not using COQ. However, there is a perceived need for additional financial reporting in order to attract the attention of top management and to motivate managers. The research is conducted for the period of 2002-2010 by using pooled panel analysis with annual data. In this study, we examine whether ERP system implementations have impacted the decision usefulness of accounting information. We find that ERP adoptions lead to a trade-off between increased information relevancy and decreased information reliability for external users of financial statements. After implementing the system, firms concurrently experience both a decrease in reporting lag and an increase in the level of discretionary accruals. Contrary to expectations, adopting more ERP modules did not augment these effects.
