...are filled with so much imagination. The story “The Most Dangerous Game, Sanger Rainsford, the main character is quite disturbing as a person because of the comments made throughout the story. The story is an inversion of the big-game hunting safaris in Africa and South America that were fashionable among wealthy Americans in the 1920s. It is considered to be the paradigm example for the man vs. man plot archetype. On the other hand in the story “The Destructors”, the main character, Trevor has conflicting feelings and actions so trying to figure out who he really is, is confusing. The Burmese tiger pit gave him more chance of surviving the game. The last but not least is the way he could swim long distances. The Malay Mancatcher gave him more time to think about what he was going to do with General Zaroff. The Malay Mancatcher was one of the ideas that gave him more chance of surviving in Ship-Trap Island. “Rainsford,” called the general, “ if you are within sound of my voice, as I suppose you are, let me congratulate you. Not many men know how to make a Malay mancatcher. Luckily for me I, too, have hunted in Malacca. You are proving interesting, Mr. Rainsford. I am going to have my wound dressed; it only a slight one. But I shall be back. I shall be back.” (Connell 26). This gives Rainsford more time to think about a way to get out of the island. He is also showing that he is capable of winning the game and that he is a good competition. As well as the Malay mancatcher, the Burmese tiger pit helped Rainsford win the game....

The Most Dangerous Game Critique

...of literature. This story is about a world renowned hunter, Sanger Rainsford, who is sailing to Brazil to hunt jaguars. As his ship passes Ship Trap Island, he accidently falls overboard and manages to swims ashore. There he discovers a mansion occupied by a Russian Cossack General Zaroff and his deaf mute servant Ivan. The General, an excellent hunter himself, has become bored of hunting animals so he lures ships to his island and captures and hunts the sailors for his entertainment. When Rainsford refuses to join in hunting other humans, he becomes one of the hunted. He is given three days to try to elude capture from the General, Ivan, and his hounds. After the three days have passed and he has outsmarted the General and avoided being captured, the general honors him and presumably lets him go. First, the author discreetly displays his prejudice views, by establishing the main characters as white men, wealthy, fit, and healthy. This subtly discriminates against anyone not white, wealthy, or able-bodied. Next he sets both evil characters, Ivan and General Zaroff, as Russians, the author speaks this out when after Rainsford asks the General of Ivan’s nationality he responds, "He is a Cossack, said the general, and his smile showed red lips and pointed teeth. So am I." by portraying them as such he shows bias against Russians. Next the author depicts the bias that a predator has toward its prey. Both Rainsford and the general are predatory men who are found to display no...
