Introduction:

In any organizations, there are a variety of conflicts that limit productivity. Some conflicts get resolved in a professional manner, and others cross the professional line and create a huge mess. In this case, Scenario Four: The New Kid in Town defines the definition of “conflict” in an organization. In this scenario, a new, qualified Communication Officer was hired to work alongside an agency. Throughout time, this new hire disregarded the current project others were working on for a client. In the end, the client and new hire wanted the writing piece similar to another organization’s visual standards. This conflict within the agency was troubling when creating the client’s business end goal.

The P in the P.R.I.D.E Model is Product, and this involves the price, quality, expectation, and problem solving. In this case, the P was highly affected in The New Kid in Town scenario. Before the new hire became a part of the organization, the product (PR plan) was already in place for three months from highly skilled employees. The new hire who was bright and capable, completely lacked professionalism, as he or she demanded to put their own ideas into this current project. They lacked appreciation of the hard work of others and entirely erased the plans for the client’s business plan. The client and agency already approved the project that was already set, but it did not meet the new hires vision. The product had to be set their own way, which created communication issues with others. In the end, the product went up in price and the project duplicated the work of another organization. The R in the P.R.I.D.E Model is Relationship, and this involves values and an overall well-established liaison between those involved. In this case, the R was highly affected in The New Kid in Town scenario. In any organizations, strong relationships must be formed in order to create synergy between everyone. From the start, developing well-defined, transparent proposals; setting effective meetings; creating detailed paths; and setting early progress reports will set an effective communication plan from the start. This will in turn allow for effective listening skills and action-oriented liaison for everyone involved. For The New Kid in Town scenario, all listed above would have created a better environment for communicating and developing the needs for the client. However, the client should have contacted the agency beforehand letting them know that a new hire will be joining the team. This would have created less of a surprise for the new employees. The client should have updated the new hire information about the agency and the current project that was on going. From there, the new hire should have done extra extensive background research to have a better mind set before coming in headstrong. The client should have created a pre-meeting with the new hire and current employees working on the project, so the client can introduce the new hire and find a common ground with everyone during the project. From there, frequent meetings should have been present to address any confusions and questions to fully understand the breakdown of the business plan.
