DESCRIPTION: This Use Case is to describe the process for Customers to get a library card and become Patrons

PRE-CONDITION: A customer must provide valid ID for application to become a patron
TRIGGER: Desire to check out an asset of the library
TYPICAL COURSE Actor Action System Response
OF EVENTS: Step 1: Customer requests to apply for a Library Card Step 2: Library Administrator asks customer for valid ID – Driver’s License or State ID showing Scooterville community of proof of residency Step 3: Customer provides required proof of identification. Step 4: Library Administrator completes application process on SCOOTS terminal and asks for $5.00 cash fee. Step 5: Customer pays $5.00 cash Step 6: Library Administrator issues receipt. Step 7: Customer becomes a Patron and waits for card to be printed. Step 8: Library Administrator prints and hands Library card to the new Patron with an expiration date of 2 years and issues PIN using the last 4 digits of the customer’s phone number for card usage. Step 9: Patron receives a Library Card and PIN number.
ALTERNATE COURSE1 : ALT 1 Step 2: Proof of Residency: If residency cannot be established (no valid proof of residency) event is terminated. If residency is not in the State of TN, the activity is terminated If the residency is from another area within TN other than Scooterville, and customer is over 14 years of age, go to ALT 2. If the customer is a minor (under 14 years of age) with guardian and resides within Scooterville, TN, go to ALT 3. If customer is a minor without a guardian, and resides within Scooterville, TN, go to ALT 4. If customer is a minor (under 14 years of age) with a guardian and does not reside in Scooterville, TN, but resides within the State of TN, go to ALT 2. If customer is a minor (under 14 years of age) without a guardian present and does not reside in Scooterville, TN, but resides within the State of TN, Go to ALT 5. ALT 1 Step 5: If customer does not have cash, the event is terminated
ALTERNATE COURSE2 : ALT 2 Step 2: If customer is a resident of TN, but a not a resident of Scooterville, customer provides a valid ID for the customer includes a driver’s and a valid library card of customer’s community of residence. ALT 2 Step 3: Customer provides valid ID and proof of valid Library card from another library in TN. ALT 2 Step 4: Library Administrator completes application process on SCOOTS terminal and asks for $10.00 cash or check fee. ALT 2 Step 5: Customer pays $10.00 cash or check. If customer does not have cash or check, the event is terminated ALT 2 Step 8: Library Administrator prints and hands Library card to the new Patron with an expiration date of 1 year and issues PIN using the last 4 digits of the customer’s phone number for card usage.
ALTERNATE COURSE3 : ALT 3 Step 2: Customer is a minor with the parent guardian present for the transaction. Guardian of customer is a resident of TN, but a not a resident of Scooterville, customer guardian provides a valid ID for the customer includes a driver’s and a valid library card of customer’s community of residence. The parent shows identification as a voucher for the minor. ALT 3 Step 5: If customer does not have cash, the event is terminated
ALTERNATE COURSE4: ALT 4 Step 3: Customer is a minor under the age of 14, without the parent guardian present, and resides within Scooterville, TN. Customer provides address of residence. ALT 4 Step 5: If customer does not have cash, the event is terminated ALT 4 Step 7: Customer becomes a Patron and waits for card to be mailed to their home. ALT 4 Step 8a: Library Administrator prints and mails a letter to the guardians of the minor. ALT 4 Step 8b: Library Administrator prints and mails Library card with PIN using the last 4 digits of the customer’s phone number for card usage to minor’s home address with an expiration date of 2 years.
ALTERNATE COURSE 5: ALT 5 Step 3: Customer is a minor under the age of 14, without the parent guardian present, and does not reside within Scooterville, TN, but resides in TN. Customer provides address of residence. ALT 5 Step 4: Library Administrator completes application process on SCOOTS terminal and asks for $10.00 cash or check fee. ALT 5 Step 5: Customer pays $10.00 cash or check. If customer does not have cash or check, the event is terminated minor. ALT 5 Step 7: Customer becomes a Patron and waits for card to be mailed to their home. ALT 5 Step 8a: Library Administrator prints and mails a letter to the guardians of the minor. ALT 5 Step 8b: Library Administrator prints and mails Library card with PIN using the last 4 digits of the customer’s phone number for card usage to minor’s home address with an expiration date of 1 year.
CONCLUSION: The business case is complete when all steps have been completed

ASSUMPTIONS: • Library Administrator has searched to assure this is a for a new Library Card (Patron has not been issued one in the past and is not on file)
• Minors (under the age of 14) present with a guardian: Guardian is the legal guardian of minor.
• Minors (under the age of 14) present without a guardian are giving correct address and correct legal guardian information.
• The RFP did not address the concern of a customer is a minor (under 14 years of age) with or without a guardian present and does not reside in Scooterville, TN, but resides within the State of TN. The information was further investigated and discovered as noted in ALT 1 and ALT 5.
OPEN ISSUES: • PIN duplicated for residents sharing same address
