1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1.1 Background of the Problem The Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parochial School started as a preschool in 1968. Classes were held in a one-room makeshift building beside the parish hall. Since it received an enthusiastic response from the Catholic parents, its enrollment increased at an unexpected rate. The Catholic Women’s League Unit of the parish was first tasked to take charge of the management of the school as part of its apostolate. In the school-year 1980 – 1981, the school was registered as a non -stock, non – profit corporation with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Official Recognition was granted by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports on October 21, 1987 for the Elementary Department. The High School Department was extended Recognition by the Department of Education on July 31, 2002 . Thus the school offers a complete pre-school (nursery, kindergarten, preparatory), and basic education: elementary (Grades 1-6) and high school (1st to 4th Year ). At present, the school is housed in a four-storey building with forty two classrooms, and offices for: Administration and Finance, Rooms for the Faculty (4) and Non-Academic Staff, Library – AVR, Pre-School Learning Resource Center, Guidance Center, Center for Integral Evangelization (CIE), Student Affairs, two Computer Laboratories, (elementary and high school), Laboratories for Technology and Home Economics (THE), 2 Science Laboratories, Industrial Laboratory, Speech Laboratory, Digital Library, Digital AVR, Canteen and Supplies, Clinic (for Medical and Dental Services), Printing, Gymnasium, Auditorium etc. Since it caters to the quality educational needs of the middle to the lower income group of the parish community, the Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parochial School has always maintained its tuition and other fees at the lowest possible level. The Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parochial School is markedly identified with the Roman Catholic Church as an instrument for the continuing process of evangelization; sharing in the vision of the Diocese of Antipolo in being “a community of disciples of the Risen Christ ”. The formation being given to the students includes not only academic proficiency, but more importantly Catholic doctrines, Gospel values for the Filipino Catholic way of life. The rich and meaningful history of the Parish of Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu dates back to the early Spanish era of 1596, when the Augustinians friars built the first settlements in the place. In the year August 29, 1659, the first parish was built under and in honor of the patron St. Matthew (San Mateo), the apostle and evangelist. But in December 6, 1696, the Jesuits came and gained control of the town. Thus, in 1705, a Jesuit priest, Fr. Juan Echazabal, started the devotion to our Lady of Aranzazu from Spain and changed the patron of the town from St. Matthew to Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu.

In 1715, the first concrete church was built but was destroyed in 1863 by a devastating earthquake. In 1887 the church was rebuilt and repaired but was again destroyed by the war of 1942 during the Japanese occupation. In the year 1990, the bell tower was repaired after the earthquake of July 16 of the same year. And in 1993, the whole church, including the main altar, was repaired and refurnished.

Only last February 2004, the Parish of Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu was proclaimed as a Diocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Aranzazu by the Vatican, being the only church in the Philippines under the title of Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu and only sister-parish of the Basilica of Aranzazu in Spain. The canonical erection of the shrine is scheduled on June this year.

1.1.2 Overview of the Current State of Technology
Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parochial School is registered as a non-stock, non-profit corporation with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
A teacher gives his/her students an examination. He/she then checks those exams. After determining the scores the teacher records each scores of individual students. After a quarter term those records are submitted to the MIS Department. The MIS Officer then inputs those records to a Computerized Grading System to compute the grades again. The system also displays whether the students have pass or failed. Then the records are pass on to the Assistant Principal of the Preschool, Elementary and the High School Department. After it is approved by them the Principal and the School Director signs the grade cards of the students. 1.1.3 Project Rationale To Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parochial School
The proposed system will help the school to have a new Computerized Grading System that will be compatible to the new curriculum called K-12 program. In the hopes that this system will make their work easier. It provides them a more flexible and reliable system to compute their grades. To the Proponents
They will gain the essential skills and knowledge that they can use in their present study or future careers. This will also help them to learn how to develop a computerized grading system on how they will work on the documentation, programming and conducting a research.

To the Future Researchers
This will benefit other developers who wish to have similar studies as they can get background information from the result of this study which will serve as template to modify their research.
1.2 Statement of the Objectives 1.2.1 General Objectives
To design and develop a Computerized Grading System for Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parochial School to improve the computation of grades for the students.

1.2.2 Specific Objectives
1.2.2.1 To design and develop a computerized file maintenance module that will handle who is the student, what are the subjects he/she is enrolled on, and what year level he/ she is.
The proponents will create a file maintenance module that can organize their files. The module will display the information about the student’s grades. Here you can edit the student’s name, their subjects, and what is their year level.
1.2.2.2 To design and develop a computation module that will handle that computation of the scores and the breakdown of their grades.
The proponents will make a computation module that will help the school to compute the grades easier. The user could see the score, the total items, and the equivalent score. The user could also set how percentage the quiz, exams, etc. depending on what are his preferences.
1.2.2.3 To design and develop a view module where you can view all the information about a student pertaining to what are his/her subjects, year level, and grades.
The proponents will make a view module that will show all information about the grades of the student.
1.2.2.4 To design and develop a utilities module that can restore or backup the information. The proponents will create a system that will make a module that can provide a backup or restore information.
1.3 Significance of the study The study will benefit the: Company
It will help the company to have an organized and system for the use of its employees. Clients
It will help in making their work easier and efficient. Proponents
It will help the proponents to further their skills in analyzing, designing, and developing a system.

1.4 Scope and Limitation 1.4.1 Scope 1.4.1.1 Student File Maintenance Module
In this module the user could input the information about the student. Those data include information about the student and his/her parent. 1.4.1.2 Teacher File Maintenance 1.4.1.2 Grade Computation Module
In this module the user could input the student’s scores in exams, his/her grades in other requirements and participation, and compute for the equivalent grade. The user could also manipulate how much percentage each will be in the final grade. 1.4.1.3 View Module
In this module the user could view and monitor the grades of the students. All important information is displayed here. But the user could not manipulate data here, they could just view it here compiled altogether.

Here the user could view the individual student’s grades.

In this module the user could view grades of all students in a section in the same subject. 1.4.1.3 BackUp

1.4.2 Limitation
1.4.2.1 The system will not focus on enrolling a student to Nuestra Señora de Aranzazu Parochial School.
1.4.2.2 The system will not record any violations or achievements done by the student.
