Self-awareness is the awareness that one exists as an individual being. Without self-awareness the self perceives and accepts the thoughts that are occurring to be who the self is. Self-awareness gives one the option or choice to choose thoughts being thought rather than simply thinking the thoughts that are stimulated from the accumulative events leading up to the circumstances of the moment.

Self-Awareness Theory states that when we focus our attention on ourselves, we evaluate and compare our current behavior to our internal standards and values. We become self-conscious as objective evaluators of ourselves. Various emotional states are intensified by self-awareness, and people sometimes try to reduce or escape it through things like television, video games, drugs, etc. However, some people may seek to increase their self-awareness through these outlets. People are more likely to align their behavior with their standards when made self-aware. People will be negatively affected if they don't live up to their personal standards. Various environmental cues and situations induce awareness of the self, such as mirrors, an audience, or being videotaped or recorded. These cues also increase accuracy of personal memory

Self-awareness will provide an internal picture of how you perceive yourself. Your self-image is responsible for your everyday relations to your family, friends and day-by-day acquaintances. A good self-image will make your life and the people around you happy. A bad self-image can make your life miserable.
Self-awareness is a tool, which is indispensable to promote our happiness, success in life and ability to interact with our family, friends and associates. It is a reflection and deep searching into our abilities, strengths and weaknesses. It also reveals our fears and triggers alertness to our innermost desires.
It is amazing how few people ever use this device which is a powerful revelation into our inner workings and which will help us to successfully recognize our everyday actions, which bring us joy and satisfaction or reveal those things that cause us to feel substandard about how others relate to us.
Introspection should be performed often, particularly when we are troubled by some action, attitude or occurrence, which causes us anguish. It is a necessity to perform it before we consider any important exploit, which we plan to explore.
We need to understand ourselves to know if we are on the right tract or whether we need to make changes in how we should handle everyday circumstances. It is far better to shape our actions based how we perceive ourselves than to change according to how others comprehend us. If we are in command of ourselves, we will be viewed as leaders and looked up to by our peers.
Our future success in life can be assured by using the act of looking into ourselves to determine the direction toward which our best abilities lay and which reveals our strongest skills and talents. We must do this rather than leave our future to chance. It is far better to create our own map towards success and then to endeavor to follow that plan.
Insight into us is important at any age or condition of our lives. Before we begin any endeavor, it is necessary to look inside our psyche to discover how much we know about that undertaking and to reveal how much we need to learn to be successful at it.
When examining our inner awareness, it is helpful to list on a sheet of paper what we feel are our strong points and what we feel needs improving. It is necessary to look deeply into ourselves in order to explore every nook, cranny and corner of our consciousness. What you will find may be surprising and will definitely be enlightening. In this day of computers, we can easily seek out and find ideas and suggestions on how to achieve the upgrading of whatever we seek to improve.
Don`t let another day go by without planning to sit down and look inside yourself.

Self awareness is how you direct your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. You will see your life differently when you are directing your own life instead of it directing you. When you express love, acceptance, and respect, you create happiness within your self.
Changing your awareness does not mean be aware of your surroundings. It means be aware of yourself and thoughts. How you perceive the world through your eyes, and controlling these emotions. Whether it is out of love or fear; it gives you awareness of your thoughts and how you react to them.
It is through self awareness that you identify and change your beliefs that drive destructive behaviors and create happiness. Increasing this awareness has more to do with emptying your mind of knowledge so we can see ourselves more clearly.
For example, I was diagnosed with a debilitating disease that required me to change how I think and perceive the world around me. Medication helps control my symptoms; but it was I who had to look deep within myself to decide if I was going to let this disease control me, or am I going to make the effort to help myself. It was then that I had to take a step back and look objectively at my own situation and create a constructive solution to change it based on my values; my self.
When we suffer from things that go awry such as relationships, jobs, social status, religion, wealth, fame or health, none of these things are you. This is living in the physical world, products of your mind; but since these things can be volatile; relying on them for happiness and your sense of self will only lead to suffering.
Moving toward the path of self awareness is not hard. There are many tips on growing your self awareness. Meditation is a great example. The best time to practice this is when you are in a moment of extreme emotion; such as being sad, depressed or even angry. If you get to this point, and you will, stop yourself and notice how you are feeling. If you are mad, notice the rage within. Notice how your heart is pumping. Ask yourself questions like, why do you feel this way; do I like feeling this; or even just feel the energy pulsating through your body.
Just by doing this exercise you are now self aware. If this exercise works then go further and decide if these actions are helping, and if not, then to use your power to change it based not on other patterns of mind, but based on values that are your true Self.

Le Bon (1895), a French social psychologist and sociologist was the first to recognise how an individual’s behaviour changes when s/he is part of a crowd. The most important factor is anonymity.
