...SEFL RESPECT AND DIGNIY FOR ELDERLY RESIDENT The way Mr Moses was treated by the staff gave me concern see appendix 2 This now gave me an interest into this topic as to acquit myself before escalating the matter. I was involved in the care for Mr Moses who has diagnosed with dementia. Dementia is a chronic lifelong condition that causes memory loss, communication problems, incontinence and neglect of personal hygiene (Prime, 1994 p, 301). Mr Moses neglect of his personal hygiene was profound due to his incontinence condition Dignity mean “Being treated like I was somebody” (Help the Aged, 2001).Relating dignity in the care Mr Moses, dignity will be define as care given to Mr Moses that will uphold, promote and not degrade his self respect despite his present situation (being wet with urine and smell of faeces), frail or his age (SCIE, 2006). Mr Moses despite his present circumstance should feel value before, during and after his care (Nursing Standard, 2007). The concept of dignity has to do with privacy, respect, autonomy, identity and self worth thereby making life worth living for them (SCIE, 2006). However, each patient needs is unique, the level of these concept will varies on individual service user, such as the privacy that other service user need will be different from what Mr Moses require at the time of His care. ...The Self-respect of Nations: The Philippines and China by W. Scott Thompson and Oliver Geronilla Somewhere in the first of Trollope’s 6-volume set Palliser Novels, “the Prime Minister,” the Duke of Omnium, also the premier, tells his usually silly wife that—and we paraphrase—nations are like people: they elicit respect from outside powers to about the same extent that they do so on a personal basis—according to how much respect they give themselves. We respect countries and people who respect themselves. Costa Rica is truly a tiny country, but it eliminated its military, developed peaceful relations with its neighbors, and is by far the most prestigious country in its neighborhood. Botswana, considerably the richest black state in Africa, even used its adversity during a drought to make itself still richer, but had a unified proud country pulling with it. Recently, we have been reading with great interest the debate in the Philippine press-- the most substantive debate on foreign policy we have seen here-- on how to deal with China. But we are bothered by a few things. Let’s get some facts straight first. The Philippines is not a ‘small’ country and it is not a ‘powerless’ country. It’s going beyond even being a middle-sized country as it hits the 100million mark. In all respects, China is bigger, richer, and far more militarily powerful. So? What else is new? Throughout history, smaller countries have had to find ways of dealing with stronger ones. The...

...U05a1- Character, Dignity, and Self-Respect This paper will explain the character, dignity, and self-respect demonstrated in the movie “Glory” by Edward Zwick. The story is based on the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the first formal unity of the U.S. Army to be made up entirely of African-American men as told from the point of Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, its commanding officer during the American Civil War. Captain Robert Gould Shaw leads a company of Union soldiers from a Massachusetts Infantry Regiment in an attack on Confederate troops at the Battle of Antietam of September 17, 1862 (Davies, 2001). His regiment suffers many losses. Shaw is wounded and later loses consciousness. He is awakened by a black gravedigger name John Rawlins and is sent to a hospital. While at the hospital, Shaw is told that President Lincoln is on the verge of passing the Emancipation Proclamation freeing slaves in rebel held territory. While on leave in Boston, Shaw is promotes to Colonel and is given command of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. It is the first all-black regiment of the U.S. Army. The first character to show ethics based on Epictetus was Shaw’s friend and educated black man named Thomas Searles; Searles is the first black man to volunteer in the 54th Regiment. Epictetus believed that even though he could not control what occurred outside of himself, he could control how he responded (Sommers & Sommers, 2013). The fact that Thomas volunteered...

...What do I believe to be important as the best coach I can be? Well, for me it is treating every player I coach with complete respect, fairness, open communication with every one of them and building a long trusting relationship with each other. If I show them these characters from within myself it is my hope that they will model it for themselves, for me, their teammates, the officials, the fans, their parents and by all opposing teams, too. My main objective when I coach any team is I want to help them develop psychologically. I remind them often to have fun, celebrate their wins, loses or moments of opportunities that are presented to them. I have the knowledge I want to pass it on to those who do not, I also believe that playing sports, as a child not only builds character and confidence but also gives them a sense of accomplishment. It goes to the part in the book about self-knowledge, self-esteem and self-disclosure that if I expect myself to be like this, I want all my players to see their total self as well. The core part of my philosophy is an athlete first and winning comes second. This makes my coaching style to be cooperative style. This has always been my coaching philosophy, I have used on the field, as a team I will let them set their own guidelines for themselves among the team. I will let them hold each other accountable to their guidelines since they are the ones that created them with their list of values, guidelines and behaviors. This is part of being honest...

...principles of sportsmanship and set a good example to their players (Clifford & Feezell, 2010). A big part of coaching deals with player relationship, not just the X and O’s. As a coach, you are a role model and moral educator. Coaches should motivate their players to be competitive while showing a mutual respect for the game. The point of the game is to win, and that is what we should be teaching our children, however when athletes become so competitive that they do whatever it takes in order to win, sportsmanship ends up getting thrown out the window. Sportsmanship We may be able to give a general definition of what sportsmanship is, but it’s difficult for coaches to teach exactly what the sportsmanlike thing to do is in every particular situation (Clifford & Feezell, 2010). Self-understanding has a big part to do with sportsmanship. Coaches must teach their athletes to come to terms with limits and understanding what you can and cannot do. The principles of sportsmanship are expressed in different ways because of different cultures and personalities. Expecting all athletes to behave in exactly the same way is a tough thing for coaches to do. However, athletes must respect the rules of the game at all times. When these rules are broken the team is penalized. Sportsmanship is not just about following the rules, or behaving a certain way because that’s the way you are supposed to ; its more about what sort of human beings we chose to be. For example, when the University...

...In the world we live in today, there are many skills or personal capabilities that contribute to the positive social development of a child. Some very important social skills that a child must possess include respecting others, the ability to communicate, having a positive self image, and to be a good problem solver. Respecting others and treating people how you want to be treated is the right thing to do and makes for a more peaceful society. Children will earn the respect of adults by showing trust, discipline, responsibility, love, and knowledge. Adults were once children and it is said the longer you live the more you learn. The ability to communicate effectively allows children to understand questions from teachers, peers, or other adults and to express their feelings or thoughts about those questions. Communication is also a key concept in making new friendships. Friendships are mostly created between people who have things in common like religion, sports, education, or hobbies. Having a positive self image allows for a child to be confident, and this usually leads to a successful person both in and out of the classroom. A confident child will usually have good grades and is also a very popular person with a lot of friends. Children that are good problem solvers excel in the classroom, especially in the core subjects of math and science. Keywords: Experiences, people, feelings, understand acceptance and respect. This topic is furthermore better than I thought it would be when I first chose it. Validation strategies consists in respect ourselves, builds trust, listen, respects others, respect our and others’ experiences. Validation is a simple concept to understand but difficult for so many people to practice. Is when you are in a conflict with someone and you stop that kind of conflict making that fight becomes a normal conversation. That’s why we can say that validation works by stopping the fight before it begins because that is the final objective. It is also a very important process in everyone’s life nowadays because normally a lot of people don’t respect themselves and they don’t even respect others. That’s why I think this is so important to learn and understand because these strategies consists in respect our and others feelings and experiences. It means that we should respect what the others are saying and you should respect what you are feeling at that time. Validation basically means letting the other people know that you accept and respect their feelings, Standing in their shoes- empathy, making them feel important and intelligent. For a lot of people might be very common to think that validation is just when you accept what the other person is saying...

...themes “Respect” and “Identity Crisis” are among the issues that are allude for the reader to grasp, and perhaps see the connection with the reality of life. “Respect” is being discussed in the story, as Luke does not receive the respect he deserved, neither from his family nor employer. His wife, son and boss do not have high regard towards him due to his timid character. In other words, you could say they are disrespectful towards Luke. However, disrespectful is not the theme being discussed. Disrespectful is the attitude shown to Luke. What the author is trying to convey is, in life, respect is at the utmost importance. It is important to improve respect because of the impacts that respect has both on the relationship and results. As an analogy, when a man works with someone where he has little respect or no respect, he tends to go out of his way to avoid the person. Conversely, in a work relationship, he may still avoid that person, suffer the frustration of having to deal with them, or quit and stay in the job and continue to make himself miserable. Similarly, that is what happening in Luke’s family and the people around him. They have to deal with the frustration of dealing with Luke as he is the husband, father and the oldest employer as they have lack of respect and show their disrespectfulness as a way to manage the exasperation that they are having with him. Consequently, Luke has a poor relationship with the people around him as a result of lack of respect. Another...

...tentacles. They will call it Jorge. In Martín Espada’s “Jorge the Church Janitor Finally Quits, “the poet points out that he is from another country. His work is to mop the floor in the church where is the most clean and holy place in this city. He works hard for his life. However, none respect him in this country. He cannot bear this kind of insult and disrespect. In order to keep his dignity, he quits his job. Although, he now cannot make a living, he regards the respect and dignity as the most expensive things in his life. The poet gradually reveals his upset and loneness in every stanza. In first stanza, he begins with “no on asks where I am from.” From this quote, he tells how lonely he is in this city. He has no friend and no one cares about him. He is outsider of this city, so he just can concentrate on working every day. For the second stanza, he also begins with the sentence “no one can speak my name.” In other people’s eyes, he is just a worker who mops the floor and cleans the toilet. People will notice him when there is no toilet paper and his name does not deserve others to remember. He tells how he is disrespected in this city as a worker and outsider. However, he respects himself under this condition. He does not feel he is inferior to others and he is not shamed as a worker. The third...
