Senioritis, what exactly is it? It is what it sounds like. People can describe it as the way seniors get toward the end of the school year. Not only seniors, but teachers can get this way too. They get extremely lazy and unmotivated. The urban dictionary defines senioritis as “A crippling disease that strikes high school seniors. Symptoms include: laziness, an over-excessive wearing of track pants, old athletic shirts, sweatpants, athletic shorts, and sweatshirts. Also features a lack of studying, repeated absences, and a generally dismissive attitude. The only known cure is a phenomenon known as Graduation.” Sounds pretty accurate, right? In other words, it is when someone is not motivated by rewards or prizes, they are motivated for themselves. For example, if a student is making honor roll because he wants to make himself feel good. That is intrinsic motivation because they are doing it for themselves. Also, if you have intrinsic motivation, it can help build your self-esteem because you are telling yourself that you can do it and it will build your confidence. Something that I am intrinsically motivated to do is to get better in my sports. For example, in track, I am not going to go half speed and not put 100 effort into my workout.
