...Response Paper Humanity has held varying perspectives concerning religion and deity. In our current world there are countless religious beliefs such as Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, Judaism and Atheism to name a few. The vast majority of these are monotheistic or polytheistic with the exception of Atheism which is absent of any belief in a deity. In each dogmatic structure a formula is provided as a means to live a meaningful life, some to self-satisfaction, in serving others and one in serving a loving God. However, Atheism holds to a belief that there is no afterlife only an end of all existence. With this in mind and there being various religious aspects we must ponder the question, how can humanity reject or disallow the everlasting father, the one true God? Many are the disputes for and against the existence of a God and many have proven to be confusing and misguided to say the least but do propose strong arguments that should be understood. An article by Australian philosopher H. J. McCloskey titled, “On Being an Atheist” presents a seemingly very compelling pro-atheist argument. McCloskey wastes no time and opens his article by explaining the flawed belief systems of theism. Although there are a other arguments to be considered in formulating a solid perspective McCloskey chooses to remain in the scope of three, the Cosmological, Teleological and the argument of design. Cosmological arguments endeavor to surmise the existence of God...

...Categorizing altruistic desires as authentic and individualistic desires as ones that are solely promoted by a current economic system ignores the dualistic nature of human beings. The reality is that we share both humanitarian and self-serving inclinations, and the dynamic interplay between the two is essential for a life of awareness. We are free because of the ability to choose in and of itself, not because of what it is we choose to engage in. Odonians, ignoring the darker half of human nature, never have the ability to engage in the very moral deliberation that keeps us alive. Thus, they are never free, and the ease at which they live is the result of simplistic notions of humanity, rather than the transcendent act of living simply. A...

I have never witnessed any person display embarrassment for the need for assistance, in fact, I had not thought about that emotion until this assignment. Each person I have encountered either dropping off or in need have resided authentically friendly and appreciative. Genuinely, I do not believe that any person possesses expectations. Consequently, I do believe true altruism exists. The Roles of Altruism Like self-control, altruism exists as a valued temporally extended behavioral system, which may exist cultured and affirmed over a person's lifespan, and does not require an inherited trait. Exclusive decrees of altruism, each of which can withhold benefits or cause harm to the actor, can reside advantageous if the act takes place repeatedly....

...Thomas Paine played a role in altering Americans perceptions of Britain. Thomas Paine was a Founding Father and later on in his life began writing in serious, publishing several articles, anonymously or under pen names. One of his early articles was a scornful criticism of the African slave trade, called "African Slavery in America," which he signed under the name "Justice and Humanity." Paine also wrote about his general views and thoughts on revolution and injustice. After the battles of Lexington and Concord, Paine argued that America should not simply revolt against taxation, but demand independence from Great Britain entirely, republican state governments, and a union of new states. He enlarged this idea in a pamphlet called the "Common Sense," which was printed in January 1776 and ratified on July 4, 1776. The Common Sense paved the way for the Declaration of Independence. Paine rejected the king, rather than Parliament, as the greatest enemy of American liberty. He hated the rigid class structure of Britain for smothering the hopes of common people without a noble title or...

...their permission. Can you imagine yourself in the Britain's shoes? The rebels esteemed leader George Washington even believed that the colonist were wrong for dumping the tea. The colonist should have paid their taxes. As a citizen it is your duty to help your government and pay your taxes when due. We need those taxes to pay the government for protecting and fighting for us during the French and Indian War. The Tea Act had reduced the tax and the people should have been happy. Instead this isn’t good enough for them. They are greedy self-serving people with no humanity at all. The colonist were paying half of what the people back in England were paying. In conclusion the Boston Tea Party was uncalled for and ill-behaved. The guilty colonists should have been punished by the Crown. The townspeople did the wrong thing, they should have stayed loyal to the King. This was not a simple protest this was treason of the highest order. They will cause the East India Company to go bankrupt. They ruined those peoples lives, taking away their jobs and income. ...

...Matthew 6: 1-4 6:1 “Be careful not to display your righteousness merely to be seen by people. Otherwise you have no reward with your Father in heaven. 2 Thus whenever you do charitable giving, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in synagogues and on streets so that people will praise them. I tell you the truth, they have their reward. 3 But when you do your giving, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your gift may be in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. 5 “Whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, because they love to pray while standing in synagogues and on street corners so that people can see them. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. 7 When you pray, do not babble repetitiously like the Gentiles, because they think that by their many words they will be heard. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 So pray this way: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored, 10 may your kingdom come, may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we ourselves have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 14 “For if you forgive others their sins, your heavenly Father...

...“white” activities: swimming, tennis, academic teams, etc. But why are these “white” activities? In this instance, they are simply because I called them so. There is no part of swimming, or of tennis, that is inherently Caucasian. So what do we do when we call these sports and clubs white? We lose sight of their purpose: entertainment and an opportunity to showcase skill. My TEDtalk is on the impact of racial association encouraging the perpetuation of stereotypes. Earlier this year, I was given the honor of serving as my high school’s representative on the school district’s annual Race Relations Forum. Our group was purposely assembled to represent a wide variety of races, genders, and economic backgrounds. The most pleasant part of the forum was that, in general, we all agreed on the topics presented. But as the audience continued to ask questions, I began to notice a trend. Every question we were asked presented issues of race, not issues of humanity. It appeared that every question had the same subtext: “How do you interpret the issues between white and black people?” These questions surprised me because I was fortunate enough to have been raised in a family that refuses to see race. Until...

...existence, for all the six days of creation. What is his creation? God created everything that is, seen and unseen. He created all plants, animals, minerals, bacteria, and at the head of all His creation was humanity. God created man in His image with all the capability of having some of the same characteristics as God. Humanity was set as the caretaker of all of God’s other creations. It is still humanity’s job to take care of the world today. Humanity: What is human nature? Humanity has a sinful nature. This sinful nature comes from the original sin during the fall. Because of the wickedness committed by Adam and Eve all generations following have suffered from a sinful nature. God did not create humans to have a sinful nature He created them perfect, but He gave humanity free will and commencing from that free will came iniquity. The same free will that resulted in a sinful nature can save you from damnation. What is human purpose? Humans were made to bring glory to God. Humans are to love and serve God. God doesn’t just want us to serve Him like slaves, He wants a personal relationship with us. God wants to be a father to His children rather than a master to His slaves. Like any child Christians should try and make their heavenly father proud. What is the root cause of human problems? The main reason for humanity’s problems is the sinful nature of all humans. The sinful nature pushes us away from God. God hates immorality and cannot look upon it. All the bad things that...
