In the book “Copper Sun,” by Sharon M. Draper, a multiple of characters are introduced that leave a lasting impression. Two of these characters are Amari and Polly, who have lost everything in their lives. Each girl is faced with many troubling situations and encounter difficult, but empowering, hardships in America. Each turn in the book helps to shape and lead the girls to where they are supposed to be. Amari and Polly find strength in each other’s arms and continue on through the physical, emotional, and psychological pain of their journey. Each girl possesses traits of bravery, strength, compassion, and hope towards their friends and each other which helps them to gain the one thing they’ve dreamed of, freedom. Amari’s journey begins when
