The FaceBook icon Cecelia Ahern once said, “home is not a place, it’s a feeling”. This quote is very relatable to a few of the characters in Sharyn McCrumb’s, She Walks These Hills. Families who have grown up in the Appalachians will always call the mountains their home. There is no way around disregarding your hometown or forgetting the impact it made on you. Where you come from shapes you for the rest of your life. Not just the area itself but the people you’ve met and memories you’ve made will forever affect you, your values, and opinions. She Walks These Hills shows the importance of the Appalachian value, love of place. Love of place is a powerful value that will eventually help the unable or less willing to find their way back.
