...Kids should have less homework so we would be able to do all of it. Most kids think we have too much homework therefore they don't do it. So kids should indeed have less homework and not because we are lazy but because we get a lot of homework from most classes while we still need to do our chores at home, get 8 or more hours of sleep and still wake up early for school to get more homework for that night. While needing to do homework, our parents still expect us to do our chores. In my household, my parents make me clean after everyone gets done eating and I also have to babysit my little brothers and my baby brother. It's already hard enough to just finish my homework so having to do chores after school everyday doesn't help....

...student has been getting too much homework to do. I think that this amount of homework should be reduced. One reason why I think that the amount of homework should be reduced is because if a student is getting too stressed doing their work, they will not perform that well in school or extracurricular activities. Also, If kids are too busy doing their work, they will not get much time to sleep.Lastly, if a child is getting more time to do a homework activity, they will slow down and turn in quality work, as they have more time for doing the...

...struggling with homework. Though some kids struggle with the topic, others struggle because there’s just too much to do. Many kids have busy lives, whether it be with sports, clubs, church activities. Homework with no educational value should not be on their to do lists. Students should get less homework because too much can cause a great deal of health problems and stress, and too much time is required to complete it. Homework can cause health issues and build stress. “A hundred years ago, you had medical doctors testifying that heavy loads of books were causing children’s spines to be bent,” says Brian Gill, a senior social scientist at the Rand Corporation. It’s not healthy for students...

...Why do teachers give homework and does it even help?”Ideally homework should be about taking something home, spending a few curious and interesting moments in which children might engage with parents, and then getting that project back to school — an organizational triumph," she says. "A nag-free activity could engage family time: Ask a parent about his or her own childhood. Interview siblings." Teachers give too much non effective homework. Margot Steinberg of White Plains, whose children are in the Ardsley district, said: ''The kids get so much homework, they're not getting something out of it. They're doing it to get it done.''If this were to happen in our school there would be a tremendous change and happier students. Homework causes students to...

...No Homework! I think that schools should not make their students have homework, because it causes health issues/stress, less time for other activities, and they don't have help or assistance. Kids should not have homework every night for a very long time after they had already been in schools for 7 hours or more. So these are some reasons why kids do not need to have a lot of homework after school every day monday-friday for many years. First, Kids do not have enough time for other things if they are always having to do their homework after school. According to Harris cooper kids should get 10 minutes of homework times their grade level so kids can do other things to. Harris cooper is the chairman of the “Battle against homework” at Duke university. One way this interferes with family/friend time. This makes kids not have as much friends if they can’t hang out with them.Kids have so much homework every day the are never out of their room and with their family until they have to go bed. And then the same thing repeats every night the entire school year. Also, kids go to their friends house and then at around 10 o'clock at night they have to do a lot of homework so they are tired the next day. Next, Homework is not even to improve academics so kids can’t be with their parents just to do something that doesn’t even make them smarter....

...Do you think schools shouldn’t have homework? Well a lot of kids and a handful of adults think schools should get rid of homework altogether. I believe schools should stop giving homework to students for these reasons: First homework causes health problems, and secondly takes important time away after school. The first reason is, homework causes health problems. For example, It causes stress, by family conflict. It also limits sleep, high level stress, and extreme weight loss. An example of extreme weight loss is, when kids are spending hours on homework and not having fun or exercising outside. Furthermore, believe it or not homework can even cause stress to teachers. According to, BBC NEWS | UK | Education | Teachers call for ban on homework...

...Should students have so much homework after school? Does it really affect a child’s health? Is it harmful? I strongly believe kids should have less homework because it may cause stress to students. It may also interrupt with a child’s quality time with family or friends. An over abundance of homework can also make life at home and in school a lot harder, because you are always concentrated on the next assignment you have to finish, rather than focusing on time with family and friends. Too much homework has also been proven to have damaging effects on the health of students. According to the article “Stanford research shows pitfalls of homework” The author Clifton B. Parker quotes the research of Denise Pope a senior lecturer at Stanford Graduate...

...Gelais 1 Mrs. Trouville English CP III 15 December 2015 Should Schools Be Done with Homework? Have you ever enjoyed a day of relaxation? Have you ever experienced the thrill of having a day just to goof off? Has homework kept you away from that? Kids hate homework. Some kids say that homework is just what they learned in class the same day and they are just repeating it. Why do students need to repeat what we did in class that day? Is it necessary? Some reasons why homework is not effective is that many teachers give too much homework, and often teachers do not coordinate the quantity given. Secondly, unnecessary assignments raise the stress level of the students. However, the main argument against homework is that most of it is just boring practice. Teachers give too much homework to kids and it’s not necessary. In an article written by Lance J. Falk it states that “kids have lives beyond school and schoolwork. About 65 percent of kids, ages of 6-13, play competitive sports. But, unfortunately, some of those kids quit playing the sport they love due to the fact that they have too much schoolwork to tackle during their evening” (Falk). If a student has three soccer practices a week, which consumes 2.5 hours of his Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons, how do you think he or she feels? He or she would obviously feel very tired, right? But now if that same student had two hours of homework three of the five days that he or she has school he or she would...

...Homework: Helpful or Harmful? Is homework harmful or helpful? In today’s education system, schools are preparing students for college by pressuring them to increase their test scores. Test scores seem to provide educators with a good standpoint of the student’s intelligence level. Therefore, educators have been ordering homework to be done since elementary school. A Countless number of students are being assigned a great amount of homework every day because educators think that it is essential and helpful. However, too much homework has seemed to negatively affect students in many ways. In recent studies, there has been a widespread call to realize the disadvantages of homework due to the strain it puts on students. Although homework may seem favorable because it seems to keep students busy and working, homework should not be considered the primary tool to improve students since homework medically affects students, is time consuming, and interferes with family life. Homework has medical affect on students since they are becoming sleep deprived as they struggle to complete a homework assignment that is due the next day. Studies show that students are now taking more risks due to excessive amounts of homework that cannot be completed efficiently in a given time. According to CNN Health’s Medical Assignment Manager Ann J. Curley, studies conducted show that more than two-thirds of American students report they are getting less than eight hours of sleep on school nights, which is...

...Too Much Homework? It's all over the news: kids are spending a lot of time on homework. And, according to some, it's way too much. With the current emphasis on high-stakes testing, educators are trying to do more with less, which can result in an overabundance of schoolwork outside of school. Some critics say there is no evidence to suggest that homework is helpful to student achievement; on the contrary, too much of it can overwhelm students and cause them to disengage. Others, however, claim that homework is necessary and helpful, designed so students can practice the concepts taught in class, build good study habits, and reflect on their own learning. As an eleventh grade student who is in advanced and ap classes, I think that homework is the cause of my depleting grades. Now, you’re probably going to think that I’m like any other kid in high school that hates homework and that to even spend another second reading this will be a complete waste of time, right?Even so, just hear me out because I have several reasons that might just change your mind. I have thousands of assignments every week; most of them homework assignments. As a result, I’m cascaded with homework every day, causing me to stay up until 11 o’clock at night more often than not. Obviously, this is a threat to my health as a developing teenager. It could stunt my growth, and result in fatigue and stress because everyone knows that no good sleep leads to no good grades. Even if I were...

...Book Review The Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Get Too Much of a Bad Thing by Alfie Kohn University of Montevallo EDF561: Evaluations in Education Susan Scott Alfie Kohn’s (2006) book, The Homework Myth: Why Our Kids Get Too Much of a Bad Thing, gave me food for thought. Kohn opposes homework of any kind in any form for any grade level. He explores each commonly given, pro-homework argument in an attempt to persuade his readers, both parents and teachers, of the uselessness and possibly detrimental effects of the long-standing educational tradition. The first claim Kohn (2006) makes is that our children are “missing out on their childhoods” (p. 3). His opinion is that children spend seven hours in school everyday; that should be enough. He argues that kids need more time to be kids. Such time would include family time, friend time, time spent in extracurricular activities such as sports, music and art lessons, and play groups for younger kids. I agree. Kids do need time to enjoy their childhood. It is the most carefree time of their lives, relatively speaking. Does that mean they should have no homework at all? I am not yet ready to agree completely with that attitude. “Does homework improve learning?” Kohn (2006, p. 25) asks. The most significant issue he raises, in an attempt to answer that question, is regarding the kind of homework about which we are talking. Assignments can range from useless, fill-in-the-blank worksheets to extended projects that...

...How TV Affects Your Child Television watching is becoming more prominent in America culture. Children are being plugged into the television at younger and younger ages. Each day after school, thousands of kids sit in front of their T.V. sets at their homes and kill their precious time watching T.V. programs when they should be active or doing homework, etc. Parents will want to get work done and the television is a very convenient “babysitter.” Parents do not have to pay the television to keep their children pre-occupied. However, too much television can be detrimental and I believe television viewing should be used in moderation or as a privilege. There are many reasons why parents should limit screen time for their children. One important reason is that watching a lot of television can lead to childhood obesity. Part of the problem is that the child is not moving when watching. When children spend their free time lying around watching TV, they don't get the exercise they need. It's hard to exercise in front of the TV set. The other part is all the food commercials aimed at kids. TV commercials advertise candy, soda, and sugary cereals, encouraging children to eat high-calorie junk food. Even if they don't get the food on the commercial, it will probably lead them to the kitchen, looking for a snack. Often, children eat junk food while watching TV and are unaware of how much they're overeating. Down the long run, childhood obesity can lead to numerous health problems...

...The discussion on homework has been a controversy for many years now. Susan Schwartz, a writer for the Montreal Gazette, wrote an article reviewing parents and teachers opinions on whether homework is necessary or not. In Schwartz opinion, she believes that homework is a necessary assets to a student's school experience. Many others do not share her opinion because they believe it is keeping their children from being kids. Schwartz states that homework allows students to gain a further understanding of the content they learn in class. Many teachers agree that homework allows them to see what students have a firm grip on. One of the teachers Schwartz questions stated that “homework is also a way for teachers to see where their students are...

...“Kids who are tired can't learn at their best, and sleep deprivation impairs learning, memory, and attention as much as it impairs health and overall well-being” (Start school later). Many kids and teens are sleep deprived because of the times they have to get up in the morning for school. With homework, sports, jobs, and other things kids have to get done at home before it’s time for them to go to bed it could be very challenging for them to get to bed at a normal time. Middle schools should start later in the morning because it is too early for kids to get up and get ready, students need to be more awake and focused in class and on school work, and it is hard for students to get to class on time when tired. It is too early for kids to...
