After reviewing the topics, two that I am considering are 'Should late term abortion be banned?' and 'Is solitary confinement a good method of punishment?' I have a strong opinion against late-term abortion. I feel that it is wrong and should be banned. I believe that all human life is valuable and should be protected, especially at a stage of fetal development when life outside of the mother could be viable, so I feel that it is a topic that I could really feel passionate writing about. The other topic of 'Is solitary confinement a good method of punishment,' I have an idea about what my research could uncover of it pointing to it leading to a lot of mental and physical issues and on the flip side of it being a necessary form of punishment

...first point out the fact that abortion is one of the most controversial issues in the United States. The progressive left stands strong on the argument that women deserve the sole right to decide on abortion. As for the conservative right they base their judgment of abortion on religious aspects than on women’s rights. Whether your stance on abortion is pro or anti it is a legal operation in the United States. In the year 1973 abortion laws were decided by the states. Most of the states banned legal abortion unless the woman’s life was at risk. The controversial case Roe v. Wade changed the outlook on abortion. “In that year, the U.S. Supreme Court decided the controversial case Roe v. Wade. The Roe decision acknowledged both a woman’s ‘fundamental right’ to terminate a pregnancy before fetal viability and the state’s legitimate interest in protecting both the women’s health and the ‘potential’ of the fetus. It prohibited states from banning abortion to protect the fetus before the third trimester of a pregnancy, and it ruled that even during that final trimester, a woman could obtain an abortion if she could prove that her life or health would be endangered by carrying the term”(Gordon, 214). This ruling gave woman the ability to make a decision of aborting a child based on their own rights and beliefs. As of 1973 to the present year of 2003 abortion is a legal procedure but is unfortunately looked upon by some, as murder. My standpoint on abortion is developed by both the progressive...

...States, abortion laws began to appear in the 1820s, forbidding abortion after the fourth month of pregnancy. Through the efforts primarily of physicians, the American Medical Association, and legislators, most abortions in the US had been outlawed by 1900. By 1965, all fifty states banned abortion, with some exceptions which varied by state: to save the life of the mother, in cases of rape or incest, or if the fetus was deformed. Groups like the National Abortion Rights Action League and the Clergy Consultation Service on Abortion worked to liberalize anti-abortion laws. The Supreme Court in 1973, in the case of Roe v. Wade, declared most existing state abortion laws unconstitutional. This decision ruled out any legislative interference in the first trimester of pregnancy and put limits on what restrictions could be passed on abortions in later stages of pregnancy. While many celebrated the decision, others, especially in the Roman Catholic Church and in theologically conservative Christian groups, opposed the change. "Pro-life" and "pro-choice" evolved as the most common self-chosen names of the two movements, one to outlaw most abortion and the other to eliminate most legislative restrictions on abortions. According to the Center for Disease control –CDC In 2009, 784,507 legal induced abortions were reported to CDC from 48 reporting areas. The abortion rate for 2009 was 15.1 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 years and the abortion ratio was 227 abortions per 1,000...

...Writing Feedback / | Abortion: Why it should be Illegal. ------------------------------------------------- Top of Form juliat cungThreads: 1 Posts: 3 |  Oct 25, 2009, 09:31pm   #1 | Abortion has been a controversial topic for as long as the idea has existed. People argue that it is the mother's body, the mother's choice. Others say that a life is a life, no matter how small. Do you really think that anyone has the right to murder an innocent's human being? I disagree. Here`s is why it should be banned; many will argue that abortion is wrong because it's taking a human life, no matter what stage of pregnancy it is in, it's very bad for the mother's health and the after math of an abortion could very well go the opposite of what they had envisioned. Banning abortion can be a big achievement but it can always be done if it's compulsory. No one in the world has the right to even think of murdering an innocent child. Just because a fetus may not have a complete eye or leg formed doesn't mean he or she isn't a human. Many people who are against death penalty are in favour of abortion. Abortion is one of the worst types of murder because it is the killing of a person who has not committed any sin. Those who practice abortion should receive the same penalty that they give the baby. A psychologist agrees that about 10% of the 1.6 million women who have had abortion experience severe emotional trauma. Some of the physical damage can result from an abortion- damaged cervix, perforated...

...have an abortion, she must consider her health, the baby’s help and her religious belief. Would you destroy your baby just because you are young or single or unable to take care of her or him? Is an unborn baby really even a person? Some people think abortion should be legal. These are some reasons abortion should be legal. Making abortion legal does not keep a woman form having abortion it just makes them safer. Another reason why it should be legal is if the woman may have health problems, psychological problems or financial difficulties that make caring for a child very difficult. The last reason why abortion should be legal is if the child is unwanted. Abortion is one of the most persistently controversial issues in American culture and politics today. Since the 1973 national legalization of abortion, competing groups have fought to either restrict or increase access to the procedure, leading to heated debates among political activists, religious organizations, state legislatures, and judges. This conflict is perhaps reflective of the nation’s ambivalence over abortion. While it is often depicted as a two-sided debate, the abortion controversy is actually quite multifaceted, involving complex speculation on biology, ethics, and constitutional rights. Those who identify themselves as prolife, for example, generally contend that abortion is wrong because it kills human life, which they believe begins at conception. However, some pro-lifers grant that abortion should be allowed...

Abortion Argumentative Essay

...English 101 9 Dec 2010 The End before the Beginning Is abortion murder? Should abortion be illegal? Abortion is something that is not overlooked, but not exactly given the proper attention it should have. Abortion causes a lot chaos today. Abortion is a process where the mother kills the fetus. Sometimes there are understandable reasons for these actions, but then some women feel they aren’t ready to be a mother. If abortion wasn’t an option then what would the women do? How could they get rid of the baby? Think about if your own mother felt the way you did. You would not have a chance to experience life. Even though the fetus is still developing, doesn’t it have a claim to life? Imagine living in a world where babies the size of your palm are laying there lifeless with blood everywhere. Everywhere you turn you see the cute little babies unmoving, not making a sound. If you’re imagining this I know you’re wondering how someone can be so cruel and do such a thing to such innocent little creatures. Now imagine if everyone who had a one night stand or a woman who thought she wasn’t ready to be a mother had an abortion. Instead of our population growing like it should, it would decrease due to the fact that people are dying everyday from natural causes. If everyone starts killing off babies will the world end faster than it should? Many think its three sides to abortion, but there can actually be only two sides. Those two sides are pro-choice, people believing it’s the mother’s...

Hellerstedt The purpose of this paper is to illustrate significant events that have aided in the evolution and adoption of abortion laws established in the United States. Despite the lengthy history of abortion laws and healthcare policies in our country, the subject remains to be a relevant debate topic in circulation today that deeply divides societal interests among pro-life or pro-choice activists. Most recently, the Supreme Court ruled on the Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt case that notably sparked one of the largest anti-abortion demonstrations in history. The hearing was held in response to the Texas House Bill 2 (HB2) signed into law in 2013, that led to the systematic closing of abortion...

Abortion

...Many believe abortion is murder, therefore many anti-abortion organizations take a stance and declare pro-life. Pro-Life organist’s believe that life exists three weeks after conception, while on the opposing side pro-choice feels that women should have the right to choose regardless of the circumstances. Today Roe vs Wade still ripples this nation and breeds many discussions pertaining to the matter. Abortion seems to be an emotional, but yet still a political topic for many; relationships are tarnished due to one’s personal opinion when asked pro-life or pro-choice. In an online article titled Roe v. Wade and Beyond, Peter Samuelson discussed “I think what happened in 1973 with Roe v. Wade is the Supreme Court just stopped a public discussion consensus on what America wants for abortion. I think over the last 34 years, 33 years that has continued to happen and that discussion is going on but it’s going on much slower” (Abortion Wars 1). Unfortunately, courts, clinics, and hospitals will continue to publicize abortion and though it will be many that disagree with abortion laws and declare it unjust, there will also be few that empathize with women that receive abortions and join the fight to protect them. Abortion has been sought after for many years to end unwanted abortions for a variety of reasons. In an article compiled by ProQuest Staff, Leading Issue Timelines contends “women used herbal preparations or other methods to induce miscarriages” (Abortion Timeline). ...

Pro-Choice As A Means Of Abortion

...Introduction Abortion is a medical procedure that ends one’s pregnancy and cause the death of the fetus. There are two types of people: those who are Pro-Life and those that are Pro-Choice. Someone who is Pro-Life believes abortion is murder and should be illegal; someone who is Pro-Choice believes the mother should have a choice whether or not to end their pregnancy. Abortion has been known for centuries, but has recently became one of the most argumentative topics in politics, and in everyday conversation. “It is considered indelicate to smile and talk about abortion at the same time. It’s a topic that usually accompanied by frown, finger pointing, yelling, snorts of disgust, and a healthy dose of profanity.” Reasoning Each woman has their...

Pro-Choice's Argument Against Abortion

...The writer believes the life of a child should not be terminated solely based on a mother experiencing an unwanted pregnancy. The second pro-choice argument is the idea that personhood is different from human life. Many pro-choice advocates distinguish between human life and personhood, and they believe that this distinction is important in the context of reproductive rights. Pro-choice advocates agree that a fetus is biologically human, as it has human DNA and is the offspring of a human parent. However, many pro-choice advocates argue that being biologically human is not the same as being a person, according to Planned Parenthood.org. I believe that since a fetus possesses human DNA, it should be classified as a human being. As we recognize individuals outside the room of human beings based on their DNA, we should give the same recognition to a fetus inside the womb. The third pro-choice...

Abortion

...English 103 11/15/2012 Abortion How would you feel if someone decided that you could never get a chance at life? What if you were never born? Imagine a nervous young female at a Doctor’s office about to make a decision that will not only change her life forever, but change the life of the child growing inside of her. People say they don’t want others making a decision about their lives but they are more than willing to make a choice about someone else’s life. No matter what your views are on the subject of abortion, you have to admit that abortions are just a display of selfishness. A child is a living being regardless of whether or not it has yet to be conceived. Someone’s financial circumstances, level of maturity, or any other factor, doesn’t not change the fact that the “thing” inside a woman’s womb is a living person. Abortion should be banned because of the effects it has psychologically, medically and socially. Abortion has become the most common procedure in unwanted pregnancies. Over 1.3 million abortions are done yearly in the USA. According to The Kaiser Family Foundation, “Approximately one-fifth (19%) of the 6.4 million pregnancies that occur in the U.S. end in abortion. About 19% of women having abortions in the U.S. are teens; 33% are between the ages of 20 and 24; and 48% are ages 25 and older” (1). One can agree that murdering innocent people is wrong. However, legalizing abortion gives someone the right to end...

Aboortion

...Pro-Abortion There are many women in the world that decide to have abortions for their own personal reasons or reasons that may affect the unborn child’s life. We live in a society of unwanted pregnancies and where people are either Pro-life (against abortion) or Pro-choice (for abortion). I consider myself Pro-choice and believe that abortion should not be controlled by the government. Pro-choice groups believe that woman should be free to follow their own ethical beliefs concerning the termination or the continuation of a pregnancy (Wikipedia). Many recognize that their different beliefs about abortion access and that the state should not attempt to enforce a common belief system on all pregnant women who decide to terminate their pregnancies. The legalization of Abortion started in 1973 with the Roe vs. Wade case. This made abortion legal in all 50 states. Abortion is safe because we know the risks involved in an abortion are very low relative to other surgical procedures, and the risk of death from an abortion is one-tenth that of childbirth (Abortion Access). There are many different reasons that people fight for and against Abortions. You have those whom think that terminating a pregnancy is murder and the parent and doctor are committing the crimes. The situations where woman should have the right to abortion are where they have been raped, their health or life is at risk, contraception was used but...

Abortion, More Harm Than Good

...Finnigan 1 Abortion, More Harm Than Good Life, it is the most precious things on this planet. It starts from conception and goes on forever. Even though you may not physically be walking on this planet your life will always be remembered by someone as you leave this planet. Then there are those few babies that never get to make a difference in someone’s life or get to become the next president. Those few babies that never even get the chance to leave their mother’s womb or better yet, they don’t even get a chance to develop. Abortion, it causes more harm than good and should be illegal. It has been widely debated over when life truly begins whether it starts at conception or when a baby first sees the light of day as it comes into this world. In worldnetdaily.com staff writer Jon E. Dougherty’s article, Life begins at Conception, he states “Life begins at conception, not birth. Birth is simply one stage of ongoing human development…Life is as real and as tangible as death; consequently, we humans are "viable" the moment we are created in the womb. Barring death by natural causes, everyone has the potential to eventually become a senior citizen someday — as long as they aren't butchered before birth. In fact, some have said we begin to die the moment we are conceived because our lives always reach that inevitable conclusion. The "not viable life" excuse doesn't hold up because, if all life is not "viable" life, then what is the purpose of having an abortion? If these human...

Abortion

...Abortion Ethics and Abortion Since 1973 when the U.S. Supreme Court made the decision that abortion was legal, abortion has been one of the most controversial ethical issues in our society. For many years there have been a lot of debates about whether it is morally and ethically right to have abortions. No one takes the issue of abortion lightly due to the fact that there are so many people with different perspectives on abortion and how it should be handled. Just because individuals see abortion one way others see it another. Religion, definition of abortion, pro-choice, pro-life, moral personhood, rape, and rights are things that will be discussed. Abortion is defined as the termination of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo, resulting in or caused by its death (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abortion). An abortion that is terminated on the sole fact that it becomes a threat to the pregnant female is referred to as a therapeutic abortion. An elective abortion is a term used for any other kind of abortion not related to health reasons. Most people relate a miscarriage as a form of abortion, but for myself I don’t really see how a miscarriage is related. The pregnant female doesn’t have a choice in a miscarriage, but only has a choice in an induced abortion or any type. Abortion can be traced back as to ancient times. Evidence suggests that abortions were taking place in a number of different ways, from herbs to abdominal pressure....
