Should teens have to wait to get their license when you turn eighteen ? More than eighty percent of teen deaths are caused by car accidents. If teens were to wait to get their license when they turn eighteen it could lower the percentage of deaths by ten percent. The reason why teens should wait is because at the age of sixteen their frontal lobe isn't completely developed, you are also most likely to make better decisions, most importantly you have more experience by the time you turn eighteen.

Teens frontal lobe isn't fully developed till they are about twenty years old. The reason why it is better to wait until teens turn eighteen is because your frontal lobe is more developed than if teens were sixteen. Teens frontal lobe involves

Essay Against Lowering The Drinking Age

...minimum legal drinking age (MLDA) actually affects more things than people think. Think about how often somebody drinks alcohol to have fun, relax, enjoy a family gathering etc…. With the drinking age being twenty-one in the United States it makes underage teens and young adults want to drink even more. Why someone might ask. One reason is that it gives teens a sense of adulthood. When teens take a drink of that alcohol it gives them that grown up feeling. Just the fact you have twenty-one makes it so urging for teens and young adults. The drinking age should be lowered to eighteen in the United States. If you take a look at driving under the influence rates (DUI) in the United States and compare them to countries with the drinking age eighteen the United States is significantly higher. Why is that? In almost every other country the drinking age is lower than twenty-one found from...

The Legal Drinking Age in the United States

...The Legal Drinking Age in the United States The legal drinking age in the United States has been an ongoing issue for many years. Some believe it should be lowered to eighteen, as it was prior to The National Minimum Drinking Age Act that was passed on July 17th, 1984, and some believe it should stay at twentyone. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act made it impossible or persons under the age of twentyone to purchase alcohol. This Act did not ban those under the age to consume alcohol. There were only seven states, along with Washington D.C.; that put a complete ban on alcohol to be bought or consumed under twentyone. Those other six states are Alabama, Indiana, Kansas, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Vermont. As the consumption laws vary from state to state, some allow the consumption of alcohol under the supervision and consent of parents and others do not. Some states do not even have a law of consumption at all, which proves a small portion of my point. The legal drinking age in the United States should be lowered from twentyone to eighteen because at this age one is considered an adult, there would be a lower risk of underage drinking and if one can serve in the military then they shall be able to The first point is the fact that in the United States, one is considered a legal adult. Therefore, the purchasing of lottery tickets, scratch tickets and tobacco products is now legal. Tobacco products cause heart disease,...

Old Enough to Die, Just Not Enough to Drink

...Old Enough to Die, Just Not Enough to Drink John Hartman SOC 120 Instructor: Getachew Wakgira October 28, 2013 When a person turns eighteen years old in our society we consider them an adult and they are no longer recognized as a juvenile. They are responsible for themselves in the eyes of the law and subject to the same laws as all other adults. They can vote legally or sign contracts and even join the military as a matter of fact they can do anything any other adult can do except for drinking alcohol. Because of the high death rate associated with alcohol among people in the age range of sixteen to twenty year olds, lawmakers began discussing adjusting the minimum age. The idea was not welcomed by everybody however, "It just doesn't sit right with me that people [at the age of 18] have the right to do everything else, including serve their country, but don't have the right to consume alcohol," state Rep. Richard Marron said. "It's a form of age discrimination."( Chiappetta, A. 2005.) Is it fair that they can be an adult, fighting for our country but not be able to drink like one? In this paper I give my personal experience and view both sides of the issues in the subject of soldiers drinking alcohol under the age of twenty one. Either way that you look at it, the current laws prevent under age drinking of alcohol in the military as a standard rule. In the early eighties though it was not the same as it is now and the laws...

Leadership Essay

...Joshua Lynn Professor Howard ENG-123 13 Jun 2015 Lowering the Drinking Age The drinking age in America needs to be changed to align our cultural values with the rest of the worlds. In America there is no real reason to support the fact that we need to wait until the age of 21 to drink. To think that 21 is the age when everyone is mature enough to drink is just speculation. At 18 you are allowed to buy tobacco and even tattoo yourself. So how could lawmakers come to the decision that we need to wait until 21 in order to consume a beer? The main argument against keeping the drinking age at 21 is the fact that it may cause problems in the development in the frontal lobes of the brain. There is only minimal supporting evidence that actually shows any problems in normal drinking habits. Many people feel that the drinking age that is set in place is biased and a form of prohibition to the people who are 18 to 20. We need to stand up to lawmakers in the government and ensure that the laws that are emplaced to protect and allow for “adults” to make their own decisions. The fact that the brain may not be fully developed until the age of 21, the drinking age should be lowered because you are considered an adult at 18 and can die for your country and the primary reason states are refusing to change the law is for fear of losing federal funding for roads from the government. There is controversy surrounding the primary argument against lower the drinking age which is the...

Teenage Pregnancy

...focuses on sexual and reproductive health research, policy analysis, and public education, teenage pregnancy has adverse consequences for the parents, the child, and society. Pregnant teens are less likely to complete high school and attend college than teenagers who avoid pregnancy. Many teenage parents live below the poverty level and rely on welfare. The children of teenage parents receive inadequate medical care, have more problems in school, and spend more time in prison than children of adult parents. The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (NCPTP) claims that teenage childbearing costs society about $6.9 billion annually; this estimate includes welfare and food stamp benefits, medical care expenses, lost tax revenue (teenage childbearing affects the parents’ work patterns), incarceration expenses, and foster care. In an effort to reduce teenage pregnancy and the problems associated with it, policymakers have recently focused on what causes the widespread poverty and welfare dependence that teen moms experience and have attempted to devise solutions to these problems. Some social critics argue that because pregnancy limits a teenager’s opportunities for education and well-paying jobs, many are forced to accept welfare to support themselves and their children. Only 64 percent of teen moms graduate from high school or earn a general education diploma within two years after they would have graduated compared with 94 percent of teenage girls who do not give birth. This...

Underage Drinking

...amount of teenagers experiencing the usage of alcohol. Even though it is said to be favorable, too much consumption has led to negative result and side effects. It is apparent that teenage alcohol abuses are basic problems that need to be taken up in society by our leaders, advisers and as well as the parents. Many people ask this question everyday, “Why do teenagers take prescription drugs?” Well most of the time teens wrongly believe that these drugs are more safe than regular drugs mainly because they are accessible to them from home or from friends. Breaking away from reality and being bored are the main reasons that teenagers abuse drugs. Peer pressure to continue friendships and relationships are also reasons that teenagers experiment with drugs. Teenagers also turn to drugs to cope. The stress of work, school, grades, sports, and making their parents proud is difficult for most teens to balance. On top of the day-to-day pressures, adolescent growth brings a huge collection of emotions and moods that can be hard to get through, as a result teenagers may turn to drugs...

Drug Abuse

...while drunk or under the influence of drugs is an even bigger problem that shouldn’t be taken lightly. Abusing either one of these substances can lead to the death of you or the death of someone else or even cause a major change in their life like Jacqueline’s story, her whole life has been changed because of another person’s ignorance and carelessness. Therefore, you should know the facts about drug and alcohol abuse before you do something you may regret for the rest of your life. According TO NIDA FOR TEENS: THE SCIENCE BEHIND DRUG ABUSE, drugs are chemicals or substances that change the way our bodies work. Drugs find their way into your bloodstream, whether you ingest, inhale or inject them, they are then transported to parts of your brain. Weighing about three pounds, the brain is made of many parts that all work together as a team. Each part of your brain has a job to do. When drugs enter your brain, they can interrupt the work and actually change the way your brain performs its jobs. These changes in the brain are what lead to compulsive drug use, the hallmark of addiction. Alby, an eighteen year old teen who was residing in a maximum-security jail, ended up in jail because he began dealing drugs. HEADS UP: REAL NEWS ABOUT DRUGS AND YOUR BODY, recorded that it all started one summer day on a street corner in Yonkers, New York, when Alby was thirteen. Comparing American Culture

...meaning of virginity loss, the sources of information about virginity loss, and their own personal sexual history. Results showed that movies were the top source of information and were mentioned on average significantly higher than other versions of media. Twenty-eight people mentioned movies by name such as Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, The breakfast club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and American Pie. Nineteen people mentioned magazines, sixteen people mentioned pornographic magazines and videos, fifteen people mentioned television shows, and thirteen people mentioned books. Carpenter found a reoccurring theme throughout her study. She noticed while analyzing the participants responses that nineteen viewed virginity loss as a gift one should give only to a loving partner, nineteen viewed it as a stigma that they were ashamed of and wanted to rid, and nineteen viewed it as just a stage in the process of growing up. Another recurring theme was that women tended to think of virginity loss as a gift more than men. While on the contrary, men tended to view virginity loss as a stigma. Twenty-nine year old Dan Levy states, “ There was the movie Porky’s that probably came out when I was 13 and that definitely talked about, you know, virginity. One of the nerdy characters on there, they kept calling a virgin. So that might have been a very concrete way for me to get what virginity was...That it was a bad thing.” This statement was intriguing because it confirmed Carpenters theme that...

Anti- Abortion Term Paper

...Anti-Abortion Term Paper Having a child is often looked at as a wonderful experience containing endless rewards, but not everyone believes this. More females are getting this procedure done called an abortion now more than ever. This is where the pregnancy can/will be ended. Many women that look into abortion are not ready to support and raise a baby and see this as a way out, though someone can have empathy when a woman becomes unexpectedly pregnant, and having an abortion performed is not the right answer. Abortion became legal because of Supreme Court cases of Doe vs. Boston, and Roe vs. Wade. On average, there are 4,000 babies are murdered by abortions daily, which amounts to 1.4 million babies a year (Bilmore,1). People are unaware of what goes along with receiving an abortion. In the first trimester, the mother must go to a special clinic for an abortion. A doctor will then do a complete exam on the mother to see how far along the pregnancy is. The woman is given a form of local anesthetic following that, an instrument, called the dilator, dilates the cervix. A cannula, which will be connected to a suction machine, is moved around the uterine walls which then removes the fetus and uterine lining. When a woman completes the first trimester she then starts the second trimester of pregnancy, month four to month 6 of pregnancy, the abortion procedure can be the same as a first trimester abortion. The difference is the cervix must be dilated more which is known as Dilation...

They also start rumors and take their friends girlfriend or boyfriend and have them cheat on their friend.
