People incline to endorse what the authority acclaims. But, is the authority always right? The example of Aristotle tells us no. Aristotle, the most erudite person at the time, was proved to be wrong by Bruno even though his theory had been regarded as a universal truth. Thus, questioning the authority promotes the development of science. Nevertheless, critical thinking should be applied to all aspects of life including education, business and especially politics. Katniss Everdeen and Martin Luther King are two compelling figures in challenging the authorities and advocating human rights in political aspects. Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist in the Hunger Game trilogy, acted as a revolutionary figure against the Capital. After volunteering for her sister to attend the annual gladiator match called the Hunger Game, Katniss enters the…show more content… Unlike Katniss’s violent rebellion, King, a leader of the African-American Civil Rights Movement, urged to use non-violent protest to gain equal treatment for African-Americans in public accommodations and voting systems. King decided to devote himself into advocating human rights when he heard of the news that Rosa Parks was imprisoned since she refused to give seat to a white man. Both Parks and King realized the inequality and discrimination in the segregated seating on public buses. In order to outlaw the law, King organized the Bus Boycott Movement and finally gained the Supreme Court’s revision after enduring 381 days of attacks and harassment. If King had never throw doubts and just muted in front of the segregation, the Bus Boycott Movement would have lacked a strong leader. By taking a stand in the Civil Rights Movement, King not only improved the equality of African-American by outlawing segregation, but also united others African-Americans and even whites to stand together with
