Metodología Six Sigma
Muchos nos hemos preguntado cómo funciona la metodología Six Sigma, o tal vez nos hemos preguntado cómo es posible que lleguen a ser tan pocos errores por tanta cantidad de producción, o será una tecnología como Six Sigma fácil de implementar… Para empezar es necesario conocer el significado de lo que es esta metodología, conocer cuáles son sus objetivos y metas y aprender porque es tan valiosa esta herramienta para nuestras industrias. En primer lugar la metodología Six Sigma, es una herramienta que se basa en conocimientos y procedimientos como el análisis para desarrollar mejoras y de esta forma evitar que se presente la variabilidad. Utiliza herramientas que le facilitan la obtención de datos así como herramientas estadísticas para la caracterización y el estudio de los procesos. Esta ideología fue iniciada en Japón, primariamente por la marca Motorola y es una evolución de otras herramientas que buscaban la mejora de la calidad de sus servicios. Si hablamos de los beneficios que esta metodología nos puede brindar son muchos, pero principalmente podemos decir que busca reducir o eliminar los defectos, fallas o errores en la entrega de un producto o servicio al cliente. Su principal meta de seis sigma es llegar a un máximo de 3,4 defectos por millón de sucesos, eventos u oportunidades (DPMO). Y uno de sus beneficios es que mejora la rentabilidad y la productividad. Para desarrollar esta metodología es necesaria la efectuación de varios pasos y todo el proceso de llegar a la meta final de los 3,4 defectos por millón podría tardar años e incluso podría ser una meta difícil de alcanzar. En resumen sus pasos son: definir el problema o el defecto, medir y recopilar datos, analizar los datos, mejorar y controlar el proceso. Luego sus resultados se clasifican dependiendo de su nivel de sigma, entre mas sigmas se posean menor es la ocurrencia de anomalías o defectos, se busca obtener el mayor numero de sigmas para llegar a un punto de perfección, o cero errores, estableciendo un clima ideal.
En conclusión, (Anthony y Anthony. 2009) los esfuerzos de esta metodología se enfocan directamente a mejorar lo que es verdaderamente importante para el cliente, incluso en productos conformados por varias dimensiones, Seis Sigma solo mejorará aquellas que puedan considerarse críticas para la calidad para no desperdiciar esfuerzos. Así como se mostro esta metodología trae grandes beneficios para las empresas ya por sus objetivos busca que los errores sean mínimos y que siempre exista un control estadístico sobre todo lo que ocurre para que de esta forma se pueda continuar controlando todo el proceso. * Definir el problema o el defecto * Medir y recopilar datos * Analizar datos * Mejorar * Controlar
Es una metodología de mejora de procesos, cuya función principal es la reducción de la variabilidad de los estos procesos.
Busca reducir o eliminar los defectos, fallas o errores en la entrega de un producto o servicio al cliente.
La principal meta de seis sigma es llegar a un máximo de 3,4 defectos por millón de sucesos, eventos u oportunidades (DPMO)
Seis sigma utiliza herramientas estadísticas para la caracterización y el estudio de los procesos.
Uno de sus beneficios es que mejora la rentabilidad y la productividad.
Se clasifican dependiendo de su nivel de sigma, entre mas sigmas se posean menor es la ocurrencia de anomalías o defectos, se busca obtener el mayor numero de sigmas para llegar a un punto de perfección, o cero errores, estableciendo un clima ideal.

It started in the 1980s at Motorola; then, organizations such as GE, Allied Signal, and Seagate worked with the initiative during the 1990s and made it the most successful business initiative of the era. Key to the Six Sigma methodology of the 1990s is a five- step process—Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC). By systematically applying these steps (with the appropriate tools), practitioners of this approach have been able to save substantial dollars. The basis of Six Sigma is measuring a process in terms of defects. The statistical concept of six sigma means our processes are working nearly perfectly, delivering only 3.4 defects per million opportunities (DPMO). Sigma (the Greek letter σ) is a statistical term that measures standard deviation. In the context of management, it’s used to measure defects in the outputs of a process and show how far the process deviates from perfection. A one-sigma process produces 691462.5 defects per million opportunities, which translates to a percentage of satisfactory outputs of only 30.854%. That’s obviously really poor perform- ance.
