...The aim of this essay is to evaluate my mentoring experiences. It will also discuss skills that I have developed and how that has impacted on my professional development. I intend to provide an action plan for my development of knowledge and skills as a mentor. I have worked within a large primary school for ten years and probably for about the last five years have been mentoring more inexperienced teachers in an informal capacity. Murray (2001) in www.ttrb.ac.uk website defines this kind of mentoring as: “The deliberate pairing of a more skilled or experienced person with someone with less skill or experience with a mutually agreed goal of having the less skilled person grow and develop specific competences.” (pg Xiii) I have enjoyed this kind of informal mentoring and have gained much from working with different colleagues, as each NQT brings something different as part of their personality and experiences. More recently and more formally I have mentored a final placement PGCE student and this academic school year, who I am basing this portfolio on, an NQT student and a first year PGCE student. Both of which have been totally different mentoring and coaching experiences especially with mentees being at different stages of their career. A number of writers/researchers hold the debate over the definition of coaching and mentoring. With the NQT student I feel I have taken on more of a coaching role for example Whitmore...

...Self-Awareness In the Self-Awareness assessment, I scored 54, placing me in the second quartile and above the mean of 51.47. While this score indicated that I have a higher level of self-awareness than the average business school students in the comparison group, it also meant that I have room for improvement. Out of the areas assessed (self-disclosure, openness to feedback awareness of own values, emotional intelligence, change orientation and core self-evaluation), my strongest areas were awareness of my own value system and emotions while my weakest areas laid with unwillingness to seek information from others for self-improvement and getting defensive in the face of negative feedback. Additionally, the assessment pointed out that my awareness of personal standards was lacking. My change orientation was another area that appeared weaker (more externally than internally oriented) in comparison to my overall performance. In the Emotional Intelligence assessment, my score was 105. Though this score landed me in the top quartile in terms of the ability to be aware, in control and diagnose emotions in self and others, there were a couple of items that suggested that I could further improve my emotional intelligence. An item in the emotional awareness part of the assessment suggested that in interactions with others I might either be unaware of my own negative emotional reactions or unwilling to seek compensation in light of those reactions. Knowing myself, I believe the second...

...objectives? (15 marks) A workforce plan is a plan of action that results from the process of workforce planning and corporate objectives are targets that must be achieved in order to meet the stated aims of the business. The corporate objective of Cameco is for their business to grow and I do believe that workforce planning has enabled Cameco to achieve its corporate objectives as firstly, a workforce plan will assess the current workforce which means it will look at the numbers of workers needed for Cameco. Cameco’s corporate objective is to grow and therefore they will need a lot of employees to work for them to make more uranium for the business to grow. A workforce plan will assess how many workers Cameco will need to employ and therefore it enables Cameco to achieve its corporate objective. Also, a workforce plan will look at the skills in which workers will need to be employed by Cameco. Cameco require highly skilled workers to as to produce uranium is an extremely difficult task and therefore the potential employees who can do this are very few and a workforce plan will identify the skills which the workers need and then Cameco can search for employees with these skills. This means the workforce plan enables Cameco to achieve its corporate objectives as the business can grow with more employees who are highly skilled and can do the job correctly. A workforce plan will also look at timing of the job. This means that the workforce plan will identify when employees will start...

...second step is "Analyzing and Evaluating the Environments" which is the process to planning that allows the reality of the resources available within the work environment to become known so that the limitations become known as well. This step is very important and if one was to archive and create some form of database or collective data source on what is readily at hand that will and can be applied to the "plan" which could be physical resources needed for production, actual employee numbers, types of employees and their special skills, infrastructure in place and any aspect that may be possibly become an asset or liability. Simply knowing all surroundings and creating a proper catalog readily available for management and others of leadership would be a extremely useful resource in pushing forward towards a goal with correct knowledge of what the current values of any situation may be. The third step is "Identifying the Alternatives" which can be understood as Plan B or any other number of alternative plans in case everything does not go quite as planned and the current plan is...

...change ▪ increasing efficiency ▪ increasing transparency Issues to consider: “culture and behavior” ▪ Change begins before final aim is identified or sponsor identified (e.g. lost of contract) ▪ Emotional reactions to changes are difficult to plan and time should be given to manage those reactions effectively. Emotional reactions maybe caused by: 1. Company goal vs group goals or individual goals and reactions are not easy to plan 2. Effect of the change on the private sphere of individuals (e.g. relocation). Time should be given to adjust to the changes or appropriate financial support when applicable ▪ Diverse background/work conditions/culture require different planning and communication strategies ▪ Flexible and critical tasks of the change have to be identified, reviewed and changed when possible How to ensure a smooth transition ▪ Meet with senior staff involved in the change to discuss all aspects of it to try to ensure nothing is left unconsidered and therefore unplanned for. ▪ Ensure all individuals involved are clear about their roles in the change; roles should be directly related to their skill set where applicable. ▪ Allow enough time for each stage of the transition and build in buffer zones for things that may be out of your control. ▪ Ensure individuals involved have all the information required...

...Business Strategy is a well-articulated vision that provides goals that needs to be achieved, the objective behind the goals, a roadmap of various stages and finally the various steps to achieve the goal. In my opinion, Organizational and IS Strategy are the left and right hands of Business Strategy. They are the main tools to accomplish the vision derived during business strategy. Any change in the business requires necessary changes in others in order to achieve a goal. Business Strategy can be defined as a plan that company opts for which includes the selection and application of resources in order to accomplish a competitive advantage. Organizational Strategy defines the organization structure within the company and suggests necessary changes to form a successful team. It is important the company understands the gap between the current and desired state. Some of the essential factors that are considered while developing the organizational strategy are - new skills that are required by the company, talent management practices required to create high performing team and the culture that the company practices. Information Strategy on the other hand focusses on developing the right information technology architecture, selection of right software applications and hardware to support the business strategy. None out of the three strategies can work in solo. They complement each other, in which business strategy drives the other two. I would like to share one of the most recent...

...I. BACKGROUND OF THE CASE In the early 1980’s, the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) and A. Soriano Corporation (ANSCOR) Group of Companies, under the leadership of Andres Soriano Jr. addressed a long felt need for an effective formal planning system for the two companies. According to Soriano, the companies had developed their budgeting and long-ranged planning systems several years earlier but, despite the many advantages these gave them, they still were not satisfied with their ability to respond to the rapid changes in the environment around them. They, therefore, searched for a process that would enable them to upgrade their planning capability. SMC and the ANSCOR Group, thus, sought professional advice from a team of experts on strategic planning. The team was headed by Dr. Peter Lorange, then professor at the Wharton School and consultant on strategic planning to the two companies. Soriano expressed his great satisfaction with the approach to strategic planning developed by Dr. Peter Lorange and his team. In November 1982, Dr.Lorange addressed a joint dinner-meeting of SMC and the ANSCOR Group and shared his insights on the implementation of strategic planning of the two companies. Following are excerpts from an article prepared by Lorange based on his address during the meeting as well on as the major issues raised during the lively open-forum discussion. II. MAIN PROBLEM Problems: a. The planning process may have been time consuming and involved more work...

...expand on, “Having great communication skills and time management.” I am really terrible at time management and would like to get things done in a scheduled fashion, but I can admit I lack this trait in my personality. In my paper I would like present how communication and time management can help improve a worker under pressure. My message would say, “Have a plan, use a planner, and execute these plans with good communication!” My message clearly describes I need an organizer and an alarm clock to make sure that I am on time with my projects. I clearly did not do my discussion post on week one so I have to do this from beginning and explain my plans on my project. Step 2-3 The intended audience I chose for this message is college students who have a busy schedule and have 1-2 jobs or full time jobs. The typography I would like to showcase would be Display Type. In the book it states that is employed to flag and entice readers, deliver information quickly, and provide short bits of information efficiently (Ryan, 2012). The reason why I would like to go this route is because it shows a plain simple message for time managing. It can benefit readers in understanding the importance of time how valuable time management is an asset to our busy schedule. I wanted to use Microsoft Power Point to show my visual of how effective time managing can help improve our lives. I will show steps of how time management works and introduce skills and effective planning can help better...

...Career Plan Building Activities Management 521 January 14, 2013 Steve Wernick Career Plan Building Activities Discuss the ways in which understanding your personal competencies will help you to become a better communicator and manager. A person’s competency in general forms part of the way he or she operates in a working environment. A manager with a good working knowledge of his or her own competencies understands their strengths and weaknesses. A manager of this caliber knows that understand his or her own strengths and weaknesses will communicate a better working relationship with his or subordinates. A good manager has the skills to work as a team, plan strategically, and has developed organizational skills. Good managers are leader and know how to apply his or her competencies in any professional setting thereby leading by example. How might you need to change your communication techniques to work with the different functioning areas of your business? The four functional areas of business are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Most successful projects began with a manager and a vision to accomplish a particular project successfully. The project manager begins with a plan. A plan is a roadmap to follow to achieve mission accomplishment. Organization of the project spells out who, what, and how a project is to be accomplished as well as the sequence of events, and who is responsible for what. Leading involve previously designated...
